Yep, Sam seems to think Kenny Natt has a good chance to stay on as the permanent coach of the team.

I will repeat what I've said from the time Natt was named interim coach

Making a calm rational decision, and not discounting the absolutely incredibly awful circumstances Natt inheritated this team with, is the most important thing. Paying some expensive coach to coach a team to 30 wins next year is probably not the way this is going to play out. If Natt continues to do what Geoff Petrie considers to be a good job, then so be it. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.

And, I think Sam was noodling when talking about the Maloof’s not spending money. He may or may not be right, but this hasn’t stopped him before.

There's truth in that

But Natt doesn’t inspire confidence in me.

Me neither

Even if next year is still a rebuilding aka ‘not a lot of wins’ year, I would prefer to have a coach in place that will stay for the long haul and not another lame duck who’s just going to try to get the team toplay with energy and see what happens.

I think the Kings need to define a system sooner rather than later and it all starts with hiring a coach that shares the vision of the front office whether it is the Princeton or a more defensive minded approach. Whichever it is, we need the players to work with this system so that when “the puzzle is fnished” the team is ready for big things

Agree with both of you

And I think it’s way to early to predict what will happen on the coaching front, regardless of Natt’s success in the win/loss department during the second half.

But it’s clear that Natt is an important piece right now – the team needs the professionalism and organization that went out the window under the last two coaching regimes. So I think it’s cool that Natt finishes the year – it also gives the team a chance to see who’s available during the offseason.

No doubt he finishes the year

I don’t think any coach would come into this situation halfway through the season. Looks like the other teams that fired their coaches are going to do the same. Philly, Minny, and OKC have all improved somehow after firing their coaches so they are in no rush to hire a new one.

I thought it was interesting to learn that Musselman and Theus are not getting paid that much money (in NBA terms of course). Muss is getting only 1.25 a year and Theus 1.36 for the rest of this year. Kinda throws out the window the argument of paying 3 coaches at the same time because 2.5 doesn’t seem like such a big amount (again, in NBA terms). Still though, I’m not expecting a new coach to be hired until after the season is over.

Holy cow

Did I really write that headline? Awful, just awful.

Don't be too hard on yourself

I’d say Natt is in better shape than Brown, Jackson, Adelman, and Sloan just to name a few. And if he hits the weights regularly he can overtake some of the younger lazy permanent coaches.

Why has Natt not earned a head coaching job up to this point?

Does anyone know why this is? After spending years with Jerry Sloan I figured he would have earned himself a job by now. Also, what’s up with Elston Turner? He is another guy who has yet to earn a head coaching job even though he has been Adelman’s right hand man for a while now? Should we wait until the end of the season and interview him again? I don’t like many of the other coaches on the market right now and I honestly just want to see the Kings stick with someone for a while but I’m not sure Natt is the guy.

Pretty typical I think for coaches to have to 'wait there turn'

The exceptions are noteworthy though
