Francisco Garcia Out Four Months

A forthcoming Kings press release states Francisco Garcia will miss four months after surgery to repair the fractured right wrist injured in a freak exercise ball explosion Friday. That estimate puts El Flaco back on the court around the All-Star Break in the middle of February.

UPDATE: Here's the Kings release. Two months in a cast before at least two months of rehab. The release does say Garcia will be out "a minimum of four months."

Wonderful

And I’m not even that surprised. Even when Francisco comes back, it will take him some time. Breaking your wrist means he might not even shoot the same. Guess that glut at SF isn’t so much of a problem now.

I've broken my wrist before

It will not rotate the same way depending on how it heals. I can still feel it to this day, and it was declared fully healed by the doctor (I was 17 at the time—I’m almost 30 now).

Injured my left wrist

Broke it two years in a row. Fully healed both times, but I can still tell a difference. Luckily, I’m right handed. But I think it is a good point pookey. Some people can fully recover with no long-lasting effects, but it is no guarantee.

But let’s also remember, Cisco probably had a little bit better medical treatment than you or I ever had.

Never forget: I am a complete idiot

Yeah but shooting a basketball is something that I think requires the full range of motion

My wrist fully healed and I’ve always had that range. As you say, you unfortunately have broken your wrist twice. (Sorry to hear that.) I too have broken my left wrist, but I’m glad I nevre shot a basketball with it. It would not be the same I can promise you that. As far as the medical treatment, I totally agree.

Sigh, all i know is this really sucks. Cisco being here for a full season was very essential. Now if the Kings are lucky, they might have a fully healthy Cisco at the All Star break AT THE EARLIEST.

The treatment he'll get will probabl allow a full recovery

I’ve broken both wrists a couple of times and mine are just fine

That's my hope vf

I knew I wasn’t the only one who had broken my wrist (I’m not THAT dumb), but I did break mine swinging off a basketball rim. LOL

Anyway, I agree that it will heal and be fine. What I don’t know (and nobody knows) is how Garcia reacts to such. It could affect his shooting motion. You don’t shoot a basketball for a living do you?

"...I did break mine swinging off a basketball rim"

Crazy, that’s exactly how I broke my forearm. Man, teenage boys are stupid.

Also, I’m as skeptical as you are that Garcia will be able to have anything close to his normal shooting touch this season. If his forearm fracture was bad enough to damage ligaments in his wrist (which it was), his range of motion of his arm and especially his hand and fingers is going to be pretty messed-up for a while.

THIS IS A SIGN

Of wisdom beyond your years!! If only Garcia had worked out the problem earlier, he would have stronger wrists today. Oh, the impatience of youth….

I'm seriously scared for him

His greatest strength and value was his excellent shooting stroke. If his wrist doesn’t heal 100% the same, and he has any hitch at all, it could seriously disturb his stroke. Poor guy, I bet he feels like shit right now.

Screw you Knicks! LBJ to the Kings!!!

Bums me out

I will miss him as will the Kings. The best we can hope for is that Mason plays well and becomes an all-star break trading chip to a contender..

I think we’ll be alright. This obviously means more Nocioni, more Casspi and Mason.

You are missing the fact...

Cisco is a primary ball-handler, back-up 2 guard, leader, and one of the best long range shooters, and clutch performer. It is not as simple as to say “we have other guys to play small forward”. He means more to the team than back-up ‘3’.

by Hilton on Oct 10, 2009 3:28 PM PDT reply actions

He didn't break his wrist.

He fractured his radius bone, one of the forearm bones. I am not surprised by the recovery time either. Ligament damage to the wrist will heal fine, it is better than broken wrist bone, his flexibility and shooting touch will return.

I am trying to imagine how it happened. I would guess he may have been sitting on the ball doing military press with a dumbbell, the ball popped, he crashed to the floor elbow first with the weight in his hand. Ouch. Or he could have been doing a wrist curl or bicep curl in the up position, pop, pain. I feel bad for Cisco, he didn’t deserve this.

by betweentheeyes on Oct 11, 2009 9:16 AM PDT up reply actions

No, did you kicked out of medical school?

The above posts make mention of a wrist break. The radius is the forearm bone. Just setting the facts straight. Any break is a bad break, but calcium deposits form on the injured area as a healing mechanism which can result in loss of flexibility and range of motion. Deposits to forearm will not adversely affect shooting touch as if it were to occur to the wrist area. Don’t need to be a doctor to reach that conclusion.

This could be a big lawsuit potentially.

1/2 the season is worth about 2.5 million. If he doesn’t heal right it could ruin his career.

I really thought that this was going to be a break out year for Cisco. He had a great off season,

Here’s to hpoing he has a full recovery.

by nothingbutnet on Oct 10, 2009 6:43 PM PDT reply actions

Thats right !! Sue the crap outta that baloon manufacturer!!

We already had a tough season coming up and now this!! I say Class Action Lawsuit !!

But seriously, really bad luck for Cisco.. I feel bad for him. This is NOT what he practiced and conditioned for all off season. I am pretty sure that no one feels worse about this than Cisco himself. He is such a competitor. To have to sit out half the season and frankly watch his team struggle, all the while knowing that you could make a difference if you hadn’t broken your Wrist is a freak accident… No, no one is as bummed as Cisco is right now… and he’ll be bummed until he can get back on the court after the AllStar break. Man, I feel bad for him…..

This news

is depressing. Francisco is one of my favorite players not for the numbers he put up, but for his hustle and defense. It’s players like him that the young guys need to emulate with his energy. The team has talent, but if they played their collective asses off that might count for a few wins in close games. Here’s hoping a rookie Hoss Brockman’s hustle is infectious and can help energize the Kings. Heal well Francisco!
