If taken strictly for entertainment value

and with Oceans of Salt… it’s not THAT bad. Mildly entertaining. Like reading a Sunday morning cartoon that makes you smirk, not because the comic is actually funny, but because the drawing was a little screwed up and Garfield looks like he’s smoking reefer.

$ per point

So this confirms that Speed Racer and Flaco are bargains, right?

PS

Does Joe Flacco’s status as the QB for Baltimore prevent us from using Flaco as a nickname for Garcia?

It's straight economics

Produce more and you can sell more at cheaper prices. Players like K-Mart produce at such a high rate that they can afford to contribute more points or rebounds to this organization at cheaper prices. On the other hand, K9’s rebounds are so scarce nowadays that they’ve jumped up in price, thus inflating the value of his rebounds.

Nice one

I heard a rumor that the Kings are seeking part of the $700 million to bail them out of the K-9 contract.

Too much of a stretch? Sorry, I work in finance, I’m rarely a funny individual.

I see you arguing price is related to supply

but how much Demand is there for a K-9 rebound?

Ah, you see...

Since K9 cannot produce anymore at competitive prices, he has no choice but to increase the cost of each and every one of his precious rebounds he makes to remain in business. Since the costs of his rebounds are so high, demand is such that fans would like a producer who can produce on a wide scale at cheap prices per rebound to replace him.

by CloudyEyes on Oct 1, 2008 6:31 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Eh.

Kenny Thomas signed a smart contract, I’m not going to crap on him for doing what any of us would do, when it’s not as if it was his choice to come to Sacramento.

Everything I’ve read or heard about him says he’s a good team guy, and isn’t making trouble in the locker room. This site doesn’t need a tired “where’s-the-beef”-esque meme, if you ask me.

No, I’m not his agent, I’d love 10% of that.

Nicely put

Your willingness to stand up in the face of great opposition, and defend what you think is unfair or unjust is quite admirable.

No politics please

But thanks for proving my point.

But before you totally shot me down in flames, I’d like to point out that at the start of the 06/07 season our own TZ posted and article stating that Thomas should start before SAR. Then later in the season, he questioned why Musselman wasn’t giving him more minutes. Then at the start of last season, there was a post from TZ that quoted Reggie as saying that Thomas was working harder than Moore.

Now, I don’t know what he did to deserve all the personal attacks, but I find it quite disturbing and somewhat sophomoric.

Sophomoric

I’d have to work to ascend to sophomoric.

The guy is making serious NBA coin, the kind that it is hamstringing this franchise at the moment. That’s not his fault. I’d take that money, too.

But he is not coming close to earning that contract. In fact, he is so far away from earning that contract he has become virtually impossible to trade. That is his fault. Mikki Moore gets minutes and K9(woof!…yes, I still say woof!) does not? That’s not coaching favoritisim. That’s one guy earning his check while the other guy mails it in.

Kenny Thomas is the single greatest personnel problem that the KIngs have. Period.

.....Nothing Personal (to finish that statement for you)

Seriously.

I don’t understand the sudden “take it easy on K9” backlash. I haven’t read anything here that seems like an attack on him personally, just the fact that his contract is crippling the franchise. It was even mentioned a while back that any negative reference to K9 should be inferred as “Kenny Thomas’ Contract”.

NOTE: I honestly wish nothing but the best for K9 as a person. I hope he manages well the money that he’s made, and never has to struggle to support his family (which I honestly don’t know a thing about – wife? kids? parents?). That kind of security is priceless. Back on track…

Petrie didn’t give him the contract, but did acquire it. That’s on Geoff.

Kenny didn’t offer himself the contract, but he did sign it. That’s not something we can blame him for (just about EVERYONE has stated that they’d do the same, obviously), but the fact that he’s fallen off the map is something that can be put on his shoulders. (This can also partially be taken off of GP’s end of the blame, because the original plan was to turn Webber’s gigantic contract into smaller, movable pieces . . . unfortunately K9 is not movable.)

Every negative reference I recall reading has been directed towards his albatross contract and how it limits what the franchise can do (see: “Kenny Thomas’ Contract” above), because the amount paid in relation to what he currently provides as a player is so disproportionate that (as Section pointed out) it simply cannot be traded. They couldn’t attach it to Bibby or Artest . . . that’s how poorly he’s performed.

This has nothing to do with Kenneth Cornelius Thomas the man, and everything to do with K9(woof!) the Kings asset.

Since this is a site for discussing the Kings Franchise, I think that’s a completely fair assessment to make. We’re discussing the Kings: who will step up, what are the problems, when will they compete again, where will the next great player come from, why did the player/coach/front office do [insert bad result here], how can the team improve, etc.

Lakers fans don’t care that Kobe is a jerk, they just care that he makes their team better. Likewise, many people don’t care if K9 is a great guy or not, because the only reason that they even known anything about him is because he wears a purple shirt that says “Sacramento” on the front.

Once K9’s done in Sacramento, he will be little more than a footnote to most fans. Until then, his contract will be the topic of many “how can the Kings move forward” discussions, because he is the weakest salary link. All that matters is how players affect the franchise.

We do, after all, root primarily for the laundry.

Very well said

As for:

I don’t understand the sudden "take it easy on K9" backlash.

I think it’s kind of like when Ben Wallace was terribly underrated, and then people kept talking about how underrated he was that he suddenly became overrated. K-9(woof!) has been bashed as the bane of the franchise so much, that…wait, he’s still a horrible, horrible asset. Bash away, folks!

Never forget: I am a complete idiot

Moving forward

When I posted my reply to andy sims post, I debated whether or not to include a HA! HA!, or a LOL, or even a smiley face at the end. I did expect some rebuttal to his comment as well as mine.

I’m sure you mean it when you said

This has nothing to do with Kenneth Cornelius Thomas the man, and everything to do with K9(woof!) the Kings asset

And, I agree totally with section when he said

Kenny Thomas is the single greatest personnel problem that the KIngs have. Period.

But, I have to tell you that in the one month that I’ve been following this site and reading past post all I’ve seen is negativity, wise cracks, and one liners at Thomas’ expense. So, if BJax doesn’t see alot of time or doesn’t produce, do we come up with some demeaning nickname for him? Thomas’s contract is what it is. We can’t do anything about it, so move on.

You did an excellent job discribing what this site should be about. But, I didn’t see any of those who, why ,what, or how’s being discussed here. What was the purpose of this thread anyway, if not a group roast. Where was basketball discussed? Where was the sport in it?

Get used to the one-liners it wont' change

When you tell people to stop having opinions on a web site that’s entirely devoted to such, it’s like telling a guy to chop his dick off & go have sex with a mexican whore. No Thank You! (I prefer high class whores only thank you very much.)

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar

I fear that you’re reading way too much into this…

When I coined Justin Williams 3-Wil it was for laughs (and I laughed, and that’s all that matters to me).

When I stated that Mikki Moore’s hand gestures were really a pair of lobster claws with three fingers sewn on to each claw, it was for laughs (and again I laughed, so mission accomplished once again). Or when I named Moore Venus D’Mikki (or VdM for short), or when I called him Bluetooth (he’s hands free, get it?).

Kenny Thomas notwithstanding, I find this site to be highly positive, more so than nearly any other website or blog that I visit that is not owned by Maloof Sports & Entertainment (which is still a pretty good place for information). As far as non-informative threads, they happen. But they usually provide some laughs along the way.

I don’t read the Sacramento Bee from A-1 to F-28. I pick through it and find what interests me. I like this site for the same reason. There is a lot of variety and a lot of different viewpoints and writing styles. I certainly have not found any source that provides more Kings information than here, and that’s taking into consideration that I provide zilch and take up a lot of space while doing it (re-read this post for confirmation).

Anyway, as one contributing writer to another, I would suggest that perhaps it is not what is being written here but what you choose to dwell upon. Or maybe it’s my rose colored glasses. Or the crystal meth. Whatever, I love all of you. You’re all invited over to my place for Yoo-Hoo and Twister.

I'm for having fun

There wasn’t anything visious or foul being said. I guess it was just the quantity. I have read almost every threat that TZ posted for the last year to get myself up to date on where everyone was at.

So, if BJax doesn’t see alot of time or doesn’t produce, do we come up with some demeaning nickname for him?

Sure, why not? It’s all in fun. If BJax is a bust, I nominate his nickname to be “BJec” instead.

BJec = Bobby Jackson’s Expiring Contract

Thank you, I’ll be here all week.
