It's official, Ron Artest is a Rocket
The Rockets officially acquired the mercurial forward Thursday in a blockbuster deal with Sacramento, sending rookie Donté Greene, Bobby Jackson, a 2009 first round pick and cash considerations to the Kings in exchange for the 6-7, 248 pound Artest, along with 2008 draftees Patrick Ewing Jr. and Sean Singletary.

I still think you should hold out for this
one.
What can I say except that my oldest bro’ gets a case every year from me for his bday. He’s arrogant, he’s a bast*rd, and he’s usually right. Plus, he loves the brew.
When you’re right, you’re right. Sometimes that means overlooking a little…ahem…brashness.
And I love my bro to death, even when we disagree.
Although, I may have to consider changing his yearly bday case to the Buttface. ; )

I could care less
About how Bobby plays this season or if he get waived to clear space. I don’t know.
This deal was probably 80% to get Donte Greene. His summer league play (if that merits any amount of consideration about one’s potential)
19% of this was to acquire another asset.
and 1% of this was probably to get his expiring contract. That expiring contract could have been anyone that had an expiring contract. It’s gravy that Jackson was a fan favorite in Sacramento.
I kind of wished the Kings could have also grabbed Aaron Brooks because the Kings were so high on him in last years’ draft instead that 1st rounder.
BOOK IT!

An Artest Return
I think Artest makes a great third option guy and if he came back to Sac after he’d won a championship and after a couple of our younger guys established themselves as marquee players, we’d see a much more subdued less ball hogging Artest. I think Artest convinced himself, with the inspiration of our loquacious coach, that he needed to carry more weight on the team than he really needed to. I bet he florishes in Houston specifically because he will be the third option, maybe even the fourth. I bet Artest would make a great 6th man for Houston. For 25 minutes a game Adelman could let Artest just wreck havok on their oppponents’ second string players. I wish him he best.
by BrooklynFan on Aug 15, 2008 6:55 AM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Just curious...
First and second men are obviously Tracy and Yao, but who is third in fron of Artest? Remember, he is a “Kobe level” talent. I sure dont see him playing second fiddle to anyone else on that team.
As for him being sixth man, good luck with that. Him coming off the bench for 25 minutes only promises 25 minutes of “me-first” attitude and shot selection.
Wait....Why is everybody clapping? Everyone around me is clapping.... I guess I should be clapping too... GO LAKERS!!! I hate living in So Cal

By his own admission
-In a recent interview Ron said:
-He’s willing to do anything to help the Rockets win
-This includes coming off the bench
-This is Tracy and Yao’s team and he’ll do anything those guys ask of him
-He respects Adelman greatly and will do whatever Rick asks of him
In my opinion:
-Ron is susceptible, more than most, to his environment.
-Two very immature Kings coaches asked Ron to carry greater burdens than he was emotionally capable of
-The Rockets have a solid starting five that work well together
-Their bench sucks
-Rick Adelman needs shutdown defense and more points off the bench
-Ron is smart enough to see that he will flourish more as a sixth man on that team than as a starter
-Rick Adelman is smart enough to convince Ron that he will flourish as a sixth man if Ron ends up not being smart enough to figure it out on his own
by BrooklynFan on Aug 16, 2008 8:08 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Adelman can use Battier as his shut down guy off the bench.
I don’t see any way that Artest isn’t the starting 3 when the season opens. Battier is a nice role player, especially on the defensive end, but he is no where near as talented as Artest. Adelman has always liked a tight 8-9 man bench and with T-Mac/Yao injury issues both Battier and Artest are going to start a lot of games. I just don’t see Adelman try to strengthen his bench by bring a 38 minute a game guy off of it instead of starting him, that’s more of a Don Nelson move.
Hot dogs, get your hot dogs.

Manu in San Antonio
That’s how they might use Ron. Whether he starts or not is almost irrelevant. He’ll most likely be on the floor at the end of the game. And in many instances, it could be Yao/Scola/Artest/Battier/McGrady at the end. Battier can hit the three like a two guard, and T-Mac can run the offense, so why not?

That's a pretty scary lineup
Ron and Battier guarding the guys in the perimeter and knowing Yao will be helping at the basket.

Two immature coaches
really had no choice than to ask Ron to pick up his game. When Brad Miller, Beno Udrih, John Salmons and Francisco Garcia are competing to be your third option, do you really want to have to count on those guys to be your SECOND option? I guess we will find out this season.

sac-town has created a terrifying monster in the west by giving artest to t-mac. you’ll be sorry…
by joshhopp on Aug 16, 2008 9:24 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Why would we be sorry?
We were not a playoff team with him. Houston’s success is not really our concern, as we are in the “other” NBA right now.
I think that most of the folks here wish Artest well. Personally, I would love to see an Adelman/Artest vs. Scott/Peja Western Conference Final.
If anyone should be sorry, perhaps it’s the team that could have had Artest several months ago, but they were unwilling to part with Linas Kleiza. Just sayin’…

The only way we'd be sorry
Is if we kept Artest. “Created a terrifying monster” can be interpreted in a number of different ways. If Houston manages to beat the Lakers, you’ll hear nothing but shouts of joy coming from Sacramento.

fair enough
but i didnt want artest to be a nugget, not then and not now. particularly not for LK, that kid is coming up in a big way. I guess I was hoping he would stay on a team where he can’t do much damage. but yeah I can see how kings fans will be happy with the trade. im just shi* scared of houston right now
