During those camps I worked out with some NBA trainers and I also got to play against some of the best guys in the NBA. We played some pickup and we had some guys that are preparing for the NBA Draft playing, but I took that challenge of guarding first-team NBA players. I tried to challenge myself as well as show the people that I’m not going to back down from anybody even though they are the better player.

Think back to the 1985 draft.......................
The Utah Jazz took a chance on a small school power forward from Louisiana Tech with the 13th pick. His last year in college he averaged 16.5 pts and 9.0 rebs against the small school competition. He also ended up being one of the greatest players of all time….....Karl Malone…...
Let the armchair GM’s cry, but let the real GM’s and scouts do what they do best…....evaluate talent…..........

Brilliantly stated
But Brook Lopez and Kevin Love want a word with you out back, since you just cast them as Jon Koncak and Joe Kleine.

Sweet!
We got a young Karl Malone!! WOOHOO
Wait, how many years ago was that? So…what you’re saying is…it’s kind of a rare occurence. Gotcha.

Point missed.........but I doubt you even tried to get it................
What I’m saying is that the most “well-known” players coming out aren’t always the best. I’m also saying that because you watch sports on the tv doesn’t mean you are the most qualified to make business decisions regarding said sport or sports.
But thanks for chiming in.

Agreed
Your point kind of goes for…both of us…right? Am I using enough ellipses???
My point? Karl Malone is an aberration, and an old one at that. Guys like that rarely slip that far anymore – whether the talent evaluation is better, whether it’s access to the internet or advance statistics, could be a million reasons.
But I’ll be sure to remember your “armchair GM” blast whenever you criticize a player, coach or owner in the NBA.

Thompson
Kevin Martin is apparently VERY happy with Thompson, was VERY impressed with him in the workouts. I know he wasn’t ‘hyped’ before the draft but his numbers are great. 2nd leading rebounder inthe country behind Beasley, a grown-up, has great size and weight, used to play guard just a few years ago before he kept growing….
Hmmmm
I’m a little less depressed but still wish we’d made another move or two.
eternal skeptical optimist
On the contrary.....................
Sometimes great players fall much farther than 12…..and recently too…....Let us not forget about the Kings own Kevin Martin (26th in 2004), Carlos Boozer (34th in 2002), Gilbert Arenas (30th in 2001)....the list goes on and on…....
And I didn’t really mean the armchair GM as “a blast” but feel free to call me out if I ever delve into said arena…...

"even though they are the better player"
He might need some work on his self-esteem, though.
Life is every mammal's journey from very very wet to very very dry.
They were NBA players and he was a college player
Sounds like the right amount of respect to me. At least he wasn’t talking about winning the Championship while his team was 10 games under .500.

this team could never have enough level-headedness…

On his you tube vid from sacbee
he did say he likened his game to Sheed only without the attitude, but I think that he could use a little more arrogance no matter who he goes against, since he will be seeing the best of the best every night now (except when the Knicks are in town).
