Donté Takes Réno, Part I

Donté Greene will make his Réno Bighorns debut tonight against the Bakersfield Jam. The tip is at 7PM PST. No word on whether D.G. will start, but he's expected to get heavy minutes while in the D-League. His notable teammates include former Orangeman Gerry McNamara and former King Patrick Ewing Jr. The Jam have Derrick Byars and Trey Johnson. Mateen Cleaves, the finest towel-waver in Sacramento history, is on the Jam roster but hasn't played in a while, and honestly I'm not actually sure he'll still with Bakersfield.
We'll all be refreshing the boxscore, no doubt. Any comments on the game or Greene's budding skills as T.V. host ... leave them here.

Wow, Ewing Jr ended up there, eh?
Last I heard, he was supposed to receive a fair shot at NY’s roster. Now I know where all the second rounders end up.
He got cut during preseason
Just days before the season. I think.

Reno checking in
I’ll be at the game tonight, probably be the only one there but who cares. I’ll post later tonight how it went.
Greatest photoshop ever by the way
Waitaminute!
I just thought about this. If he’s headed to Reno, what does this mean for the Donte Greene Show?
Is there any chance we can see him on Reno 911?

Yeah good 1st half
Of course, Ewing had 11 points. With his inability to score in the summer, is the NBADL worse than summer league?

you'd think
b/c in summer league, ALL the prospects play, and prospects from last year play, so that’s easily 60 players on NBA rosters that play in summer and not the D

Makes me question how much good this can really do Donté
PT is good and all, but if the quality of play is too poor, he’d be getting more quality development practicing with the Kings.
They can assign him to Reno up to 3 times, with no limits on how long he stays.
So, I’d send him down for a week or two when the Kings have few off days, and them bring him back up when the schedule is more lax, to take advantage of team practices.

D-League Talent
The D-League’s probably a good place for him, as he’s getting in game situations. Unfortunately, Bakersfield is backcourt loaded, and thusly, frontcourt weak, so this might not be the best game for him, other than to get acclimated to the team.
Ridiculous? I think Not.
Upside? Plenty.

é-League
He’s lighting it up tonight, but Bakersfield only has one guy over 6’7", and that’s Nick Lewis. Let’s see him do this against a team with a decent frontcourt. Unfortunately, that’s not until Idaho next Thursday, and he’ll probably recalled by then from the sounds of it..

then went for 10 scoreless minutes
Not much assist/block action either, and his rebounding numbers are low considering he’s facing such a short team.
But that’s nitpicking.

My question
Why isn’t Quincy or Shelden in Reno? Both have been getting less minutes than Greene. What’s the roster limit for D-League teams?
Reno wins
Dontè finishes with 26 points on 9-16 shooting, 5 rebounds, 4 blocks. I have no idea what to make of those numbers.
Sh*t!
That’s going to screw up our lottery chances for the NBDL draft.

Donte looked good last night, completely lost of denfense most of the time though. It will be interesting to see what happens with him. He plays again today at three
What do you mean
lost on D? You were at the game I guess. Can you tell what he needs to do/not doing? Can’t pick up rotations etc..? I honestly haven’t been able to analyze his D from his Kings minutes.

He was having a real tough time defending the three point line and was getting really exposed by Bakersfield. Some of it may have been being just thrown into a new system but he shouldnt have been getting beat as much as he was sometimes. Being a better overall athlete helped him out numerous times. He looked real active on his help D though which was encouraging and that is where he got most of his blocks.
I am going today at three today which will probably give a litle better read sinc ehe was really rusty during the first half last night. There were quite a few members of the organization there as well.
On a brighter note I was about 10 feet from Mateen Cleaves and even though he was just in street clothes that man can wave a towl with the best of them. It almost brought a tear to my eye to see how graceful that waving was!
