Bye Bye Beno?
According to our friend Sam Amick, Beno Udrih's agent (Marc Cornstein) considers the full MLE of $6 million annually a "bargain" price for Beno Udrih. The KIngs would really be flirting with the a little luxury tax (which also means not getting luxury tax revenue from other teams) if they pay Beno the full MLE.
Also, Mark Stevens mentions that nothing has changed and that Ron Artest should be here for one more season.

Good
Beno is not worth more than the full MLE.

Yeah. They’re really over-blowing Beno’s talent level. He only got the numbers he did because he was putting up big minutes. Give almost any NBA PG those kinds of minutes and they’d also produce big numbers. 12.8 points, 4.3 assists and 2.3 TOs in 32 minutes per game is nothing to go crazy over, unless he were to drastically improve his game.

Agreed
I agree. Beno played well last season, but $6 million per year is pushing it. I’m not sure I’d even offer him that much over three years. His production was decent to very good, but you’re not winning a championship with Beno running the show. On some level this isn’t even about Beno. It’s about signing decent to good players for medium sized money every year. The Kings will never go anywhere with a team full of $5-$6 million per year players.

hype
This is just an agent doing his job.
I’d be awfully surprised to see GP blink at the negotiating table, especially for a player with the obvious flaws of Beno. I like him, but I don’t $6M per like him. I’d be happier just handing the reins over to an Augustin type for a sixth as much money.

agreed
The agent is being an agent – what do we expect him to say? Much to do about nothing.
I know that there are some folks here who have a pretty good pulse of the league and can probably provide some insight about what Beno’s market value actually is at this point. I really don’t keep up with this stuff, but I suspect it is not the full MLE.

His agent needs to be careful
I don’t think GP really cares for the gameplaying too much. He will make other plans in a heartbeat if he thinks they are over-posturing.

Or...
Maybe his agent knows the demand is there…who knows? But 6 mill per is a bit steep for him – I think he could be a very good point guard in the league, but I’d also think he needs to play a whole season as a starter and stay healthy before getting that kind of money.

Let him shop
He might end up getting Bonzi’d before all is said and done.

Full MLE too much for Beno
If we lose Beno, Augustin, Westbrook and Chalmers.. we’re in serious trouble unless a trade happens. On the other hand, if we give the full MLE to Beno it would be like officially condemning the team to 4-5 more years of mediocrity. Between the two, I prefer not having a serious PG and explore options during the season. The worst that can happen is get a better pick next year.
And seriously, Theus has to give Martin a lot of shots and stop talking about Artest being The Man on the team. Let Martin take 19-20 shots and average 29-30 ppg with 47%. Even if his % decrease, his FTA will go up. The only reason Artest stays with us is because he wants to raise his value and try Free Agency next year. And that’s cool but saying it out loud like he did, shows his lack of loyalty and bondage with the kings. Anyway.. offff topic. Have a nice day!

Good
Petrie is not a dumbass, he’s not going to pay a backup injury prone, turnover prone, no defense point some overpriced contract. Crap, Bonzi did way more for the team and Petrie gave him the best offer out there. I expect Petrie to offer Beno a decend offer, but the full midlevel? Beno just lost Indiana today, so the places he can go are really going to be limited. Really where else is Beno going to be able to get that cash?
Lakers suck!

I agree
I think his agent is trying to put the heat on the kings. Its no surprise the draft is today and his agent his commenting on his client’s value. Petrie should stay away from Beno if his agent is going to be demanding that kind of money. Everyone knows about Bonzi and what happened there. Petrie will give Beno a fair offer, I don’t think his game is to low ball players and screw them out of money. Most of his signings have been pretty generous towards players in the past couple years. See Moore and Salmons contracts.
