Suffering from Artest withdrawl? Put on a Warriors jersey and read about Stephen Jackson!
The man who finished 120th in FG% last year, the man that finished 20-21 at his position in blocks and rebounds (he did finish 5th in assists at SF) wants more money. And did I mention he has a bit of a history? Warrior fans, we feel your pain.

He helped them for a season
I dont recall them being in the playoffs this year, though. And really, he helped them as a complement to Baron Davis, not because he was the man on the team. Plus Biedrins and Ellis had their breakout years as well. So it wasn’t just Captain Jack. While he’s a little nuts which has helped Nelson get the best out of him he really hasn’t contributed as much as he thinks. Yeah, he did a number on Dirk but I think that was a one time thing.

Wasn't S-Jax's fault
You can’t blame him when his team wins 49 games.

I don't watch a lot of Warriors games...
but of a few SF radio stations I’ve heard them bring up this topic, and both times the talking heads pushed the idea that Jackson was the Warriors best player. If that’s actually true, he has a point about the money… didn’t they just give Biedrins and Ellis about 40% more than he’s getting?

I don't know
What is the going rate for a guy with a sub 42% career FG% that was suspended for going into the stands after a fan as well as a gun charge? He’s signed for two more years at a total of almost $15 million. And if you’ll pardon the expression, no one held a gun to his head when he signed that contract.
Offer me Ellis, Biedrins or Jackson, and I would take them in that order. I would also take Maggette, Brandan Wright and probably Anthony Randolph before offering at S-Jax.

I definitely agree with you on the 'crazy' factor...
was simply trying to make the point that I could understand his unhappiness if he is even remotely close to being their best player. I would also rather have everyone else you named, but mostly for their potential and stability, not because they’re all better players (I doubt they all turn out better than Jackson).
Cap’n hack believes Jackson is the Warriors 2nd best player, so again, that makes him asking for security after lesser talents just signed much bigger deals understandable. With that said, I think Jackson is expendable now that they signed Maggette, so I don’t expect him to actually get paid.

the crazy factor
is presently dormant. i wouldn’t say that it’s a certainity that it will always be that way, but he’s not the same guy who went into the stands in indiana. he’s guy who mans up the other team’s best wing player night in, night out and gives everything to the warriors. the sub 42% shooting doesn’t show that.
and if listing trade value, jack is third on the team behind ellis and biedrins, because those guys are young and locked up to long term, very reasonable deals. the only guy that was listed by 214 that might be ahead of him in a year is randolph, who showed that he could be something great. but if he shows flashes of brilliance THIS year, i’d be very surprised, he’s still raw. wright has not shown that he has that high of a ceiling, i see him as the 5th starter on a good team, who plays good defense and is a respectable scorer (10-12 ppg-ish), nothing more than that. maggette has way less trade value because he’s overpaid, don’t get me wrong, i liked the signing, but we needed to overpay to get him. jackson on the other hand, is underpaid, and will be until he becomes a free agent in two years.

S-Jax is a classic example of why
a guy drops to the 2nd round and never gets offered big money. He’s uber talented, but his mouth attitude and ego cash check’s he could never cash in the long run.
That being said if you were a team like the Kings in 2002 he would have thrived because his type of physical attitude is something the Kings could have used.

warriors fan here
jackson deserves more money, but he won’t get it. he’s the 5th highest paid player on the team, and is the 2nd best player, behind monta. but the only way he’d get that money is with an extention, and mullin doesn’t mess around with vets wanting some extra cash as they approach the end of the line. i don’t know if he’s right or wrong about that (i’ll have a better idea when i see how boom dizzle fares in a clippers’ jersey), but i know that jax has two years left as a warrior before he moves on to play a supporting role on a fringe contender. unless he shows no sign of age in these next two years, that will be the case.
and for the record, he asked for more money, but he didn’t do anything disruptive. he feels that he’s done enough to have some long term job security, wouldn’t you feel the same way? i’ll care when he starts to sulk or attack teammates. until that time comes, i’m with you all the way, o captain my captain.

If I was his agent/friend
What I’d tell him is to invest now when the going is cheap, and learn to deal with the up’s and down’s of the stock market long term, and tell him to live with the fact that no NBA team will ensure that his grandchildren will have a trust fund waiting for them.
