"Kings also pursuing Arenas?"
That was enough for me to go berserk and create the fanpost.. just thinking that there's a chance...... .:-O (just keep cisco plz)
It came from here: http://hoopshype.com/ and here.
"Also, I heard from a very reliable source that the Sacramento Kings contacted Arenas and said they are willing to do "whatever it takes" to land his services even if they have to "trade their entire team."" Guess the Maloof brothers want to matter again." Washington Post

How could we get him?
They wouldn’t want Artest, I’d imagine. Any deal would have to involve Kevin more than likely, and I’m not sure I’d want to give up Kevin for Gilbert given Gilbert’s recent injuries.
Done
Martin and Artest for Arenas is an absolute no brainer, regardless of Arenas past injury’s. We’d be giving up a player with past ( I use past lightly) problems in Artest, and I’m sure Martin with his frail body type will have his share of injury’s in the future. I’m pretty sure the salarys match as will.
Kevin Martin & BYC
Kevin Martin is a BASE YEAR COMPENSATION (BYC) player. He almost literally cannot be traded unless a team with cap space is involved.
HoopsHype shows Martin’s contact at roughly $9.2M, but for trade purposes, Sacramento can only take back $4.1M. The big catch here is that whomever Sacramento trades with will have to match (or absorb) all $9.2M. As you can see, it makes trading a BYC player increadibly difficult.
The plus side is that if the Kings somehow manage to land Arenas (Miller & Artest?) then Martin will still probably be here to play alongside him. The minus is that the Kings may not be able to put together a strong enough offer (Miller & Artest?) to land him in the first place.
Welcome to my world my friend
Now when you understand the PPP provision you Obi Wan Kenobe will meditate for many moons.

I understand the "concept"
But I don’t think I could reasonably come up with accurate numbers in that type of situation.
Outgoing Salary = Actual Salary (just like BYC).
Incoming Salary = The average salary based upon a player’s final season salary from their rookie scale contract and the entire extension (which may or may not have been calculated yet, if it is a max deal).
Um, I’ll just stick with “PPP = untradeable without salary cap space” and leave it at that.
Yeah no doubt smg
But you get the point, and get why it’s so difficult to trade to a player under that circumstance.

you guys are really desperate
wanna sacrifice your best player along with your best trade asset for a combo guard (an allstar level one but still) with a bum knee and pay him +100 mln $.
don’t get me wrong, i like arenas, i think he’s a great talent and a very entertaining individual both on and off the court. I just don’t see him being a key player on a championship caliber team.
How well did he do the last several years?

last year wasn't so hot but before that...
19ppg last year, but 28.4 and 29.4 the two years before that
5.1/6.0/6.1 APG
Wasn't talking about his scoring numbers and or shooting percentages
I was talking about the wins in the playoffs and series won. That is the bottom line isn’t it?

well, yeah but
how many series had Pierce/Allen/Garnett won before this year?
I don’t think anyone’s saying he’s LeBron or even Garnett, but if he returns to form he’d be a very valuable piece on a contender.
Allen 4 Garnett 2 and Pierce won 3 or 4
Your point is well taken, but Garnett was in the wrong conference. Allen and PIerce won a majority of those in the East.

We better look at trading Kevin Martin
Maybe in another year, when he’s the same age as Arenas is now.

Kevin Pritchard stole my daughter's lunch money.
Well at least you can get back 10 mil in salary a year from now

not a good thing
as “nice” of a player arenas is, i wouldn’t want him on my team. he can disappear from big games and i don’t see him as the leader of the team. at least not for that money. that has been one of the biggest problems i have had with brad miller. he makes the most amount of money on this team and he is NOT the leader.
arenas is a good player, but i don’t see him as a difference maker. he is great fantasy/stats guy, but not one who will lead the team to a championship.

Until Bibby was traded BradBaby didn't have the highest salary
Otherwise I see your point and I pretty much agree with it.

Yup
And when he was signed, Webber was ahead of him as well. He was paid 3rd-banana money on a Championship Contender, which has turned into 1st-banana money on a rebuilding squad.
As Section has pointed out, most of Sacramento’s problems are direct leftovers from the heydays.
That, and the Maloof's didn't want to pay luxury tax either
I mean I think dealing Webber was smart, but unfortunately, I think the real problem was the dollars he signed originally. There was no way you were going to get more than what the Kings got for Webber in 05. There was just no way.

Martin is off limits!
Are you for reals? Martin was leading the league in scoring last year, up until injuries slowed him down. Is virtually unguardable when it comes to his speed and midrange touch. He needs work on defense, but he’s got Artest to look to help on defense.
Lakers suck!
Relax Douby
He can’t be traded this season barring an absolute miracle (which means a team with cap room) in order to be traded. (For those who don’t understand what I mean Martin is BYC. For a definition look here on Larry Coon’s FAQ. It’s really the best explanation of what BYC is.)

Trade Martin? never happen
Unless it was for a ‘superstar’. Unless of course in few years we’re no closer than we are now – then. . . .maybe.
