Amick: Bass and Stackhouse offered for Artest
Sam Amick reports that the Mavericks offered Brandon Bass and Jerry Stackhouse for Ron Artest. Amick also notes that the Mavs are unlikely to offer Josh Howard and that he doesn't see Petrie doing the deal as offered.
Amick's post indicates that Lamar Odom is available, but the potential Artest and Kenny Thomas for Odom deal is on hold until the Lakers decide whether to match the Warriors offer for Ronny Turiaf this Friday.

Petrie is right to hold out. I like Bass, but he replicates what he have, and Stackhouse is… old. I’d rather not deal with Dallas’s poo-poo platter. It’s not our fault they overpayed for Jason Kidd.

Modified trade
Here’s a trade I would consider:
Artest and Shelden Williams for Stackhouse, Brandon Bass, Eddie Jones and a first round pick.
The Kings get a promising young player (Bass) and a first round pick. Jones is cut immediately, Bass takes Shelden’s spot in the rotation and maybe you can unload Stackhouse somewhere.
Disclaimer: It’s not a great deal, but it’s better than the one proposed. Anyone know if Dallas has the picks to trade or whether Stackhouse has any trade value?
Re: Dallas & Picks
They’d be in the same boat as the Lakers, as they traded two 1st Rounders in the Kidd deal – 2008 & (presumably) 2010.
The earliest 1st Round Pick they can trade is 2012, and I don’t know if teams can trade picks that far into the future.
crazy - why?

Bad deal for you guys
but great for the Mavs.
But for what its worth, I’m sure the Mavs offer of Stack and Bass maybe their first offer, but not their final offer. You never start with your top offer. I find it hard to pry artest away without getting Thomas… so expect Devon George’s, Jone’s and Magloire’s names + picks to be brought up in some sort of deal.
I think the Kings are going to wait out what happens with Odem, and go from there bc Odem > Stack + Bass all day today, tomorrow, and forever.
I agree with that Toddy
Starting a dialogue is how most trades get done. I’m not sure if that’s true of Petrie though as he often says that trade talks heat up within the last 24 hours. (I think he’s lying, but given lack of information on Petrie it’s hard to say.)

Yeah, still trying to lowball it.
Somehow I get the feeling that some of the rumors such as marion’s availbility or Odom’s have probably been nothing more than rumors if this is a confirmed ‘opportunity’. If Dallas thought we had a worthwhile offer on the table, or good possibility thereof I don’t think they’d have offered such a crap deal.
Please explain this to me...
Artest has an expiring contract….
What’s the point in trading him unless we take one or two GOOD players?
There’s no point getting expiring contracts for an expiring contract. It’s probably better to let his contract expire and then try to sign a good Free Agent. The only logic of doing this is:
1) to weaken our team and get a better pick and
2) Test Bass and see if he’s good enough to be resigned.
I’d hate to see Stackhouse stealing minutes from Salmons, Cisco and Douby. If you do this trade, please release stack.
Expiring Contracts
There’s about a 1% chance that Petrie trades Artest to “get a better pick”, so unless he thinks that Bass is a series piece of the future, the only real reasons to get back Expiring Contracts for Artest are:
A) To dump another contract (K9, SAR, etc.)
or
B) If he thinks that the rest of the team will develop better without Artest.
I don’t believe “B” to be a real option (at least not until the Trade Deadline approaches), so that leaves us with “A”. If Artest isn’t towing a bad contract out of town, then I think GP would rather just let him play the season out, whether anyone likes it or not.
I agree for the most part.
Either we’re shedding more salary, or we’re trading for picks/potential. Salmons/Cisco can handle the 3 for our rebuilding situation.
Breaking News: New offer from Dallas
The new trade would look like this:
Sacramento sends Artest to Dallas
Dallas takes a dump on the front steps of Arco
Experts agree that this new offer is much better than the original offer of Bass and Stack.
Never forget: I am a complete idiot

Hahahaha.
Thanks for the entertaining comment, I was almost in tears.
Is there corn in the poop?
Corn is highly valuable these days ya know.
Kevin Pritchard has Chuck Norris tied up in the trunk of his car.
Additionally
How much poop? Is this Cuban taking a dump on the front steps of Arco? I bet he can drop some bigguns.
Or when you say “Dallas takes a dump” – are we talking about the entire city? The trade becomes that much more tempting.
Ok, I think I’m done now.

No good
Mama Maloof will offer the poop a long term deal, it won’t happen and then the sh*t will really hit the fan.

still can't believe
that trade. I understand it, I just can’t believe it. Denver is going to have an ugly team next year. They will, however, have exciting games with Phoenix.

Camby-Man
Has been one of my favorite fantasy players for a couple of years now.
A lonely Kings fan in a sea of gold and purple...
Fantasy players and basketball players who fit the system
are entirely 2 different things. I don’t think Camby would be as good a fit here as some think.

?
Beno, Martin, Artest, Miller, Camby? That’s a hell of a lineup. That’s a man’s lineup. That said, monstruous on paper, the chemistry might be weird. Camby’s work ethic is on par with Millers (right?), so if both decided to take a night off, the Kings will eat it. That said, if both decide to have a monster night (20 20s each), the other team will get blown out the gym. Anyway, it’s all a theoretical discussion that doesn’t even matter.

Camby's a terrible perimeter defender
Or at least that’s Jeremy’s opinion of Pickaxe and Roll. But since Miller has no ability to guard PF’s either I find it difficult to imagine the Kings improve defensively if Miller or Camby can’t guard perimeter PF’s.

ahhhh,
I was misinformed. For some reason I thought he was a terrific perimeter defender… but I guess that’s just the OGKMart.

Personally
I don’t even want the Artest for Jost Howard trade let alone this one. Josh is overrated in my opinion and I am not sure if he’s a good fit for the Kings anyway
He can shoot, and he looks great in a suit. Hey, everybody - It's REGGIE TIME!
Best Chance with Mavs
is if someone spikes Cuban’s drink at a party and he ends up offering Dirk, Howard and Terry for Miller, Artest, Douby, Williams, SAR and K9.
