Possible TOR-IND Trade Could Help Kings
(From the FanPosts. - TZ)
According to this report, the Raptors and Pacers are discussing a trade based around T.J. Ford and Jermaine O'Neal. It would make sense for both teams to pull the trigger, so it seems more likely than the PHX rumor involving Ford for Boris Diaw.
Anyways, if this trade goes through, Indiana would most likey take Anthony Randolph as O'Neal's replacement, and in the process likely dropping D.J. Augustin down one slot to us.
It's all a rumor right now, but the Kings could get Augustin and trade the two second rounders to get back in and grab a Anderson/McGee/Hickson type and fill the PG and PF problem.

OPT OUT?
Isn’t O’Neil another player who could opt out after the draft? If so, (I think I’m right) that trade would make no sense to Toronto. Also, how would they make those salaries add up?

Because O’Neal has roughly ($) 44 million reasons not to opt out. Whose going to pay him anything close to that, considering he is an injury risk right now. Plus, Toronto gives him a chance to actually be relevant in the playoffs again.

Many players have an opt-out date before July (Marion’s is tomorrow, for example). No idea if this is the case with J.O.
If it’s not, and the opt-out is post-draft, the teams could wait to make it official. The only hang-up would be J.O. deciding he hates Toronto so much he’ll give up his $20 million contract.

You can't trade a player with an opt-out/ETO until the next season
It doesn’t matter whether he opts in or not. That’s just the way it is.

It's like trading a Free Agent basically
Even though JO has said he won’t opt out he is still considered in that status until July 1st.

I could be wrong
I read TZ’s comment as, If the Pacers & Raps came to an agreement on terms (which is not uncommon), JO could then opt out if he hated Toronto so much . . . knowing that he’d be going to the Raps otherwise.
Perhaps I read too much into it.

The CBA doesn't allow for that

That doesn't sound good to me.
I would rather have Randolph over Augustin. Augustin is very intriguing and I doubt Petrie would pass on Augustin but I would rather have a young, athletic and high upside big man than Augustin. I hope we strike a trade and move up in the draft. How about no. 8 with Milwaukee?
Artest for Simmons and no. 8??? And use no. 8 to take Westbrook?

Or
Why don’t we try to acquire Ford? I think Ford is an underrated point guard and his speed and shooting could fit real nicely with Martin, Garcia and Hawes.

I would rather we trade into the teens
Maybe a deal to receive a pick between 15-20 that involves Ron-Ron and the second-rounders? Pick up Ajinca or Speights.

We can't
make any kind of draft deal that includes Artest, because his ETO doesn’t have to be exercised until the 30th, 4 days after the draft.

Dang.
I really like Randolph. The only thing is he is either the next KG or the next Tim Thomas. or somewhere in between.

I had some concerns
about Augustin’s size…. maybe I still do.
But his recent impressive NBA workouts, matched along with the body of work he put together at Texas have sold me. His explosiveness, vision and unquestioned ball handling ability should outweigh his (literal) shortcomings, and it’d be interesting to have a true point guard here.
We could do a lot worse than ending up with DJ at #13.
Randolph on the other hand is like Augustin’s mirrored opposite. You look at the guy and say “wow, now that’s an NBA player!” but his stats undermine that opinion (check lietothegirls’ recent post on college power forwards); and after his recent workouts in front of scouts he’s gone from a projected top 6 or 7 pick to down into Kings territory or below. He can’t shoot, he’s not a good defender.
If Augustin falls to us, great! If not, I’d rather roll the dice on Ajinca or Speights or even trade the pick rather than draft Randolph, who’s looking like a potential underachiever.

More on Randolph...
A blogger over at RealGM.com called the bizness posted this after watching Anthony Randolph workout for the Grizzlies:
”...Randolph’s focus and effort flagged throughout the workout. Occasionally he would bear down and flash an extra gear athletically that no one else in the gym could match, but more often he seemed to be coasting. In live, three-on-three drills, Randolph seemed to be holding the ball a lot…. Randolph also seemed to tire easily.”
Here’s his entire post:

Hey, if Randolph turns out to be another Tim Thomas, that wouldn’t be so bad, but the KG comparison doesn’t work for me. At all.
Kevin Garnett is the absolute epitome of 100% focus and effort in an athlete. I doubt he even knows the meaning of the word “coasting”. Hell, I’ve seen him at Arco sweating hard from his pre-game warm-up routine!
Again, I appreciate the hope of coming up with an athletic big man in this draft, but I hope the Kings let somebody else take a chance on Randolph.

Understand your concerns
Randolph is one of the YOUNGEST PLAYERS IN THIS DRAFT. Technically he should be a high school senior going to his first year of college. (7/15/1989)
He needs to learn to channel his focus and improve his motor. I think these questions can be answered with time. Randolph produced, albeit for a terrible team in a bad situation in LSU, but if we like Spencer so much than they should really give Randolph a chance. The Kings are in a rebuilding mode that will probably last until they have the necessary cap space to sign a major free agent so they can afford to be patient and see what the kid can give you. Hopefully this guys works as hard as Kevin Martin did and can reach his full potential.
I think there’s plenty to like about Randolph and would be absolutely disappointed if we left him in the green room.

regardless of my doubts
we just might end up with Randolph, so I hope you’re right, kingme.

Kobe, how my ass taste?
A complete derailment of this thread but I’m otherwise unqualified to post here. I simply read the article, noticed a sidebar link and found myself on TMZ.com watching yet another hilarious Shaq rap video performed in NYC this week.
I’m too stupid to figure out how to link the video directly (you’ll have to click the video link in the posted link to watch) into the fanshots section, so anyone with mad skillz is welcome to post it there if you find it funny enough.
Definitely NSFW but funny as hell. By the third listen, I was bobbing my head and smiling. Ah, good times!

Colangelo makes magic...
Consummating this trade would basically mean that Colangelo has turned Charlie Villanueva into Jermaine O’Neal. Injury concerns aside, wow.
Beware certitude.

A Better Deal
I still think the TOR – Kings deal makes more sense for both teams but Colangelo might really want tp blow things up.
I’m just not convinced J O’Neil will eve play the way he did before – and I think he was good – but overrated at that.
