49ers (and Raiders) season a day away
Hey folks. My name is Fooch and I'm the main writer over at Niners Nation. With basketball season still a couple months off, the NFL season kicks off Sunday afternoon in the Bay Area. I thought I'd make sure everybody knew about the football sites here at SB Nation.
Niners Nation is our 49ers site and Silver and Black Pride is our Raiders site. I can't speak for Saint at Silver and Black Pride, but over at Niners Nation we're developing a nice little community of 49ers fans. Everybody brings some quality insight and makes for great conversation all season long.
For those who haven't been over to Niners Nation, we have a year long prediction contest that starts Sunday. It's cumulative so the more predictions you get in the better your chances. The prize is still to be determined, but I'm hoping it will involve some sort of 49ers merchandise. More on that to come.
So, if you get a chance now or anytime this season, swing by Niners Nation. The 49ers are not getting a lot of love from the national media, but I think they have some sleeper potential!

Sacramento
doesn’t have a local team, and the belief that the Niners and Raiders are local is the main reason why.

A friend of mine thinks Russell will be out of the league by next year
I’m not sure that will happen or not, but the Raiders do have alot of problems.

He's got a strong arm
I think that whole team is just befuddled right now. Kiffin’s a lame-duck, the defense has deteriorated from two years ago, and you have young players at the skill positions on offense. They are going to take their lumps for a while.
But I do think Russell will be ok down the road. I’m not sure the talent is in question, but his work ethic and ability to learn the offense and read NFL defenses may be.

Take your word for it
As far as the NFL goes I don’t bother to follow anymore.

It doesn’t get worse than losing at home to Arizona does it?

What are the odds
That this is the year Arizona finally puts it all together and becomes a playoff team? That would make this weekend’s loss somewhat tolerable for Niners fans.
Yeah, that’s what I thought too – the Cardinals are most likely still the Cardinals.

Typical vocabulary from a Raiders fan as well.
Napear: "Going in to the final timeout what did the coach tell you?"
Bibby: "I asked the coach if I should go and he said, I don't really know what he said."

But -
you have to love someone that can still admit to being a Raider fan. I hung up my eye patch when Al Davis f*cked over Marcus Allen, the greatest Raider ever.

If you follow the NFL...
…then why would you discredit an AZ win over the hapless 49ers? Cards actually do look legit this year and the 49ers are a mess. How can Martz’s offense work with horrific WRs? They based their free-agent WR class on Bryant Johnson who was an AZ bust. Morgan might be good, but it is rare that a Rook WR produces with an inexperienced QB.

Seems to be a conflicting message here
Or was the first sentence sarcasm? It seems you proceeded to discredit the AZ win.

I didn't discredit the win
In the NFL, a win is a win and any fan will take one. I’m just saying that it shouldn’t be a surprise that the Cards beat the 49ers.

um, its Arizona
Honestly, I don’t think I have to defend discrediting a team that has won 2 Division titles in my lifetime, the most recent of which was over 30 years ago.
Arizona has a long history of having their few fans be hopeful after week 1. If you are one of them, my hat’s off to you, that loyalty is worthy of respect, but you have to expect people are going to pick on your team’s futility by now, don’t you?
The Cards have “looked legit” plenty of years in Week 1, you might try having your team actually win a little before you expect anyone else to notice.

I was talking about 2008
Of course I am used to people picking on the Cards. It’s nothing new. Quite unoriginal actually. Not sure why you bring up the varying histories of the two teams. Obviously the 49ers achieved quite a lot in the past. They were great as recently as 2002. However, last year the Cards finished 8-8 (albeit with two embarrassing losses to SF). The 49ers finished 5-11. The teams are moving in opposite directions as long as Whiz is in the desert and Nolan is in the Bay.

Opposite directions this
Down go the Seahawks, maybe the Niners will be better this year. The 49ers and Cardinals both being decent in the same year truly would be an unprecedented situation.
