Ok, so what would be your (somewhat) realistic best-case-scenario for the Kings to turn them into a championship caliber squad.
First, sign Beno to a 3 year deal at the midlevel with the last year being a team option (which gives us an out when we go after free agents in 2010)
Second, draft Russell Westbrook at #12 and have him play behind Beno and learn the position.
After the June 30th (or whenever the date is), trade Ron-Ron after he opts-into the last year of his contract for Josh Howard (may need some cap filler to make the deal work - i.e., Douby and Williams).
Trade John Salmons and next year's #1 to Milwakee for the rights to this year's #7 pick (OK-so I am taking liberties here as far as this being realistic, but they are rumored to be looking to move the pick and the 3 is their weakest position). Take Anthony Randolph with the pick and immediately start feeding him. Have Anthony learn behind Mikki for a year or two.
Let Brad Miller, Kenny Thomas and Shareef's deals expire and don't pick up Mikki's last year. Pick up Beno's last year if he has earned it,. Let him him go if he hasn't.
Use the 30 million (just spit-balling figures here) to sign Chris Bosh to a mega deal in 2010 (as long as his knees hold up the next two years).
That leaves us with the following lineup in 2010:
In 2011, we win the NBA championship and move into our new, state-of-the-art arena at Cal Expo. There, I've laid it all out for Geoff, so his job should be easy.
