Should the Maloofs fire Peaches?
(From the FanPosts. - TZ)
All in all, a pretty funny call to get rid of our favorite Kings announcer.
I like how the guy blames Napear for everything from missed free throws to bad karma in general.
A sampling: "He may have a strong play-by-play voice and be able to rattle stats off a sheet with the best in the industry, but he is a blight when it comes to the sports karma of my favorite basketball team.
Knowing the high regard in which Mr. Napear is held here, I humbly offer this up for comment. The Maloofs are on the clock. Let the Peaches Harvest begin.

No No No
Although I found that to be an interesting read, there is NO way the Kings should get rid of Napear.
People bitch about him WAY to often (ofeten for his radio antics), but the fact of the matter is that he is a damn fine color announcer. As someone who buys the League Pass every year and watches every night, I honestly feel that he is one of the best color men in the league. He isnt a “Homer” on anywhere near the level that the annoucers for Boston, Portland, Chicago (just to name a few, ill spare you their announcers names) are on a nightly basis. Its not even close!!!!
Napear, Gary Gerould and Jerry R (How are people not calling for his head first????) are Sacramento Kings by every definition of the term.
So good read…But I think the Maloofs should figure out a way to get Miller, Artest (once again, if we get good peices back) and The fat-ass who wears the Kings jersey and tries to hype the crowd at halftime outta town before they think about movin Napear (Or Peaches, as he’s sometimes called)

Color announcer?
Negative. He is the play-by-play guy.
Bigger point though – Napear is almost tolerable on the Kings broadcasts. Now if KHTK would pull him from the drive-time radio show, I might actually listen occasionally.

Fair Enough-
Play-by-play guy works better!
I love listenin to him on KHTK..He completely shuts people down and hans up on them, which I find to be hillarious. Most (Not ALL) the time the callers deserve it. Whats not to love about that? Its essentially the same type of thing that goes on around STR when people bring up stupid “Sheit” and guys like Pookey & Section shut-em down.

Except for the fact
That Napear rarely knows what he’s talking about, even when it comes to the NBA. You’d think a guy that watched the league every night would have a better base of knowledge.
Sure he shuts people down, but he sounds as stupid as hell doing it. That type of radio show is geared to the lowest common denominator. Congrats for enjoying it.

Ummm
Thanks for the Congrats,...Champ!
I disagree with you, however, on the basis that Napear “rarely knows what he’s talking about.”. In fact, the notion that he isnt a “homer”, makes it even more apparent to me that he is knowledgable aboiut the game to criticize the Kings when its necessary to do so. More than I can say for other team’s guys’.I’m not sure if that “guy who watched the league ever night” was a shot at myself, or Napear, but its prety off-base regardless.
Say what you want about the man and his knowledge of the game. But the fact that he has been doing it for a LOONNGG time and that he got picked up by a Nationaly Syndicated Radio show to cover for Jim Rome (on more than one occasion) speaks volumnes about his radio personality and knowledge.
But then again, I understand that he is somewhat of a polarizing figure..So it is what it is

Gotta disagree with you that Napear doesn't know what he's talking about
On the subject of the Kings (which is the primary source of 1140 4-7 pm chatter) he won’t touch certain subjects because he’s close to the team, or he just doesn’t want to. He loves to act like an insider, and then act like being an insider means he doesn’t have to indulge anything.
I wouldn’t mind him as a play by play guy because that’s really what he does best, but his radio show needs to end.

Its essentially the same type of thing that goes on around STR when people bring up stupid "Sheit" and guys like Pookey & Section shut-em down.
Well, except for the fact that Peaches rants/hangs up on his callers without providing one lick of NBA knowledge, and you know, section and Pookey can generally back up their point of view.
Whether you agree with it or not.

Peaches is Sacramento Sports' equivelant of Bill O'Reilly
O’Reilly a messenger of moral conservatism.
Peaches a messenger of Maloof Entertainments

Maloofs, NO
KHTK, YES.
To touch on something said above, Grant’s show does attract a lot of “Lowest Common Denominator” listeners. This is where a majority of the callers come from, which is in turn why they “deserve” to be hung up on.
If his show was better suited for open debate, and attracted better callers, then he couldn’t hang up on them without looking like a jerk. I’m not saying he dumbs down his show to do this, but it’s a vicious cycle any way you slice it.
by smgmatt on Jul 25, 2008 10:31 AM PDT 0 recs
I'd be fine with both
I’m not saying he should be fired, but I wouldn’t exactly be disappointed. I like Gary Gerould and even Koz more on PBP. And I find myself enjoying Sportsline when it’s Lamb and Jason Ross. But at the same time, I understand why he has his job. He and Jerry have good chemistry together. And when Grant is reigned in on the radio (see Jim Riome show fill-ins) he can be funny.

Fire him; hire me
It would be awesome. I’m a 4.0 college kid looking to major in some form of broadcast journalism. What hype it would create! To have an 18 year old on your broadcast team? Your target is male teens and young adults. What better way to attract them than to have someone who can relate with them?
I’ve ran my own FM radio station for a few years…I’d love to take over for you guys….

hmmmm...
your sig line doesn’t bode well for your chances.
Also, hate to dapper your pride, but hiring a no-name kid (no offense intended, that’s what you’d appear as in the media) would not create any hype. At all.
Target is not male teens and young adults… in fact, most hardcore basketball fans (the kind of fans that would still pay attention to a, let’s just say, small-market team on a bit of a losing streak) are in an older age group that familiarize themselves more with the days of Magic, or Jordan than now. Just saying… one of the big rules of journalism… Know Thy Demographic. But hell, I’m telling a journalism student about journalism… right quick and put my foot in my mouth.
Best of luck with the career, and here’s to hoping you eventually find your way to the Kings broadcast booth.

The sig is a nod to the avatar, S. A. Smith, who quite frankly IS the worst commentator ever.
With that said, the post was a little tongue-in-cheeky. The Kings would never hire me, though I do think it would bring some publicity. I’m actually considering joining the armed forces in one facet or another, and jump-starting my career by doing AFN broadcasting.
As far as the demographics go, I just did a quick Google search, and it yielded the following data from an older poll:
18-24: 15%
25-34: 21.8%
35-44: 21.9%
45-54: 18.2%
55-64: 10.2%
65+: 12.8%
So in essence, you have a point. The two key areas are 25-34 and 35-44, both of whom would fondly remember the Bird/Magic/Jordan days.
Thanks again though-and trust me, I’d be happy to be in ANY NBA broadcast booth, not just the Kings’. ;)

Not to argue
I’m 28, and Magic was a rookie beginning his career the same year was born. I’m not exactly sure how much I remember about the actual Magic era as it happened.

Isn't that esentially what Carmchael Dave did?
Also, hate to dapper your pride, but hiring a no-name kid
Kids and no-names work cheap, and isn’t that what corporate America is all about?
God help us all when the corporate gods decide to offshore that job to Bangalore, India or Manila, Phillipines.
Disclaimer: I am not anti-Asian, I am anti-sourcing American jobs. Plus, I have had too many bad experiences with corporate America’s off-shored tech support staffs,

I feel ya, section
im 21 and its been happening to me, its just surreal. That being said, I LOVE GRANT NAPEAR’s play by play and miss his trademark lines(is it just me, or has it he stopped using quite a few of them). But i could do without Jerry and all of his Jerryisms that riddle our broadcasts eg. Biblicious, the tazmanian slovenian and just his fumbling-bumbling style. but then again Jerry has seniority over his bosses, who are they to fire him.

I doubt that we'll ever have to deal with
Bibbilicious ever again.
Why fire Grandpa when you can just keep firing the kids whose nicknames he develops and overuses will be gone in a few years either way.
Peaches annoys me (not that anyone else should care), and Jerry…I dunno…he’s Papa. Or your favorite uncle who makes bad jokes but you love him anyway.
As you said, maybe some of us just love him because he’s been here since the beginning of the Sacramento era.
Besides, he likes pudding and so do I.

Rid of Napear? Never
I remember calling in the Brian Wheeler show, you remember the one that had maybe 10-15 minutes to let everybody call in to say whatever they wanted. Well i’d call in and make fun of Grant Napear because of his beef with Don and Mike. I really cant remember a game without him announcing it, even though he’s some New York city hotshot he is the Kings when it comes to the radio. He always to seem to know what the real climate is for the team because he’s around them so much. Plus its funny to listen to him break down a ridiculous caller and just flat out call him an idiot, just an idiot!

It's hard to dispute completely
But more people here oppose Peachosaurus Rex’s involvment as a “radio host” than they do his play by play.
