Shareef Abdur-Rahim Takes the Coaching Job

Ailene Voisin gets the story out of media day:

Shareef Abdur-Rahim, who recently reitred because of knee problems at age 31, looked a little uncomfortable Monday during media day. The veteran power forward is joining Reggie Theus' coaching staff, primarily to work with the front court players. ... The former Cal standout was convinced to take the coaching position by Kings president Geoff Petrie, a terrific NBA player who was similarly forced to retire prematurely because of knee problems.

I've mentioned a few times that Spencer Hawes might be most similar to Shareef, in terms of output. Hawes might drift away a few more feet from the hoop, but at the core, both are skilled, not overly athletic big studs. We'll see, but I don't see how this can hurt (toss in Jason Thompson and Donté Greene, too).

Excellent!

And the glorious summer of ’08 just keeps getting better.

Ball movement ... is like jogging for most people: They do it occasionally, and it makes them happy. Then they go back to not doing it. - Henry Abbott

I forgot to mention as the 3rd key to summer would be Shareef getting a coaching job on the staff

I really wish I could say that coming, but I can’t. Alas, my soothsayer abilities are fading.

Unlike Wall Street

I see this move paying big dividends.

This place needs more fiduciary humor. Sound it out.

My enthusiasm still stands.

Yes!

This off-season has been so miraculous, I can’t put it into words. I just want to dance around a fire and keep the good vibes coming.

Great summer

I think we’re a Kenny Thomas trade away from all of StR having a collective orgasm, immediately followed by a wave of fear since we’ve been trained to expect disappointment and gloom.

Never forget: I am a complete idiot
