Draft Watch Programming Alert: Pitt at Georgetown
It's almost halftime, but if you're as interested in potential draft prospects as you are the current incarnation of the Kings, Pitt at Georgetown on ESPN right now might be your speed. DeJuan Blair, Greg Monroe ... saliva forming quickly.

With the enormous caveat...
I haven’t seen Thabeet play, and I did watch a lot of Davidson games in the tournament last year, and if you did its hard to not like Stephen Curry…
I like Greg Monroe, and he certainly seems like a Petrie big, he seems to make good decisions and passes well.

One step further
Hawes seemed like a Petrie big — great shooter, good fundamental skills (passing, ball-handling), length without elite athleticism.
Monroe really is Petrie’s Weird Science creation. He’s a skinny Brad Miller who can rebound, which I suppose makes him Webber 2.0.
I love Curry, too. Also, James Harden is almost like a play-maker version of Martin. I don’t think Harden could ever play point in the NBA, so taking him would require Martin to become a three. But DAMN. Neither takes more than one or two “bad” shots a game.

It's tough to pick
But I think the KIngs targets are likely Monroe or Hardin if they’re the top 3 in the draft. So there are many groups of players whom you can lump these guys together with.

Let me amend my statement by saying this
I think there is so many of levels of categories for this draft, that by the time June whatever it is rolls around, I think we’re going to hear so many other things about this that & the other, that it’s going to be interesting to see how it all plays out. Truth be told, I’m hoping a guy or two proves to be a top 3 pick as clear cut as possible, sorta like Oden or Durant, but I’m not holding my breath.

too early to pick, but kind of in line with what you're saying (I think) is what guarantee do we have that GP
would pick the assumed common knowledge 3rd pick with the King’s 3rd pick unless he’s a clear standout. Usually the clear standouts are at the 1 or 2 spots. And lest we forget, Sheldon Williams was a 5th pick though he wouldn’t have been if GP was picking 5th.

PG or Big
As much as I like Harden, there is no way GP would take him with a top 3 (or 5) pick. He appears to be a 2/3 tweener at this point and would become a more versatile, more promising Salmons. As anyone who has watched the Kings this year knows, our 2/3 positions simply aernt a need for the Kings right now…I firmly believe that IF we score a top 3 pick, we’ll be looking at an athletic big with the likes of Blake or Monroe (Who I’m a HUGE fan of) or Senor Rubio…And this is no slight towards Harden. Ive seen him play twice in person this year and I’m making the trip to see him again tomorrow night in Berkekey, and Ive come across impressed each and everytime.

In your cup?
Have you been drinking this morning Mr. Ziller??
Calling Monroe a “Skinny Miller who can rebound” literally had me laughing out loud this morning. Monroe got outplayed today (As Miller does nearly every night) but aside from that there isnt much similarities. Although Monroe can shoot the 16-17 footer, he spends a hell of a lot of time in the post as well. I dont believe Miller has EVER played in the post, which over the past few years may or may not be due to the fact the Kings run a high post offence. (Even if we didnt, Miller still is WORTHLESS with his back to the hoop.)…Not only that, but Monroe is one of the MOST athletic bigs in the Big East this year, and Miller without a doubt is one the LEAST athletic bigs in the NBA…Aside from their height, these 2 players dont have much at all in common..In fact, if compared to anyone on the roster, Monroe seems like a more promising version of JT to be honest with you.

Agree.
From what I’ve seen Greg Monroe is a very good natural athlete. Certainly much more so than Miller or Hawes.
Monroe’s also very, very quick, and it seems as though he good hops, so for those reasons I think he’ll prove to be a better defender and rebounder than those two Sacramento bigs.
Yeah, he’ll need to get stronger, but dang, the kid is barely out of high school. He isn’t even gonna be 19 years old until next summer! By September he’ll have 15 more lbs. of muscle, and will have logged hundreds of minutes against opponents in the Big East and the NCAA Tournament.
He sure looks like he has The Right Stuff to be an NBA player to me.

NO on Thabeet
After watching the G’town V Uconn game last week I want nothing to do with Thabeet….He stayed clear of foul trouble the entire game and yet, only had 2 FG attempts in the ball game! 2 FG Attempts!!!! I have no idea how a 7’2 Center can dissapear like that in College, it was disgusting.

Exactly
I never knew why some sports writers were so high up on him. Sure, he has defense…but that’s effort. His size creates the blocks and boards. However, his Basketball IQ is about an F or D-.

Monroe is the second coming of Spencer Hawes
Differences: one is right handed, the other left handed.
Similarities: everything else.

And Hawes
was supposed to be the second coming of Miller. What is this, “Multiplicity?” Are we going to be drafting “Steve” next?

" A skinny Brad Miller who can rebound"
According to Draft Express profile Monroe is an awful rebounder. Appx. 5 per 40. Although I like the CWebb comparisons.
PS. I’m on this site a lot and need you’ll see my face when I figure it out. I’m a genuine kings fan.

Monroe
seemed to get pushed around a lot. I can see why his rebounding stats aren’t good, he needs a lot of strength building. You can also see the skills though; he’s certainly very talented.

He is like a skinnier version of Lamar Odom
I haven’t seen much of the guys, only a few clips here and there but I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen. I’m going to try catch up on my college hoops to get a better feel for these guys

Watch Pitt/Georgetown if you can
I’m catching up with this game on my DVR, but DeJuan Blair (all of 6’7") is positively working him.
Monroe: soft soft soft soft and soft.

I didn't realize...
We had a Big East scout on this message board. And a particularly eloquent one at that.

Monroe is a Freshman...
and he was giving up 50 pounds to Blair. Before declaring that he’s soft, you may want to give him a bit more time in the Big East and the weight room.

He's skinny
He can add more strength, but I don’t see how he’s going to suddenly transform himself into a beast.
People are engaging in some serious wishful thinking with Monroe. I wish he were more athletic, I wish he were stronger. Combine those skills with more strength and athleticism and voila: perfect big.
But he’s not strong and he’s not athletic. Strength can be improved. But he’s not going to grow hops.
We already have Spencer Hawes. We don’t need two.

No no No
Although Monroe got outplsyed today, he is a beat who Ive been closely watching all year. Ive caught 3 or 4 GTown games already this year and this is the first time Ive seen him play bad all year…PITT is the most physical team in the country, he’ll learn from playing against that squad. He will be a VERY hot commodity come March-
