Ron Artest set for deal to Rockets
In what had been a quiet offseason, the Rockets are about to make a lot of noise.
In a stunning move designed to push the Rockets from solid playoff team toward legitimate NBA contenders, the Rockets reached agreement Tuesday with the Sacramento Kings to acquire gifted but controversial forward Ron Artest, according to an NBA executive with knowledge of the deal.
The Rockets will give up guard Bobby Jackson, a No. 1 draft pick next season and another player that the individual with knowledge of the trade could not name. Rockets general manager Daryl Morey could not be immediately reached for comment.

I'm a tad surprised by this
But I figured if anything, the Kings would want Aaron Brooks or something. Not Bobby J. Also where is Kenny Thomas going? (If that wasn’t the deal Petrie was after what was it?)
Also, and I hate to mention this, but this could put the Kings over the tax by a few dollars assuming that they don’t let go Singletary or Ewing Jr in the process (highly likely if this deal is of course true).
Lotta questions, but I guess everyone is wrong.

the other player is Donte Green. Finalized on August 14th. GP denies everything. here’s the link

So much for my bitch contest with SB Lol. (I doubt this will make SB very happy though, or Sean Singletary. Then again Bobby could be bought out if this is true too. We’ll see.)

Bobby gives us a veteran backup at the point. Fills a need. IF this deal is real, I would assume no one would bite on K9(Woof!).

It's probably real assuming Sam has it and says it is
I believe it now that Sam says so. Or I believe that the Kings have told him real. I won’t believe it until Geoff officially announces the Press Conference.
Kfan, this is similar to what happened with Indy and Tor during the draft day trade including Jermaine O’Neal, TJ Ford and Roy HIbbert. Because Green can’t be included in a trade after he signs for 30 days, there is no way for them to complete it before August 14th or whatever day Green signed. I’m okay with that as there is time.

If it is part of something bigger I am okay.
But I’d really like to see more happening. It definitely leans toward your expectation of the Kings playing young. We could have a player with less than two years experience at three of our 5 spots. 4 if you count beno as having really only played about one full season.

I don't know what to think yet
I need some time to gather my thoughts but at the top of my head. We got an expiring contract, no log jams on any positions, a nice prospect and a first round pick next year. I’m not saying I love this trade but I gotta look at the positives first.

Still do. But it’s time to move on and wonder where some other players (Particularly Salmons, Moore and Miller) will end up now that this deal is supposedly going down.

And that’s that. (I no longer thought Houston was on the radar because of Morey’s annoucement and felt it was as close to 100% that they weren’t looking to shake up their team. Whoops. That being said I always felt Houston would be a terrific swapping partner for Artest for alot of reasons starting with Yao, McGrady and that’s ignoring his half season of past with RA.

For Artest, this is quite a lot we’re getting here, imho, if Greene is involved. We get a temporary veteran backup in B-Jax, younger, long term help in Greene (who was widely speculated to be drafted about 14th in mock drafts), AND a first round pick. I say this is much much better than just letting Artest go for nothing.
Also, K9’s contract expires before 2010. I’m not sure why some guys are so hooked on absolutely needing to include K9 in every and any kind of Artest deal.

Houston PBP guy is saying it’s a win-win propisition because they’re giving up “nothing” in order to accomplish it. He’s saying it’s surprised that it didn’t include Battier. I don’t really think he understands the Kings have a logjam at SF anyway.
I’m happy with this trade on so many levels, but not taking a player like Battier is a major reason why I’m so ecstatic. Green has upside, and who knows how he will pan out, the Kings get a 1st round pick next year, and they get B-Jax’s expiring contract.
