Matchup Preview: Kings v Blazers

This comes from a Blazers site, so take it with a grain of salt, but this is a pretty good and pretty in depth preview of the Kings v Blazers matchup. I like the full player by player and position by position previews.

Here is the link, it's an interesting read

I didn't realize the Kings were 3-1 against Portland last season. Both teams have changed so much this off season. The Kings, with Martin and Miller do match Roy and Oden pretty well...

meh

Ron Artest was a key factor in that series. Really, both teams are going to vary substantially in styles, it’s really hard to predict what the make-ups will look like till raceday.

Also, before the throngs commence – technically a Fanshot, but I appreciate the link.

Hold on

This guy is asserting Steve Blake is way better than Beno Udrih. As in, a decisive factor in the matchup.

Ummm….

My thoughts exactly...

Does this guy even watch PG play in the NBA? Steve Blake is no better than Beno. I’m willing to accept a “push” for now. When they play the games this year, I suspect to see just the opposite of what this guy is prediciting. There is no way Blake dominates Beno.

Interestingly, one of the gripes about Beno is that he doesn’t finish well enough at the rim (although he does get there). When is the last time you saw Blake break a guy down and take him to the rim and finish?

perhaps Blazer dude can explain the numbers

Steve Blake
PPG: 8.5
RPG: 2.4
APG: 5.1
EFT: 10.52

Beno Udrih (whose numbers would have been even better if not for the Bibby complications)
PPG: 12.8
RPG: 3.3
APG: 4.2
EFT: 13.06

Yeah, that Steve Blake is a f*cking game changer!!!!!

Seriously!

That Steve Blake comment directly reduced his credibility in my eyes. But this comparison also: “Hawes has nothing on Pryzbilla, and that might be one of my favorite bench matchups of the season.” Uhhh……seriously? Pryzbilla will get more blks and maybe 2 more rbs..but tha’ts it. What about scoring? Assists FTs??

by Shizzo on Sep 30, 2008 12:52 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Garcia

Although I like the bench of Blazers… For an illustration, there were four players last year who scored more than 15 points at least three times in the matchups. Aldridge, Artest, Martin and Roy. No, sorry, it was not Roy (he did it once), of course. It was Garcia.

His stats in four games against Blazers: 22.9 pts per 36 min, FG: 58, 3PT 50, +/- statistics: +32, True shooting 70.5% (I have calculated the numbers by myself and apologize for possible errors. Also, if someone is able to calculate PER, I am really curious about it).

Otherwise, apart from the haphazard Udrih/Blake comparison and calling Martin just a “decent” player I quite like it. And I’m afraid that Aldridge evaluation is simply right. Unless Thompson or Green would step up (and they are actually as unproven as Bayless or even Fernandez – considering the NBA play).

by KingsFanfromCentralEurope on Sep 30, 2008 1:42 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Aldridge is obviously thier advantage

against us.

Steve Blake or Beno? Although I’m reluctant on just 50 games or so, I’d have to say almost certainly Beno, right now, – and still some possible upside.

Too many guys waiting/wanting contracts (and yes, I’m a little worried for the Kings in a year)

Hell, they BETTER be good – especially with all the silly hype they’ve gotten. I still am not convinced that Portland is ‘on thier way’ or that Oden, a guy who hasn’t played NBA ball yet will be a superstar (he might – but what the hell are people talking about! We haven’t seen him PLAY anyone yet)

We win at Center, SG, PG – and SF is a wash depending who’s hot.

I’ll take that Garcia against either of their back-up 2/3s, Hawes will do fine, BobbyJ, sWilliams for muscle, and the two rookies.

I’d say we’ll do well again

That being said

Since most agree we win most of the match-ups.

Anybody going out on the ’we’ll have a better record’ limb?

Portland is better than us

But they are suddenly primed to disappoint. I think that most folks are a full year premature when it comes to charting their level of success.

You win at C?

That’s worse than saying Blake is better than Udrih, which is really bad. SG, not quite as sure, but ours was an All-Star, and our 2nd SG tore you up last night. SF didn’t look smashing for you either. I’m not sure we’re on the same planets.

Still, Udrih is better than Blake.

It took

a 16 game winning streak (was it?) to beat us by a few games with no Bibby, part time Artest, 17 games martin out, bMiller ect…

we’ll see.

I think they might be overrated, last year and this.

The media ‘story of the season’

we’ll see, they do have some very good players.

it was 13...

but we looked like a better, and completely different, team than that one.

We are going to know

what type of team we have pretty dang soon. The media loves Portland and gives the Kings the back of their hand. People consistently underestimate Kmart, barring injuries I expect him to have an awesome year and that will translate to a few more wins. I don’t see either team making the playoffs. I don’t think we’ll be good but I totally don’t see us being bad. Some experts have us winning 15-20 games. Do you think Greg Oden is doing his suicide drills?
