Bulls fan here, 3-way trade proposal
Hi everyone, I'm a Chicago fan from BlogABull, where we've been running too many trade proposals over the past few months.
Nevertheless, I have one that a lot of people have found interesting. When I emailed out Bulls beat reporter, his only qualm was that he felt the Kings were slightly shorted.
Here's what I am proposing as an initial template for the deal (I'm looking for Sacramento feedback an idea of your mindset).
Here's my initial proposal:
CHI gets:
Odom
Kenny Thomas
SAC gets:
Nocioni (very good small forward, slightly large contract tho)
Gooden (1 year left on deal)
Farmar
LAL gets:
Hinrich
Artest
Now, I've heard that the Lakers have this love affair with Farmar, but because the contracts in deal like this are so large, the 125% rule makes this deal easily amendable. You could interchange Farmar and Fisher without a problem too. Also, of course picks and such (like the Joe Smith exception) could be exchanged to sweeten the deal, but at least its a template for a deal.
Is this something you guys would be even the slighest bit interested in? if I offered the choice of any of the following (I kno some are retarted, but I'm just trying to provide some options):
Drew Gooden, Andres Nocioni, Kirk Hinrich, Larry Hughes, Jordan Farmar, Derek Fisher, Luke Walton, or Trevor Ariza
Is there a package in their that you guys like? It seems to me that all 3 teams here are dealing with the issue of trying to trade guys whose stocks are all low (ie artest is a headcase in the last year of his deal), so they seem to match up well then.
Let me have it, lol.

No thank you.
Nocioni’s a bit old for a rebuilding team, and not enough of an upgrade on Salmons/Garcia. (Deng would be, but that’s beside the point.) The Kings could have had Gooden multiple times in Bibby-Cavs dealings, and have filled the PF hole elsewhere. No point guards (maybe Farmar, certainly not Hinrich) needed.

I agree with TZ. Nocioni isn’t a big enough upgrade to warrant taking on that contract. As it stands now the Kings aren’t willing to clog up there salary as they will be under the cap for the almighty 2010 FA (where none of the superstars will sign with us).

Yeah, I like the three way idea but...
is Chicago really going to give up Hinrich, Noccioni and Gooden for Odom and K-9? And this deal really helps out the Lakers, they get a starting point and Artest and they only have to give up Farmar and Odom. Keep thinking on this one, if the Lakers are involved, they need to take back Thomas and his bloated contract or Hughes and his bloated contract or the Bulls and Kings will begin looking like the Grizz.

from what I've heard
Chi-town would be all too happy too get rid of Nocioni’s and Hinrich’s contracts. Have you seen them? I like the skills of both players, but not for that kind of money.

No thanks
Nocioni isn’t enticing enough, along with Farmar, to make the Kings do this deal. The Kings replace a crappy overpaid marginal talent with another? No thanks. (I’m on record for saying I prefer Wally’s world and a future 1st for Artest/k9.)

The length of
Nocioni’s contract is a deal breaker as far as I’m concerned. Could care less about Gooden or Farmar, but they’d be ok if they came with a first rounder. Any contract longer than Thomas’ had better attached to a player we really want.

Luxury tax
Hinrich’s deal runs to the end of time/the Iraq war, so the Lakers would be taking an enormous, gigantic luxury tax hit for a decent to good point guard, and that’s assuming they don’t re-sign Artest. I don’t see it.

I like Gooden and Farmar
The Kings need a solid backup PG…I’m not convinced Singletary will be the greatest backup PG, just based on summer-league games. Gooden is a nice 10/10 guy who could either play SF or be put in the PF position, eventually being phased out. Nocioni’s contract is expiring, as well. Why don’t you guys like this deal?
We’d get a young, long term back-up PG and a good rebounder in Gooden, or we could just use him as another expiring contract along with Nocioni. ...Plus we’d get rid of K-9’s contract.

Uhm
Nocioni’s got 5 years left on his deal. Where did you get the idea that his deal is expiring? (Gooden’s deal is expiring, but Noc’s is not.)

Let me put it this way
That contract was offered by Chris Wallace, upon which Paxson matched. So, the guy who gave Cardinal a contract was applauded by the guy who was willing to pay Ben Wallace $15 million this year.

A Laker perspective
ChrisG,
The 3 team deal might work for the Lakers. If it were offered to Sactown, they should consider it seriously as well. The Kings may not get an offer this good in the real world.
However, Chicago may not need Sactown to complete their deal: the Lakers might be willing to consider Odom for Gooden and Nocioni. The Lakers already depend on Farmar in tandem with Fisher. Nocioni has a declining contract and might be a perfect long term tandem combo veteran/mentor with Ariza at the 3. Gooden has an expiring and could more than replace Turiaf as a big for this year.
There might be good chemistry for the Lakers with Nocioni—who would be a much lower risk than Ron (Will?). I think that Odom would be a perfect fit for Chicago in many ways. Worst case, he gives liquidity with an expiring $14.5 million. Best case, Chicago keeps him, but still gets cap relief by possibly negotiating a lower salary for next year.
The Lakers are not really ready to trade until they sign Sasha. Because Lamar almost redeemed himself last year, he is much loved in Lakerland—he is not a player they really want to trade, but a player they probably should trade (he doesn’t fit as a 3), and they will need salary for Bynum next year.
