Hoopsworld: Brad to New York?
How did I miss this one? I blame the Darius Miles drama from last week.
Hoopsworld jumps on the possibility of a Miller-Thomas for Marbury trade: "Miller's passing ability and face up game would be a nice fit in Coach Mike D'Antoni's system. The Knicks would be able to cash out a disgruntled player for a very workable center."

DO IT!!!
I cannot stand Marbury, but it would give the Kings press but also flexibility in this offseason as well as 2010. No more K9, No more Brad… the season seems like a wash as it is, spice it up in the later part of the year and hope for that high draft pick. It is called rebuilding for a reason people!

Repeating myself
from earlier threads, but can anyone tell me why NY commits $42 million to Miller/Thomas next year (they will be over the tax level so they will pay double for these guys) when they will be done with Marbury in no more than three months?
That said, dooooooooooooo it!

Because having the asset's is more important than money to them
They have money, what they need is to figure out a way to get LeBron there, if they can. I disagree with you that money is such a huge issue for them 214. I just do. They’re paying 98 million in salary this season, and they’re talking about trading Marbury for talent if they can. The economy took a bigger dip than Kenny Lay’s image after the Enron scandal, and they’re thinking about talent!!! You take advantage of this. My question is would the Knicks do Brad & Kenny coming back. But that’s the only question I have. (I would be more than willing to substitute Mikki for K9 if that got New York to do that deal though.)

I respectfully disagree
They are in great shape in 2010 whether or not they make this deal. They do not need to take on an extra $42 million in salary next year (or roughly $30 million if you substitute Moore and buy him out) to improve their chances at a prime free agent in 2010. So the question is, is Miller worth the money? And I dare you to find anyone (not named Miller or Isiah Thomas) that says that he is.
I love the deal. I’d love to be wrong. I don’t think that I am.

Yeah but how is that going to help them get talent to attract LeBron?
It’s not about the money in courting LeBron. You know that. LeBron is getting his. We know that. He knows that. New York knows that. What it’s about is acquiring enough chips so they have a way to say to LeBron: You’re just not coming to the biggest sports market in the world; you’re going to be a legend, and we got the talent to ensure that.
I highly doubt the Knicks will just view any opportunity to take on big contracts, as just extra money. They’re the one team that can afford to play with their money like their playing Monopoly.

Let me say this 214
What if you’re the Wizards, and you’re ready to part with Arenas. You want cap room, and a quality prospect or two. You’re tired of his antics, and all that. He makes 16.1 million next season. Having a big expiring contract would help the Wizards move forward from that. Just look at Detroit, and how much Matt Watson started salivating over the thought of Detroit having cap room. New York is a great place for Free Agents to go! I’m not starting a rumor, and I used Arenas as that example because I see that being so very unlikely. But if you’re New York, do you try doing that for that reason?

The Arenas example
They will already have plenty of expiring contract on their roster in ’09 to make that deal happen – about $50 million if my math is right.

I know
But it gives them 2 opportunities to do something along those lines.

Right now they only really have 1 opportunity
Also Section, if they were looking to deal Stephon Marbury, doesn’t that mean they’re still wanting to bring in trade chips?

Perhaps
But perhaps they are just looking to unload a headache for expiring, provided he is dealt on deadline day to a western conference team. And if that fails, they just tell him to stay home and they eat the last of his contract. As you pointed out, the money does not matter as much to them.

Yeah that's true too
One of us is right in a sense. I suppose when the dust clears, we’ll see who is. But I know one thing: We’re both hoping my points are right. But it would be foolish to say your scenario isn’t equally as plausible, and easier to see.

Not going to happen
I’m just praying that the Kings are able to get cap room. Not so much for even acquiring an all-star, but just, because they need to get a new mix of players in here, and having cap room allows you to facilitiate a lop sided trade too.
But, D-Lee would be first on my list of desirable Free-Agents.
