Would it help?
Sac does not have a chance at a Championship this year or next year, and i'd much rather see a contender built instead of a 5-8th place playoff team. I would like to see the Kings move Miller for a dead contract. Would the Heat entertain the idea of trading Marion for a combination of Miller and Salmons, or Miller with Douby & Williams? (works on the trade machine, may need to add Magloire or Joel Anthony to make the rosters fit) Im not saying the Marion would bring a trophy to Sac, or that the trade would even get the Kings into the playoffs, but a rotation of... (After trading Miller and Salmons)
5- Hawes (Moore)
4) Marion (Thompson/Moore)
3) Garcia (/Thompson/Greene/Marion)
2) Martin (Jackson/Brown)
1) Udrih (Jackson/Brown)
Would require filling Salmons and Millers minutes with younger players.
We would also become players in Free Agency at the end of the year with 29,562,000 off the books, with Marion, Jackson, Brown, Douby and Williams contracts expiring. Resigning Marion and/or signing Boozer would be options to consider.
Lets say we make the Marion trade and are not able to resign him or any other significant 2009 Free Agent. We are then sitting on a large amount of spendable money (Moore and K9 also off the books) and a full year for GP to evaluate the talent of Hawes, Thompson, and Greene before having to decide on resigning them after the 2010 Season.
This would be building a team through the draft, and supplementing the 2010 roster with a high quality free agent. Again, hope for the best but plan for the worst... Without signing a big time 2010 Free agent we would still have a core of
Hawes, Thompson, Greene, Garcia, Martin, and Udrih who will have plenty of experience with each other.

I
would love Marion here, but I don’t think it would happen. But the thought of what Petrie will do gets me excited. Almost like you know your parents are buying you something really cool, you just don’t know what it is yet.
They've done studies, you know. 60% of the time it works, every time.
You don't give up Salmons just for an expiring
No way.
Also, BMiller will fetch more than just an expiring as well, how much – ? –
butmorethan an expiring.
"You keep on using that word
I do not think it mean what you think it means"
Not necessarily trading for just an expired contract
I totally agree that Miller and Salmons are both worth more then cap space. But in moving them for Marion it increases interest in the team, and the kings might even have a chance in resigning him or another Free Agent. I guess i was looking at it as trading Miller and Salmons for the cap space to go after Boozer, or signing Marion long term. With the Idea that the combination of Martin and either Marion or Boozer along with the cap space help attract someone in 2010.
K9 will still be here
His contract expires in 2010 bud.
I know a lot of people are high on trading Salmons
But I just don’t get that. It’s not like he’s overpaid or underperforming or old. Obviously he is not in Marion’s range, but he is not being paid like Marion. The only two positions we are really solid at right now are Speed, and Salmons. Salmons is a starting SF on most NBA teams with his current numbers. I either want a starting player back (which Marion would be, but for how long?) or a very good pick.

"not in Marion's range"?
Do you mean talent “range?” I don’t know how one should judge talent range, but I can tell you that Salmons’ numbers are better than Marion’s.
Marion plays with DWade,
Salmons has been the kings offensive focal point for most of the year. You ever hear that knock on players who throw up big stats on bad teams, well it applies to Salmons. IMO, on the same team, Marion would far outshine Salmons. He can shoot, rebound, and play D as well if not better than Salmons and isn’t far behind Salmons ability to penetrate. And clearly youre only looking at this year’s numbers and are taking ppg too heavily into account, their PERs are closer than youd think.

but salmons is too good and his contract is too reasonable
to trade just for expiring contracts with the hope of signing a star FA with the 5-7 mill you save by essentially cutting Salmons.

All depends on what numbers you look at and how you read them
Season:
Salmons: 19,3.6,3
Marion: 11.5,9,2
Career:
Salmons: 8,3,2
Marion: 18,10,2
I’m not saying that Salmons is an 8,3,2 guy. But I am saying that he is never going to give you 10 rebounds a game. I am also saying that Marion is a better player overall. But my point was that for the money, Salmons is a much better player than most NBA small forwards. So why look to trade him?
