Dreams and Struggles and Dreams
No matter your politics, the country's taking a giant step tomorrow. The world's not perfect overnight, but the promised land is coming into closer view.
You could say basketball doesn't matter. But anything -- even a cruddy 10-31 team -- that brings diverse people together, that's a good thing.

Basketball matters
It matters because it matters to people who care about it. Strength is not necessarily in numbers, but in passionate belief.

I have a dream
That one day, little black millionaires and little white millionaires will be able to play together as brothers.
Seriously, have a fine day, and a great week everyone. Politics aside, we’re doing something monumental this week.

I'm at the Inauguration!
Was at the concert yesterday. Truly amazing feeling in DC right now. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Aside from the concert, highlights thus far:
-throwing shoes at a two story inflatable GW
-the Obama condom salesman on the Capital Mall whose pitch line was, “Obama condoms five dollars; durin’ the election I got an erection cuz Change is cumming!”
Thanks TZ
For posting that sweet video of Dr. King. While MLK contributed to making this world better, he knew the promised land would not be seen here on Earth. “My eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord,” he said. What a great day that will be!

Tail end of Barack's speech today
What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility – a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task. This is the price and the promise of citizenship. This is the source of our confidence – the knowledge that God calls on us to shape an uncertain destiny. This is the meaning of our liberty and our creed – why men and women and children of every race and every faith can join in celebration across this magnificent mall, and why a man whose father less than sixty years ago might not have been served at a local restaurant can now stand before you to take a most sacred oath. So let us mark this day with remembrance, of who we are and how far we have traveled. In the year of America’s birth, in the coldest of months, a small band of patriots huddled by dying campfires on the shores of an icy river. The capital was abandoned. The enemy was advancing. The snow was stained with blood. At a moment when the outcome of our revolution was most in doubt, the father of our nation ordered these words be read to the people: “Let it be told to the future world…that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive…that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet [it].” America. In the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children’s children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God’s grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.
What an amazing day. One of Dr. King’s dreams has finally been realized.

Lot’s of potential and upside, but he’ll have to earn the contract extension.

Good Call

Its doubtful he'll have to work too hard to earn it
Obama is entering the best situation of any incoming president since Reagan.
1) The economy is a wreck, meaning he can’t get any blame for it, and when it comes back he’ll get plenty of credit
2) The press is openly rooting for him, like Chris Mathews saying things like “we really need to do everything we can to make sure this president succeeds”
3) He has complete control of the congress to the point that the only question is will he be extremist enough for them
4) He has a completely blank checkbook. He enters the White House with the mandate from the people to spend as much money as he possibly can. Can you imagine?
Don’t get me wrong, I, like almost everyone else am rooting for the guy. I just hope he’s the guy he advertised in the election. If he’s truly about uniting the country and listening to all sides and being the moderate he ran as, he has a historic opportunity to go down as a great president. If he lets Nancy Pelosi run the show, its going to be a long 4 or 8 years for right-leaning moderates like myself.
So, I don’t think he’ll have to work hard to be re-elected. I do think he’ll have to work his ass off to be the guy he wants to be remembered as; if he does, and he is as smart as we all seem to believe, we’ll have 8 years of him, and even righties like myself should be happy about it.

He ran as a moderate?
Joe the plumber told me he ran as a Socialist.

Have Korean's been talking about this at all?

Which, Obama or Joe?
I’ll assume Obama.
There’s interest, but not crazy over-the-top obsession like I see on CNN.
There was some concern during the campaign about a comment he made regarding Korea and fair trade. It was about the imbalance of car imports due to Korea’s tariffs.
I don’t know if it’s more or less than usual. I wasn’t here for the last regime change, but I’d guess it’s about the same level of interest as usual with maybe a little surprise/notice about the historical factor added in.
