Sigh
Looks like Shareef won’t medically retire.

Yeah, but on the other hand, you have to be happy for the guy. Hopefully he can come back and still be able to produce a bit and maybe have some trade value at some point.

Shareef
is a stand up guy. I wanted him in Sacramento because he would be a valid low post scoring threat and the fact he wanted to come to Sacramento was great.
Hopefully Shareef can have a good year off the bench.

Coach SAR?
There are some good shots of Shareef in there giving tips to Hawes and Thompson. He’s a good guy to have around the gym with the kids. He’s got a ton of moves. It’s just too bad his knees are so brittle.

succinct, telling, descriptive, informative,
Glad to know you compare proffessional athletes to horses. Good job, I’d never have thought of such a complicated but descriptive metaphor. Embedded in simile, it would poetic. As it stands, nearly prophetic. Fantastic post, sir, I do commend – my intellect is now complete haven been informed by yours.

clearly
uncalled for. Don’t be mad because a guy with two bad knees still plays basketball better than you can do, well, anything.

Disagree
I believe FSN is better with the insults than Shareef. Let’s give credit where it’s due.

But let's add perspective
Shareef Abdur-Rahim is in the top 1% in his profession in all of the world. We could probably break it down into even smaller percentiles when you consider the number of NBA players in contrast to the number of people who play basketball. I don’t think that a recycled joke from FSN qualifies as the top 1% of insults worldwide.

Sarcasm, EG, sarcasm
I’m pretty sure Carl was playing on the fact that FSNs insults are about as intelligent as a 6 year old calling Hulk Hogan fat.

Logjam
The logjam at Power Forward is just getting worse, and Shareef can’t be traded at all until he proves he’s healthy. If he’s healthy, he might be worth a second rounder due to ongoing health concerns.
I am happy for the guy, as by all accounts he’s a quality individual and he has certainly been productive in his time with the Kings. It just makes things tougher when you’ve got FOUR power forwards vying for time, and that’s not counting Kenny Thomas.

who is Curt Kobain + 10 cheeseburgers
who is talking to Thompson? Is he on our summer league team? Please don’t tell me he is the guy hooking up with the playboy chick.

Assistant Coach Jason Hamm
Jason Hamm. So it would be more accurate to say Kurt Cobain + 10 hamm sandwiches.

'Reef
Good guy, bad contract.

KT,
almost the same.
Good guys, hard workers, bad contracts.
Other than their contracts both guys aren’t cancers and have a place in the league. This just isn’t the place for them. ‘Reef’s knee braces on both of his knees make me wince in this photo.
I don’t get the KT hate, I never have. His contact is outrageous, but unless I missed the news, he didn’t hold a gun to anyone’s head to get it. He didn’t force the Kings to trade for him, but they did,. He whined, exactly once as a King, and STFU after that. Sure, I wish he had at least done us the favor of opting out, but in reality? Would you have done that in his circumstances? I know that (hopefully) I would work as hard as I could (he seems to be doing this) to prove that I deserved my job whether or not my boss believed in me (in KT’s case, they don’t…and they might be totally right in that assessment) or not.
How refreshing that the dude unloaded once instead of endlessly like Ron “Bill-Bill” Artest. How sad that his only disruption is seen (by me) as a positive to defend against Artest’s multiple talk bombs?
If KT has been as disruptive as “Bill-Bill” please enlighten me. I missed all of those SacBee and ESPN articles documenting that.

Good post
I agree. Kenny hasn’t helped himself with the quality of his play, but you’re right that he’s pretty much kept his mouth shut as far as we know.

Silence is a golden contract
The reason I dislike KT so much goes far beyond his contract. The common fan often dreams of what it would be like to play professional sports. And we think to ourselves about how we would give it our all, on every play. It’s the reason that guys like Pete Rose win over the fans. They play like they have been given the opportunity of a lifetime. KT is content to sit on a bench, contribute nothing, allow his talent to go to waste, and to do all of this silently.
I’m glad he’s not a loudmouth complaining, but his lack of effort on the court led to our dislike for him. I see where you’re coming from though. It’s easy to forget his on-court play when its been so long since he’s gotten off the bench.

Wrong!
I’m glad he’s not a loudmouth complaining, but his lack of effort on the court led to our dislike for him. I see where you’re coming from though. It’s easy to forget his on-court play when its been so long since he’s gotten off the bench.
KT never lacked effort or desire, his skills just don’t translate well on this team. There may be another team in the league who can find his value, even if it even if it means trading one, two, or more players to get him.
I’m not saying that he’s the second coming. It’s his freakin’ contract that destroys his trade value.
He’s a solid guy, he does what he does, he has value. His value, however, does not translate into his contract dollars.
Again, he didn’t hold a gun to anyone’s head to get that contract signed (as far as I know) and the Kings accepted his contract in the Webber trade.
Deal with it. Petrie and the Maloofs took it on. Do I like it? No. But that’s hindsight.
Wow. A guy who wants to play, Who believes he can play (with reason), and doesn’t bitch about his lack of playing time?
Who’d a thunk it?

Just because there is a sighting doesn't mean he won't retire.
I think it’s good he’s helping out, his offensive post skills are very good and the Kings will get a good feel for his availability earlier than expected. The picture of he and Shelden Williams is a very welcome sight in my book. If he can teach Williams to have both a right and left foot instead of two lefties the Kings might be able to get two extra players, not just one. If healthy, SAR could also replace K-9 in an Artest/Odom deal if the Lakers want to save a few bucks.

Reef is a great guy.
He’s got ambition, Morales, Talent, Drive, team-mentality, and unfortuantely… bad knees.
Don’t get me wrong, if he somehow worked his way into the rotation behind Miller/Shawes/Thomson/Mikki I’d be happy with him as our fifth string bigman. Great dude, if I had money I’d even buy his jersey just to have an excuse to stalk him until he signs it. But as said previous to my post there is just a disgusting log-jam at our power-forward position.
I’m ok with him being our Corliss Williamson 2.0, Get rid of Thomas before Reef if GP has the ability to choose, and I’m a happy camper.
by dkons21 on Jul 14, 2008 9:22 PM PDT 0 recs
Yeah, I'd much rather have Reef but at this point does it really matter?
We are dealing with two 12,13,14 men on the bench. I’d rather keep SAR and see if his knee makes it through training camp, plus he’s a way better dude than the K-9.
