Kings come to terms with Bobby Brown
Interesting, I guess Petrie, et al weren't overwhelmed with Singletary's work in Vegas.
I had heard Brown was one of the more surprising players in Vegas. So this could be very good news for our very shaky PG situation.

Hey Geoff, why'd you sign Bobby Brown?

Did we get a morality clause?
The last thing we need is Bobby to start smacking around Whitney again. Then Ron would have to kill his wife to keep up. Maybe he and Reggie will start their own R&B duet.

Okay I'm good with this
I have no problem with Singletary or Brown having to earn anything come training camp. It wouldn’t bother me if both were on the 15 man roster. Is there some thing wrong with having 2 cheap 3rd string PG options on the roster behind your starter? This could be a win win and at worst is a no lose position consider the salary structure of this team already.

Singletary
Singletary isn’t a lock to make the roster. Brown’s deal is guaranteed for the first year, player option for the second year. At least we have something new to talk about. I’m still waiting for the Artest trade.

Was gonna FanPost this here.
As a Hornets fan, I am pretty much in rage right now. We had an opportunity to let Jannero Pargo walk by signing up Brown to be third string. Ugh. Ugh. Ughhhhhhh.
I don’t know how much he will help you guys. I watched pretty much all his summer league games this year, and my overall impression was that he’d make a very capable third string point, and maybe, maybe challenge to be a back-up.
But, um, yeah… thanks a lot, you big cash-wielding, free-spending jerks :P

Even though the Kings are fairly near the luxury tax
They will still be under the tax by close to 250 K. So that isn’t that bad considering their roster situation.

I'll trust Petrie on this one
He seems to always find diamonds in the rough (phrase used loosley) at the back-up PG position, ie: Darrick Martin, Tony Delk, Anthony Johnson the first time around, Bobby Jackson, Damon Jones, Eddie House, Beno Udrih. You could possibly throw in Ronnie Price depending on what he does in the next few years, or Tyrus Edney if you consider him a back-up instead of the starter he had to be.
Let’s home this is another one.

Thank you Geoff
Brown performed quite well in the summer league. He shot better than Singletary (who didn’t?) and had a league high 10 assists in one game. Petrie just filled a void without spending much. You never know what is going to happen with injuries, especially with the Kings, so it is good to atleast have a little insurace at the pg spot.
by Ball in Cup on Jul 23, 2008 8:01 PM PDT 0 recs
Marc Stein has some good words about Brown as well.
He came back as perhaps the best point guard here, outplaying multiple first-round picks in head-to-head matchups (Memphis’ Mike Conley, Charlotte’s D.J. Augustin and San Antonio’s George Hill)...

The Kings are at Artest, Thomas, Miller, Martin, Singletary, Ewing Jr, Thompson, Hawes, Salmons, Udrih, Garcia, Williams, Abdur-Rahim, Brown, Moore and Douby I think are all the guys on the roster with guaranteed or partially guaranteed money. So actually that’s 16 players.

I could be wrong but
I believe Brown’s contract would only be valid if he makes the opening day roster. If we cut him before then we only pay him a prorated portion for the preseason and training camp. Which if Paul Shirley’s book is accurate, is like $5000 or something. Plus no cap hit.
I should have know when I saw the corn rows. We can always spot our own Brad.
by Muff209 on Jul 23, 2008 10:26 PM PDT 0 recs
Saw him in Fullerton
I had a chance to see Bobby play once in Fullerton in his senior year and I left the arena thinking there was no chance he wouldn’t be drafted that year (2007 draft). The Kings are lucky to pick up a player that can just flat-out score when he’s put into the game. I didn’t really see him as a PG when he was in Fullerton, he was more the scoring guard, but I think he could be a good guy off the bench in a pinch, and should actually give Douby a run for his money than anyone else on the team.
by The Ghost of Dick Bavetta on Jul 23, 2008 10:29 PM PDT 0 recs
Douby is a proven scorer
who showed all what he can do in the summer league. But how does Brown compare to Douby as far as ball handling and passing/assists? I think Douby is the better 2. Brown might be the better PG. Douby needs to show he can drive and dish. If he can do that his value will climb rapidly and he may end up a starter somewhere.

Maybe
They can play both Brown and Douby in the same lineup off the bench. Could be fun stuff. One guy running like a madman and the other guy spotting up and shooting bombs.

I'm Glad to See Geoff is Listening
Yeah, I know, a few blowhards here just think all I talk about is Ron Artest, Ron Artest, Ron Artest, but for those who actually read the crap I write, you’ll find I’have been talking about the Kings needing to upgrade at point guard/combo guard, that penciling in Singletary for 15 minutes a game was too optimistic, etc. Looks like Petrie agrees.
What’s even better is that Petrie also agrees with my approach to continually try to upgrade the team. He’s definitely not a tanker.
Speaking of Artest, HoopsWorld has an interesting take on nothing happening with Artest until Luol Deng finds a new home.
by coolcatreportdotcom on Jul 23, 2008 10:42 PM PDT 0 recs
You have been vidicated!!!
Who knew the guy with Petries ear would be CC. The Kings are now improved dramatically by signing an undrafted player who spent last season in Berlin (a hot bed for combo guard prospects). Maybe this is why no one reads the “crap I(you) write”.

Well, I'll try to explain it to you
But I’m going to have to stick with grownup talk.
Petrie is smart because he knew after the Vegas fiasco he at least needed a challenger at the 1, and what he really could use is a combo guard. But, the dude has no bread, so he’s got to try to find Beno 2, a cheap sub-$500k guy who might actually have some talent.
Ewing has some athleticism, but he’s a long shot to stick around unless some bodies are moved. And Sean Singletary just joined him on the bubble.
These guys are second round picks, so the odds are long anyway. Believe me, nobody’s going to hold it against Petrie if JT becomes a stud and Singletary and Ewing don’t.
Meanwhile, you can find a lot of conflicted opinions on this board if you look hard enough. Guys ripping Petrie in one breath and praising him in the next. Guys flipflopping even on Artest. And there are actually some folks here that consider the pros and cons of both sides of every story.

doesn't explain anything I was referencing
I was focusing more on an ironic twist of details, which while humorous I was hoping would give you an extra insight that maybe you’d find interesting. Now that you’ve flumoxed the statement past contrite quotables and into repetitive namesaking (not really of ponderous quality), I’m going to ignore your explanation of why Petrie signing a talented player for a little bit of money was an intelligent move (yeah, I kind of already figured that out), the description of why Ewing and Singletary don’t have a guaranteed situation(that has already been given numerous times from the very people you call silly), and some superfluous points merely trying to sarcastically point out that people have diverse opinions, only to focus on the crux of your reply. Oh, right, there’s nothing else. Your reply was not, in fact, any actuality of reply.
I was originally humorizing an ironic situation, which in your daftness of presupposed attack and therefore implicit counterattack you seemed to have missed out on. In fact, your evidence merely ties in to the very claim I was making. Good job there, buddy.

In this thread alone you’ve called people blowhards, tankers, cult leaders with followers and sudden converts, and told IW to get a mind.
And considering the snarkfest you posted on the GP vacation thread, I think it can safely be asserted that you almost never come in peace. You attack people, then when they respond in kind you attempt to take the high road.
And one more thing:
