If Artest Opts Out...

I guess the Kings are in full re-build mode.

by LiquidPolio on Jun 26, 2008 6:24 PM PDT   0 recs

They already were...

They just refused to admit it, and stop spending the MLE.

by cabz on Jun 26, 2008 6:25 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

So...

Did the fact that the Kings spent the MLE on Mikki cost us Bayless? How soon can we run Petrie out of town?

by cabz on Jun 26, 2008 6:26 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

So...

What could that Kings have offered, in place of Diogu?

by cabz on Jun 26, 2008 6:24 PM PDT   0 recs

We got a solid guy to plug in the 4

He’ll be happy in Sacto

We can focus on other needs

or the 5 spot

And my guess is he’ll be a get-along guy, who will look to fit in with Hawes, Franky, KevMart and Beno.

We needed a 6-11 rebounder, shot blocker more than anything else, IMO.

Anybody have any idea what the few years of prospects look like? Because I expect the Kings will be drafting high for a while now.

Is there another 4 who could have helped us more this season that was still available?

Clearly there were players with more upside. But a guy who could step right in?

maybe speights?

Is stepping right in important? We’re rebuilding, not competing for a ring.

I agree.

I’m just wondering at the thinking. It wasn’t like he was the only 4 available. So maybe it was because we were looking at someone who could play now. Of course his numbers are awesome and GP has done well with picking players from smaller colleges.

He may be great

I don’t know anything about him. I just hope stepping right in wasn’t a consideration. We’ve got to get rid of the retool while trying to make the playoffs thing and just rebuild.

For all of the Potland worship

The Pacers drafted a redundant player and swapped him and Diogu for Rush, Jack and McRoberts. Good deal for both teams, but Larry Legend did good here.

But don’t Rush, Granger and Dunleavy all play the same position?

by Jaycee on Jun 26, 2008 6:41 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Maybe

I see Rush as a guy that can play behind both Granger and Dunleavey, and I still think that McRoberts could be a player, especially in Indy’s system. Jack is good insurance behind Ford.

Speights

probably was more ready. The thing is, the Kings didn’t need to get somebody to help this season, because they have no hope of competing yet anyway. A higher upside project would’ve given them something to build toward.

From the Truehoop draft blog

Jeffrey Ma of ProTrade on Bayless: “That makes a lot of sense. Bayless is a tough one … if he can play point guard he will be a success, if he can’t he will be a bust.” Ma also adds that the player he was really pressuring the Blazers to draft was Jason Thompson. “Thompson went higher than I thought he would go but he had some of the best statistical numbers of anyone in this class,” Ma explains. “Obviously his level of competition was something that concerned people but purely by statistics we had him rated fifth in this draft.”

ProTrade

Pro Trade recently effed up the Tiger Woods injury in a massive way. I lost a ton of respect for the site that day. Just saying.

We thought Douby could play point too…look how well that turned out. If Bayless can’t play point and is considered a bust; would we have been happy with 2 Doubys?

Here's an interesting Question

If NJ knows they’re getting Lopez & Anderson . . . do they still make the Jefferson for Yi deal?

I say no.

by smgmatt on Jun 26, 2008 6:41 PM PDT   0 recs

Second Question

If Indy knows that Bayless falls, do they still make the JO for Ford trade?

by smgmatt on Jun 26, 2008 6:42 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Already asked that...

and not sure why they would. Although, jury is out on Bayless playing point. As I mentioned earlier today, Westbrook ate him up defensively.

by cabz on Jun 26, 2008 6:43 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I say yes

Since they made the deal in part to clear cap space for LeBron in 2010.

There were probably other ways to clear space that weren’t redundant with their draft picks.

That was my reasoning, anyway.

Crazy speculation

I just learned that Rider university is right near Princeton. Maybe Petrie got some inside scouting info on Jason Thompson and he’s an even bigger steal than we thought. Perhaps I’m just really reaching here …

idk

Carrill’s been in Princeton over the last three years, but he’s hardly been coaching – he wasn’t even mentioned for the princeton job. idk, maybe… unlikely though.

Ken Davis of NBCSports.com

named Jason Thompson the sleeper of the draft in an article published on Tuesday. I read that and said “who?” like everybody else. The article said that in a game vs Kansas State back in November Thompson scored 24 pts and had 13 rebounds while holding Beasley to 13 and 10…

something i've been experimenting with but never used before

those instructions at the top:
Press C to tab through new comments, Shift-C to tab backwards, X to mark a comment as read, and Shift-A to mark all read.
Z will simultaneously mark and tab forward, and R will reply to the comment that has focus.

Just keep hittign z… it makes reading comments sooooo much easier.

The guy has an NBA body, is a legit rebounder, shotblocker, and banger…...Kinda what people on this board have been bitching about for the last 2 years…......So much misdirected hate…..................

I don’t think anybody here knows enough about Thompson to dislike him. Most around here, if anything, if I had a choice of words to sum it up, are confused about the selection and the strategy used to draft him.
