Meet Bobby Brown
Bobby Brown, former Cal State Fullerton Titan. Douby II? Ronnie Price The Sequel? I don't know. But I know this is a highlight reel of the time Bobby Brown dropped 47 points in college.
My man Nate Jones interviewed Brown last summer. An excerpt:
NJ: Is there a team you'd prefer to play for right now?
BB: Phoenix or Golden State.
NJ: So you like that up-tempo style that a lot of the teams in the league are currently playing?
BB: Oh yeah.
ESPN's Marc Stein, a Fullerton alum, has been a big Bobby Brown booster through the last few years. He reports on the signing with much more vigor than most $450,000 contracts deserve.
Israel's Maccabi Tel-Aviv -- perenially one of the strongest teams in Europe -- has been pursuing Brown aggressively this month, but sources said Brown was on the verge of accepting a multiyear deal "in the millions" from Spanish giant Barcelona this week when Sacramento increased its bid.
Kings > Europe > Hawks.
Is Brown a replacement for Sean Singletary, who didn't close summer league very well? The roster is clearly not yet set, with trades anticipated. But ...
Guaranteed Contracts
Kevin Martin, Francisco Garcia, Beno Udrih, Ron Artest, Quincy Douby, John Salmons, Jason Thompson, Spencer Hawes, Mikki Moore, Brad Miller, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Kenny Thomas, Shelden Williams, Bobby Brown.
That's 14, which leaves room for potentially one more player. The Kings in the past have preferred to leave one spot open. However, with the new D-League team in Reno, and Geoff Petrie's reportedly close relationship with the general manager, Sacramento could carry 15 and keep one or two in Reno.
Singletary or Brown would be prime candidates for that duty.

I think it’s possible, particularly in light of Ewing Jr’s comments from Theus that he could make the roster with a strong training camp. Or, both he, or 1, could make the team and be assigned to the D-League roster and called up when the team has an injury and needs extra players for depth. That I could see being possible. After all, having Brown, Singletary and Ewing Jr on the roster doesn’t hurt the team greatly money wise, (about 1.3 million combined for all 3—that’s about as cheap as it gets), and having 1 of them break out and be an effective player would be the obvious ultimate bonus of that.
That being said You’re including Artest, Thomas, and Abdur Rahim as parts of the active roster, and I just don’t see that happening.

Read this blurb on ESPN
Seems to suggest that Brown was wanted by multiple teams. I know Carl is angry at Petrie sitting on his hands, but that seems fairly proactive to give a guy a contract for 2 years based on Summer League isn’t it?

He's got nice shooting form
Thanks for the video.
and I love all those assist he averaged in summer league. I think its great we’ll have good competition at training camp. It makes good players better.
I doubt that Ewing or the loser of the back-up PG competion remain on the active roster unless some roster space is cleared up. The loser of the back-up PG i think will almost certainly be cut or probably sent to Reno to get more playing time.
Unless there’s a serious roster shake-up.

Just throwing this out
but assuming RA, SAR and K-9 are gone.
That leaves us (just assume this is Theus’ thinking)
C: BMiller
PF: MM
SF: Salmons
SG: KM
PG: Beno
with minutes needed for:
Cisco
SHawes
JThompson
SWilliams
Douby
+ (whoever wins the Back-up PG)
Thats 11 deep already who NEED minutes not counting on what/who we get back in some hypothetical Artest trade.
Once again I advocate getting something (anything really) for MM. Preferably a young SG(?)) or just expiring baggage we don’t need to worry about playing time for – and hopefully some type of pick.
Anyway, young players need to play. I’d send them to the NBADL and use whatever veteran we get back in those deals as ‘end of the bench’ guys.

I Know
KK has made this point in his thread about ‘too deep’ and not enough minutes
He’s so correct its worth repeating maybe.
Also, you think we’ve got problems, watch the discontent bloom this year in Portland as all those media hyped young players want playing time. See me in January or so – it’ll go Ok early.
And no, I’m not saying they’re no good, I’m saying – who really knows? Watching the hawks slowly fall back to pieces because no one is ‘getting thier respect’...

Dude,
I don’t have your credibility/contract knowledge so I can’t get away with it, plus, nobody likes a tipsy woman…and I have a pretty weak alcohol threshold. Sometimes I’m just silly/stupid, it probably has more to do with how many Twix’s I’ve eaten that day. I don’t go out of my way to find them but I have a co-worker who makes the Costco trek to bring back a big ol’ bag of them every couple of weeks. For the record, she went to Costco yesterday. I call her the co-dependant enabler. Of course, I say that with love and not as an excuse. : )
Which should help to explain my multiple PUDDING posts this evening (giving full credit to section214 for the inspiration).

Thank God
it’s not the other way around, as she would not get far on my looks and her mom’s sense of humor (kidding, honey, kidding – now put down the rolling pin!).
My daughter and her friends just get random sometimes. “Pudding!” “Noodles!” I swear, sometimes it’s like living with Jerry.

Agreed
I think the Artest situation has to be resolved first, to know where the roster stands afterwards, but using your assumption that it does happen first, I agree that Mikki Moore is the next player who needs to be shopped.
The suggested Orlando package of Reddick & Cook is decent, and I’d also be perfectly happy with an expiring contract (preferably with a 2nd, but not needed) to free up those minutes.
SAR’s medical retirement status will be up in the air for a while, which should allow for plenty of time to know whether or not it would be worth trying to get Miller’s 2009 salary off the books via an Expiring Contract or not (no need to rush if it won’t get the Kings under the Cap anyway).
I think the most frustrating thing is that Artest’s status is the linchpin . . . nothing else of significance (no offense to Bobby Brown) can happen until that is resolved.

No doubt on Artest is the lynchpin

Ehh..
Moore for younger players? I think all you’d get in return for Moore is negative value. When Moore was signed, he was laughing all the way to the bank, because;
1 – His whole career has been as a bench warmer and he was practically guaranteed a starting spot to fill the starting PF void on our roster.
2 – He was offered like a 6 mil/ season contract, just because of one stint in the playoffs, playing along-side Jason Kidd.
Moore has such a huge contract, and sorry, I haven’t been sold on Moore since he came here. In fact, I was pissed that Petrie offered that big contract to an aging, bottom of the barrel FA. The season after next, Moore’s contract will expire and I’ll say good riddance to him and his ridiculous contract that Petrie signed him to.

Send Mikki, Thomas, and Artest to the d-league.
Mikki can dominate, thomas can get minutes, and artest might be able to win a championship!

I think Singletary=Ronnie Price part deux (best case scenario)
As for Bobby Brown, I’d rather have him on the roster than Singletary. Singletary didn’t really impress me much, considering his summer league play. He’s quick, but throw up wild shots… and this is against the summer league. If he were to play like that in the league, he’d get burned night in and night out.
Brown, on the other hand, has been getting rave reviews to the point where ESPN’s arc Stein said Brown outplayed 1st round picks Connely, Augustin, and Hill. That’s only an encouraging sign.
by CloudyEyes on Jul 24, 2008 2:59 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
The Great Thing
about highlight reels is ALL the shots go in.
Singletary needs some seasoning. He’s not going to get it on the big club, so D-League would be a good spot for him to work on his game. Kind of like Summer League 2.

Opportunity missed
Looks like Singletary failed to impress, or he was just too ordinary vs. Brown who surprised everybody in Vegas. Singletary the next ronnie price? More like the next Jason Hart if he doesnt show us something.
