I went Hibbert over Ajinca, but only because I remember that time I wished for Saer Sene.

Sigh
This is very tough. I like Jordan here but I fear that we will need to make a decision on extending him and paying him before we know what he can do (see O’Bryant, Patrick and Milicic, Darko). On the other hand imagine pairing his athleticism with Spencer Hawes.
I like Hibbert and Chalmers, not at #12 but this is the #15 pick. And I’m still waiting for a big man to come over from Europe that can dominate defensively underneath, so I’m not ready to take Ajinca here.
With the 15th pick of the StR draft board, section214 selects DeAndre Jordan, Center, Texas A&M.

I have to call myself out
on the statement regarding European players that can play defense underneath. Two words – Andris Biedrins.

My Inner Ramblings
Let me work this out: The Kings need a PG or a PF most of all. Hibbert is a 7’2” center. I like Hibbert and the Kings do need a backup at center when Miller retires or is traded so he is a decent choice but not for PF or PG. DeAndre Jordan is an unproven freshman that has good height and length also at the center position. So again, a nice backup to Spencer unless he can play the PF or flat out beats him for the starting role in the next few years. Brandon Rush is a guard/forward that has a sweet shooting stroke but not much else. He is a smart player though and could become similar to Garcia or Salmons with a good shot. Still, the Kings DO have Garcia and Salmons so don’t really need Rush who really isn’t even close to being a lock to be as good as Garcia or Salmons. Alexis Ajinca (another center) is a more unknown prospect. He would come to the Kings not ready to play many minutes. He still has some maturing to do physically at 7’1” and only 220 lbs. He is more of a project than Jordan would be or Spencer was last year. I don’t know if I want that for the Kings. Ryan Anderson? Well let’s see. He is a PF. Good. He is 6’11”. Good. He averaged 12 rebounds and 25.7 points per 40 minutes in the Pac-10. Great. He shot over 40% from 3-pt range. Very good. Yah. I Iike. He is not a banger but neither is anybody else listed so far. Plus, he is a Cal. player! Serge Ibaka is a freakish athlete. Great athleticism and length. Only 6’10” at center but is quick enough to play the PF. Like Ajinca, he is also a bit raw so he would also be a project. He grabbed 12.7 boards per 40 minutes so at least he can rebound. Mario Chalmers. Well, he is the only PG on the list. He seems to be moving up on almost all the mock drafts thanks to his solid workouts. He played more of the off guard role in college for the past couple seasons but still averaged nearly six assists per 40 minutes. Not bad. He seems to have the potential to be a solid pro. Maybe not a star, but at this far down (15th pick) he is not too much of a gamble.
I have to go with Ryan Anderson out of this group. Mario Chalmers second. They both have the most potential to come in and impact the Kings RIGHT NOW at the positions the KIngs are in dire need to improve on. Serge and Ajinca are projects that could blossom in a few seasons but are both thin centers. Jordan has great upside but may need a season or two to adjust to the NBA and might not be able to fill the PF role relegating him to backup to Hawes. Hibbert could come in and play right away and would be a good asset on the defensive end. How high is his potential though? Could he be a Motumbo type? I have my doubts. Brandon Rush plays a position the Kings are deep in right now and his upside is not that high. No for the Kings.

I Will Add
I do think that Jordan has the most potential to be a star in the future. I just fear taking a freshman center that is unproven.

Nice analysis. I don’t why I’m worried about Anderson’s rebounding at the NBA level … but I am.

If...
Jordan develops I think that he could play alongside Hawes. Sometimes Hawes in the high post, sometimes Hawes isolated in the low post. Jordan would be more of a Marcus Camby or Tyson Chandler type presence.
Again, huge “IF.” By the way, dalt, nice ramblings.

Good points
I actually share both your worries and “ifs”. I too don’t know if Anderson will be able to rebound like he did in college. Actually, probably not. I don’t actually think he is the savior at PF anyway but would FOR SURE be an improvement over Moore on the offensive end and would really stretch out the defense. Think of this: Beno, Martin, Artest and Anderson all on the 3-pt arc with Spencer working in the post. Who are you going to leave to double team Spence?? Leave any of the 4 open you got a 35-40% 3-pt shooter wide open. Ryan is also a decent passer. As far as Jordan goes, I also think he can become a Chandler type player. Maybe even better. My concern is just that. The big IF. At 15 with Chalmers and Anderson on the board, I think I would take my chance on them first. Plus, wouldn’t it be fun to hear the announcer say “Mr. An-der-son” when he scores a basket??

Chalmers
I’m not a huge fan of just taking the most “NBA-ready” player, but I am a big fan of proven college players from solid programs. Call me crazy, but I think that guys who win at the college level will also become winners at higher levels. Plenty of evidence both for and against this, so no need to overanalyze.
Basically, I like a guy who is a solid contributor on a solid program for several years as opposed to a guy like Hibbert (the more I’ve seen of him, the less impressed I am) or an unproven “potential” guy (such as Jordan or Ajinca).

Suggestion
For the next two selections (16th and 17th) please add Chris Douglas-Roberts, Jason Thompson, Kosta Koufos, JaVale McGee, JJ Hickson and Nicolas Batum to the list of choices if possible. If not all of them, then at least the first three. Thanks!

Excitement - Potential!!
I do think the Kings need both of those desperately. Something for the team, the town to look forward to.
At #12 you’re not really hoping for too much next year – except hope. Hawes was I think a good, safe pick and it looks like it’ll pay off.
But we need someone who’ll occasionally make us go ” Wow! ” “I can’t wait to see more!” ” The future is bright!” ect…
So this time – I’m against safe and all for outragious athletic potential.

I thought Hawes was a potential pick than a safe pick. Geoff obviously had a vision for the future with both of these guys. I expect Petrie to take players with high upside but also a high level of skill and hopefully those two players are either point guard or power forwards. I think Randolph fits the bill to a T.
Jordan I have a lot of concerns. I think he could slip out of the 1st round. I wouldn’t mind if the Kings traded for a 2nd 1st rounder and perhaps take DeAndre Jordan. I would be teams that are over the tax for potential picks perhaps up to Denver (#20). Jordan at 15 is way too risky. I think DeAndre could very well be a bust.
BOOK IT!

Ajinca
Per above (sorry) Thats why I voted for Ajinca. Time for Petrie to make an educated roll of the dice.
