tick tick tick... BOOM!

I have changed my mind about the Kings, after hearing the latest insights from Carrill and Petrie ala Sam Amick's article today, as well as the general, unspoken things that everyone has been skirting around for months....

I was thinking they just need time, more time, it takes time to learn to play, etc, but I think this team, currently assembled, is just lacking the chemistry to play hard and compete.  Okay I know that isn't a newsflash, but the bottom line is, everyone on the team is just way too comfortable losing, and even losing badly, and with players paid as much as they are, and their fragile egos, etc, no one can send a real message to them despite the loud hints and everything...

Remember Jerry McGuire, the movie?   Think of how that agent, Jerry, had to skirt around and around and around the whole ego of Cuba Gooding Jr., before coming right out and saying what needed to be said.

Anyway, knowing that things aren't getting through, I think we should blow up the team, if we are going to lose and lose big, night in and night out.   (Nuggets game notwithstanding).

So what I am saying is, it is okay with me if they trade anyone, if they get something back in return.   Not just some stupid cap space that we may or may not get to sign someone to some ridiculous contract of obscene money to come here to underperform.   I say, no one is untouchable, and let's trade four or five players, hell, maybe even six or seven, if we can get good value.

This will send a message that losing the way we have been is unacceptable, and invigorate the team with fresh blood, and maybe get some decent defensive players too, for Natt to build with...

So, am I crazy?   Are any of you thinking the same thing?   I still say Marion would be a good start, but who knows?  At this point, I don't even care.   I mean, don't get me wrong.  I like our Kings players and hope they all do well, and show some heart and winning spirit, but sometimes we all need a change to get us going again....

I'm getting closer each game

to feeling the same way. I would really like to hang on to Speed*, JT, and the é, but with each passing game I’m slowing leaning towards no one being untouchable. At the first of the season Hawes would’ve been on this list for me and now I don’t think I have any problem at all with him being trade bait. Like you said, I would love to see him thrive here but if he’s the missing piece in a trade that nets a real player then he has to go.

Nevertheless, I’ll keep watching every game and cheering when they do well (however rarely that may be).

  • I doubt I’ll ever get to the point of being willing to deal Speed, but I would certainly give it a lot better chance now than at the first of the season. Whatever it takes to bring this awfulness to a close sooner.

I'm all for it but.....

Honestly, how many of the Kings do other teams really want?

If I go with the thinking that Kevin, Spencer, JT, Buckets and Garcia are untouchable (and I believe they should be), who else is there? Sure, some teams are probably interested in Salmons and Miller, but other than that, there is no-one on this roster who would fetch a 2nd round pick. Maybe some would consider Beno, but for his salary, I would think he’s here until that contract is an expiring.

Unfortunately, I think most of these guys will be here for another season, as next year they will have value (in expiring contracts).

It’s a no-brainer that Miller has got to go, but I’m not sure that we will pick up any prospects for him. I would assume that cap relief is all he will bring (and maybe a 2nd rounder)….and forgetting one good game against the warriors, i think that’s better than having him remain.

i'm a believer that

you don’t become great until you’ve been really bad…and finally we have our chance through the draft. I’m not in the camp of speeding up this process, but i also don’t get to choose between going to the games or not, so that could change my view.

Some points

I’ve rehashed, oh about a million times now, what BYC is, and click the link if you don’t understand why I’m saying what I do in the following statement.

Francisco Garcia is PPP (almost like BYC—just click the link), and Kevin Martin is BYC, rendering both untradeable. For at least, the next 6 months in Kevin’s case, and for the next 18 in Cisco’s case. So regardless of whether you wanted to trade either guy, and I don’t view either as the problem, but if you did, right now it would next to impossible to trade either guy without getting full value back. You don’t want to do that.

I will say, it’s a good thing Garcia & Martin are both PPP/BYC, because if t hey weren’t, it would be much easier to entertain any thoughts of trading them to change the mix & start over. Thankfully, it’s not.

The problems with this team, in order:

  • chemistry/mix is not right—only Geoff Petrie can change it
  • Attitude from Brad Miller is making him less & less valuable by the day
  • Petrie’s insistence on getting more from Miller may end up hurting this team more than it did holding onto Artest for so long

At some point, this is just a team you’re going to have live with the fact that it simply sucks. No more and, no less.

No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. It's simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get tangled, you tango on
