Why not aim for Andrew Bynum?
Hey I've been hearing alot about a possible Artest trade to L.a. for Odom... I was just wondering why we don't try to get Andrew Bynum since we are looking to build for the future? He has shown that he can grow into a great NBA player if he is able to bounce back from the injury. I just think if we couldnt get both players why not aim for Bynum over Odom since Odom isn't in our plans for the future? I could be completely wrong about everything, but I just wanna know what everyone else thinks

This is about as swell as trading Artest/Miller for Moon/Bosh
I just don’t see the Lakers giving up Bynum under any circumstances unless he can no longer play. If that is the case who would want Bynum?

untouchable
I’m pretty sure Bynum has been deemed untouchable by LA. Good big guys, centers especially, are extremely hard to come by. Throw in the fact that he is still very young, there’s no way they would trade him.

and
hes still on his rookie contract too so hes cheap, theres no way he leaves LA via trade

i'll play along
because i presume you think Kobe for artest doesn’t work, i thougtht I would find a trade the Lakers would make involving Bynum and works under cap rules… Bynum, Radmonovich, Mihm, and Walton for KMartin, Artest, and Hawes… gee that would be a fun Kings team to watch!

I'd only so that...
if we could include Miller and Beno for Kobe and Farmer. Then maybe we could also sign Kwame to a one-year deal and send him over for Gasol!

The same Andrew Bynum
that the Lakers wouldn’t part with for Jason Kidd? That Andrew Bynum?

Hmm...
Couldn’t they have had Garnett for Bynum too?

NO no nooooo
Andrew Bynum is one max-extension from putting on 25 pounds and becoming an overpaid bench player. This guy played less than 50 games in high school because he was always overweight. His next contract better come with a box of twinkies. I want no part of it.

Come on
A lot can change since high school. Look at me. In high school I was a little dorky, not especially athletic or gifted with the ladies. But now…OK, point taken.

Serisouly though
How many people can say, “I am in such better shape now than I was when I was 17”. Especially people that were top professional sport prospects. Bynum has a great start to last season because he felt he had something to prove. Once he gets that contract, its relaxing time.
Let us not forget, his know injury was supposed to keep him ot 6 weeks, then 8-10, then until the playoffs, then until the finals, now he might be realy in time for next year. I’m just not buying what he is selling.

i agree with you
he’s lazy. the year before last year, his production slipped after a fast start because he (bynum) ate fast food every meal (courtesy of the lakers broadcasters) which also might have been the cause of his injuries in that year as well. he probably worked hard this year because he wanted to prove to kobe he belongs. even without the injury concern, i wouldn’t touch him. he has very low basketball IQ (see the couple of quotes last year when he was coming up with excuses at the end of the game that didn’t match up with the actual play). the biggest deterrent i have against him is that he believes that he is better than he actually is. (i.e. more than likely not to work for anything). he’s a good rebounder, and had quickness against bigs, but nothing else stands out. i might be bias, but i’d prefer a high basketball IQ player and someone that isn’t lazy.

"Seriously though"
OK, you lost me right there.
You do make a great point. A lot more has been made of his small accomplishments, especially when compared to the lack of fanfare that Kevin Martin has received for his strides. The fortunes of geography and playing for a winning team, I suppose.

I've never gotten
What all that talk of him being LA’s ‘savior’ next year was based on. A few good months?
He may turn out Ok or he may be Kwame 2. I’m curious why he still isn’t working out. That knee must have benn much worse than earlier admitted.
A 7 ft guy with a tendancy to weight and a bad knee? (uh oh)
He may end being great but ya gotta wonder.

Flashes
I think that talk is because he showed flashes of real ability last year (before the injury), and they almost won the Championship without him. He’s basically an experienced lottery pick joining an NBA Finals roster. I think they believe that they would have had a better chance at winning it all had he not been hurt, and the way he was playing they may be right. It’s just the idea of adding to what they already have, without giving anything up for it (cue Gasol trade comments).
That said, everything you say could end up being true. He could play one more strong year (possibly even hurt), just to get his max extension and then let it all go. Here’s to hoping it happens that way (and cripples LAL’s salary cap in the process, I’m sure you’ll be down with that possibility)!

what a mixed up NBA fantasy world we live in
I’ll pass on Bynum because we don’t need another big man project, especially one with questionable motivation coming off of knee surgery. As for the suggestions that Bynum is untouchable and the Lakers weren’t willing to give him up for KG or Kidd, my mind is boggled. I would tend to agree with Kobe’s assessment (“Andrew f*cking Bynum? Ship his ass out!”). Let’s play a game of Virtual Mitch. Should I trade my backup center – with half of one season of quality basketball and an arthroscopic surgery under his belt – and spare parts for an allstar-caliber player (Artest)? Or should I hold out to give up my incredibly versatile and polished star forward for the aforementioned player and take back $7.5M worth of K9? Hmm. The power of the NBA hype machine be mighty.

Interesting
Assuming Odom has let the FO know that he wants to stick around for less money, it’s an interesting question as to which is better for the franchise moving forward:
Artest & Odom
Artest & Bynum
Odom & Bynum
That answer should be all LAL needs to make their decision.
Obviously, if Odom has given no such indication, then there might be a pressing need to get something for him before he has the chance to leave. This doesn’t explain Artest specifically, though, since he also could leave after the season, but it could be one reason that Odom is available (that, or his alleged “choking” in the playoffs).

I think it's more like...
Odom & Bynum
Artest & Bynum
Odom & What Bynum can fetch LA on the trade block
I’m pretty sure that Artest is NOT the best that LA could do if they decided to move Bynum.

Besides
If we picked up Bynum, where would we find that needed playing time for Shelden (Mr.) Parker?

according to you
we should bury Bynum on the depth chart behind our current starters so we could increase our win total from 41 to 43.
What’s that you say? Statement ridiculously taken out of context and over-exaggerated? How quaint.
