Not to doubt the illustrious Brian May, but ...
I’ll believe it when Geoff Petrie, Wayne Cooper, or Jerry Reynolds confirms it at 9:01 p.m. Pacific.

And just to emphasize: It’s not a question that this is the word as of now. It’s a question that Ron-Ron could drink a Mountain Dew and change his mind within the next five hours. That’s all.

Now Trade Him
For a point guard like Raymond Felton. Do an Artest for Felton and Morrison exchange

Morrison
He looks like he’s been to a few too many Metallica concerts.

well
i guess this is good and bad news.
i wouldn’t mind the felton/morrison trade either i guess

I’d love to get Morrison as a throw in knowing that he could still produce someday, and he has a killer stache which would be great to see in hi-def. The stache actually being the bigger reason to have him

Great News
This is Great News. Regardless of whether he stays and signs a long-term deal (which I’m hoping for) or we keep him until the trade deadline for a sign&trade, it still beats the hell out of losing him for nothing!
by Hoops916 on Jun 30, 2008 4:06 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
This is a good thing
Now we can ship him off for someone who has value. He’s gone a year now without any incidents to speak and put together a really good season this year.
The Felton thing might actually have legs, depending on how Charolette views Artest. They apparently don’t like Felton much, since they drafted Augustin and tried to trade for TJ Ford. Also, it looks like Wallace is expendable as well, since they were offering him for Ford.
Regardless, we should be able to get some value for Artest now.

Keep him...
...he’ll make this year more tolerable than if we don’t. I know we aren’t contending this year. It’d be better to watch Artest than not.

I agree, expiring contracts seem to be hugely popular with so many teams over the salary cap and needing relief. If they can’t get Artest to sign a contract, then move him for a point guard.

If we get something decent for him in trade,
Petrie suddenly looks very smart for not taking Denver’s 1st round pick and filler.

Could have been better off
with that Denver trade, perphaps, if we could have traded that pick with our No. 12 to move up to say the ninth spot to get Augustin and something else from Charlotte.

Any PG at or a bit less than Artest's value will do
If we’re gearing for 2010, we’d might as well head for it full steam. I say we should trade Artest for a fairly decent, rookie or semi-rookie PG who has a few years left on their contract and expiring contracts. This would probably clear up about 5mil of cap space for 2010 and could also be used to re-sign Garcia/Hawes in the future, while trying to maintain that 20mil of cap freed up from Moore/K-9/Reef in 2010. If we maintain that amount of space, while still being able to re-sign Hawes/Garcia, we could probably offer LeBron or CP3 a 20 mil per season contract.
by CloudyEyes on Jun 30, 2008 6:28 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
An offer
which they would almost certainly turn down. The problem is that just about every other team in the league has this same plan in mind, and many of these teams are much more appealing to free agents than we are, often because of location alone. Rather than putting all our energy into a great player like Lebron or CP3, we should instead try to get a couple of good players.

Not if they’re a team that wants a championship now. The Lakers, Spurs, Hornets, Mavericks, Suns, Nuggets are among a few teams that want help now to make a championship run.

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy
Yay, not gonna lose the best one on one defender in the league.
Yay, not gonna lose a 20 ppg scorer.
Yay, not gonna lose the only personable player in the whole organization.
Artest is a keeper, considering he doesn’t try to kill anyone. This year is, and should be a wash, with ‘09-’10 looking glorious. With Hawes, Martin, Artest, and whoever Petrie might steal from someone, you might see an ‘01-’02 redux of the roster.

Whoa
Stop drinkin’ the cool aid. We need a big year 2 from Hawes and hopefully Thompson can contribute meaningful minutes for us down low. I just want a trip to the playoffs.
Once this team gets a PG that can set the table, we can shake up the standings a bit out West. We got a budding superstar in Kevin Martin (I think he’s better than Roy) who I wouldn’t trade unless Lebron, Wade, Kobe, CP3 or Howard are coming back.
BOOK IT!

Holding my breath
For another 30 minutes. Fooools, that what I think of those who wish to see him gone. (nothin’ personal) An actual Star player that would very hard to attract here otherwise.
At the very worst, an excellent trading piece that allows us to stay in the game.
(but Petrie, he’s still yooooung – don’t doooo it!)

Let's see
Ron has opted in and out 4,372 times in the past month and a half. I wonder if that has anything to do with the opinion of the “fools.” I have to think the Kings front office has tired of this as well.

Actually
It only turned out to be 3-4 flip flops. Maybe I missed 1-2. But it wasn’t a zillion. Pretty tame by Ron-Ron standards. I think we’ll have him to kick around until the February trading deadline at the very least. Should be an entertaining season.

Facetious
The one thing I always remember about the word “facetious” is that it’s one of only two words in the English language that has all five vowels in alphabetically order.

I'm fool #1
While I agree that Artest has talent, we obviously disagree on his value to the team. I see him as a similar player to Stephon Marbury. Great talent but for some reason teams seem to be better after he leaves. Of course this is just my opinion.
I’m ok with him not opting out if we trade him. If we give him a big extension, I’ll be very bummed. If we keep him around all season and let him walk then, I’ll be bummed. If he’s not a part of the future, I say move him now. Giving more PT to Salmons, Garcia, Douby and JT. Keeping him for 1 more season and then letting him walk would do nothing but hurt our ‘09 draft pick. Same for keeping him until the deadline, though an argument could be made that that is when his trade value will be highest, assuming he doesn’t melt down between now and then.

Yep
The Pacers really went places after Ron left. And those Bulls have been regular worldbeaters.
The Marbury comparison is pretty weak. Stephon has been pathetic for a few years now. Artest is still a top player.
Whether we keep him or not really depends as much on the other moves we are able to make between now and the start of the season. I think if we resign Beno, and I think we will, we’re going to surprise some folks next season. And that will naturally put Rons’ future with the club in a different light.
by coolcatreportdotcom on Jun 30, 2008 9:43 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
You're right
I didn’t really mean that the Kings would win more games with Artest gone(for the record I think we’d win less), though that’s what I wrote. I meant that I see him as a selfish player in the Marbury mold. I should have been clearer.

Yeah and Marbury has made the playoffs a few teams as the leading player on his team
Marbury was a stud whose stupidity wasted his time in the League. That doesn’t mean that Artest and Marbury aren’t strong comparisons to each other. (It even works when you consider they are both from NYC, albeit from different boroughs.)

Add me to the parade of fools
Glad he didn’t opt out. But only so we can get something of value for him. Artest stayed with the Kings for one reason only. Because we could pay him the most money. I totally expect him to ask Petrie to trade him to a contender where he can sign a long term contract for more money. I will be very surprised if he is in Sac to start the season. Give me a young PG and a first round draft pick and I’ll dance in the street. (But not naked like some people.)

This is Probably a Stupid Question
But could the Kings sign Beno and then trade him, Artest and Salmons for Baron Davis?

I don't think so
We don’t have his Bird rights, so we’d have to wait 90 days or 60 days or what ever it is.

Trade
I’ve been calling for a trade for two years.
Geoff Petrie has been ignoring me for two years.
I keep hoping that he’ll do the right (and smart) thing, and keep expecting that he will not.
