Houston's 09 First Round Pick Has Lottery Protections

"According to Petrie, the pick has declining lottery protections for the Rockets. Should Houston fall into the draft lottery (pick Nos. 1-14), it retains the pick next season. The protections decline from there, though specifics of the progression are not known."

If the Rockets end up in

the lottery next season. Letting them keep their pick for one more season is the least we can do, because it will mean that in trading them Artest we sent them the ebola virus, the bird flu, SARS, a pandemic, a dirty nuke, take your pick.

The team won 55 games last year, and they add Artest while giving up only Bobby Jackson(26 games 19 mins 8.8 pts).

Exactly....

even if Yao AND McGrady go down early, they’re still not a lock to be in 1-14 range. We should still expect a pick this year in the mid-to-late 20s, nothing has changed.
