Summer League Cuts

Via Sam Amick, the Kings cut:

  • Zabian Dowdell
  • David Johnson
  • Lawrence Roberts
  • Darnell Jones

Dowdell and Roberts were two of the more known names, and Johnson's the local guy.

I'm confused

What’s the advantage of cutting someone in Summer League? I can think of reasons for it, I just want to know the real reasons.

Anyone?

They’re not getting paid enough to warrant firing (if they’re getting paid/compensated with freee goodies). Even if the team decides they’re not going to be valuable, wouldn’t it be nice to have the extra bodies in practice? Or is the demeanor of a player who isn’t playing dangerous enough to warrant removing the guy? I’m curious – any theories?

Maybe the extra bodies

were so they could have good practices here, but now they’re cutting down to a vaible number for the summer league.

Or maybe they narrowed Brad’s “source” to one of these four guys and just cut them all loose.

1. Travel. They made the cuts before leaving for Vegas.

2. If they aren’t going to get minutes, it’s better to not take them and let them start working on other options.

It's very clear there's 6 and maybe 7 if you include the dude from NMST

Beyond that there isn’t little else for anyone else. I would suspect long shot’s with no future beyond camp will show up with the Kings looking to impress anyone to get a NBDL shot. Because all those camp spots will be taken by Singletary Ewing, the NMST kid whom I’m blanking on his name, and all that stuff. This isn’t a Justin Williams situation where a rookie Free Agent can play onto the team because there wasn’t a 2nd round pick.

No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. It's simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get tangled, you tango on

ok

Number 2 is the winner, for me, that makes the most sense.

Sad...

...to see Johnson gone. Gotta love the local guy. It’s hard when its a small market team. You kinda hope they can take some one like him.

Agree

We read the human interest story, started to root for the guy, then he doesn’t even get to go to Vegas. So sad.
