Pull the Trigger!

If you had thirty seconds to decide on trading Miller for Marion, would you do it?   Is Marion a competitor who would make the Kings better?   Is anyone for Brad Miller an improvement?   If Marion walks at the end of the year, is it still a good trade?

I know I said it here before, but if I was Petrie, I would pull that trigger before Pat Riley said the final syllable in Sean's last name.   "Uh, Pat?"   He would say.... "You had me at hello!"

I don't think he solves all of the King's problems, but it would be a good start and send a message to the rest of the vets that it is time to start competing!   At this point, change is good!

I'd do it for Boozer not sure about Marion

He’s not having a very good year which makes me nervous in a contract year. Heck even Mike Bibby is putting up the best numbers of his career.

My feeling has been just blow it up but in today’s game thread and a couple of other posts members here have been posting about Petrie’s trade not bringing any talent back and they are right.

As I type I just changed my mind, if Pat Riley calls, make the trade. I would rather see Marion go and have the cap space than have Brad on the Kings. I would rather trade him for cap space rather than take any contracts back.

I haven't heard that

Where is the link that says such thing. Cuz everything I’m reading says he’s going to come back around the All-Star break or whatever.

Boozer won't play, and who is left?

Are you going to hold out hope for Starbury, the locker room cancer who won’t help the Kings at all, and just sicken the roster further into selfish lamewads who don’t play defense? Or take on some other big contract, just to get rid of it at the end of the year?

By the way, who are the free agents this summer that would help the Kings? (And who we could overpay for?) He he he! Let’s hope not!

i’d guess that if we (or any other non-title team) trade for starbury, he won’t be part of the team, pretty much like the way it is with the knicks right now. i think we would only trade for him as a cap move.

Yes

It would absolutely have to come with pre-conditions of a buyout.

Actually

I’d rather not rush a trade for Brad yet. This Kings team isn’t going to get any better and at this point we’re competing for ping pong balls. If we don’t get a good offer for him by the deadline, I say wait till the summer and we can trade him then, when he’ll be even more valuable to teams looking to get cap space.

Bibby

was worth S.Williams and expiring. How much might Brad be worth now, and at this time next year?

What I'm kinda hoping for honestly

Is a Miller/Salmons trade tor Marion, and the Kings turn around and trade Marion to another team for pieces they’re looking for. Or, they do this base trade, and then broker a 3 way trade to get the pieces they’re looking for. There has to be teams out there looking for a guy with a contract that’s nearly 18 million dollars and expiring.

Would Marion want to play for D'Antoni again?

If so, how about this?

NYK Out – Marbury, Lee
NYK In – Marion, Thomas

Miami Out – Marion
Miami In – Miller, Salmons

Sac Out – Miller, Thomas, Salmons
Sac In – Marbury, Lee

Why for NY? They really want to rid themselves of Marbury, and Marion played very well under D’Antoni and would probably get the chance to be a number 1 or 2 option.
Why not for NY? They lose Lee, they gain K9. Although Kenny’s contract does expire in 2010. They would probably be the most hesitant to do this. Maybe throw Donte or the Rox pick in? ducks shoes

Why for Miami? They need a damned center. Salmons becomes another scoring threat alongside D-Wade
Why not for Miami? No real reason I can think of other than contract length. Brad does expire in 2010, which will give them some cap space. With enough cap space they will be big players in that FA market simply because of their location and the chance to play with Dwayne Wade. Salmons’ contract is a year longer but we all know he’ll be productive for that extra year.

Why for Sac? Bye Brad. Bye Kenny. Thank you John, you’ll be missed. Hello Cap Space and David Lee. Essentially this would be a fire sale that lands us a big young guy and a ton of cap space…
Why not for Sac?…that might possibly be used to overpay a few middling veterans. Even though I’d assume Marbury gets bought out ASAP I still worry that even if he’s here only for a short while whatever cancerous infection he carries could spread.
Positives of bringing Starbury to Sac? He and Beno become BFFs. Beno gets matching Starbury tattoo on his head.

I like it

I think I’d be ok with throwing the Rox pick but defintely no Donte. I actually think that Miami should throw a second rounder because they are the ones giving less and arguably getting more.

I’m trying to come up to why any of the teams don’t do it and the only thing I can come up with is that because NY is waiting on ’10 they may not want to extend Marion so then they lost Lee for practically nothing.

I think the Kings also need to make sure that Lee will stay after this year and that they are willing to match any offer sheet in the offseason.

I'd do it

But I have a hard time believing New York will. (Mostly cuz of D-Lee.)

My feeling is that the piece(s) we need are going to come from a trade not a RFA.

But right now, with this team, anyway you look at cash (cap space) is king

I agree

I think GP is trying to bring someone in via trade – but its just a guess. We want our high pick, but we need to sell tickets too. Its a tough spot for a small market like us that just waited too long to reload/rebuild and have lost some fans.

That drifting around the issue we did for 2 + years is costing plenty now.

Miller/Salmons is too much

But, I agree Salmons should be moved. Miller, k9 and houston’s first rounder to Miami for Marion. Salmons, Shelden and BJax to Cleveland for Wally and JJ Hickson. By including k-9 and salmons in the deal, Sac can try and resign Marion, and gain even more cap flexibility a year early. I don’t think Miami is prepared for the miller-k9 deal or that would have been made so we need to sweeten the pot with a pick (i don’t think the draft is deep enough to over-value the pick). For the Cavs, you get a 3 for 2 deal going into the playoffs and two of the three expire after the season.

We end up with a front line of Shawes, JT, Marion, Hickson, Greene.

by longtimelistenerfirsttimecaller on Jan 26, 2009 1:10 PM PST reply actions

You may be right about Miami

I can’t say I’m crazy about your Cleveland deal. We’re giving up Salmons for Hickson to gain $4M in cap space. While Marion would be an upgrade over Salmons at the 3 and Hickson may be a serviceable backup at the 4, we’dstill need help at center, backup 2/3, & PG.

Resigning Marion is going to cost us a major portion of the salary cap we gain, leaving us 1 less draft pick & less then $10M to sign free agents. If Miami is really interested in Miller, I’d rather kept K9 and substitute Moore and keep the draft pick which could end up being in the upper teens. With the draft pick we could still get a backup PF in the same area of the draft as Hickson and not lose Salmons. We wouldn’t have as much cap space but we wouldn’t need cap space to resign Marion since we can go over the cap limit to resign our own players.

We end up with front line of Hawes, JT, Marion, Salmons, Greene, Houston’s pick, K9.

Greene has the size and has played some PF to go along with Marion & K9. Hawes & JT could play center. And, depending what PG’s come out for this draft, we could go PG then Big with our 1st round picks. Then fill the backup 2/3 with our 2nd rounder & undrafted FA’s.

I'd rather lose Salmons

And give Buckets the time instead. Maybe that’s just me.

Buckets needs time not just PT

I’ve been thinking about this since he went to Reno. He’s getting more PT there, but is he getting better?

The biggest defect in his game is defense. Now, at SF he’s up against some pretty talented scorers. Scorers with speed and athleticism. Maybe, he needs to get some PT out of position like JT did at the beginning of the season. With his height and weight, there are a lot of PF’s that Donte might match up with pretty well. The’re not as quick as SF’s and usually not that much bigger than Greene, so maybe he could practice his defense against PF’s. His offense would be about the same, so his rebounding would be the big question mark.
