The last senence is the perfect conclusion
to this article. Kevin needs to be assertive, not passive, on the court and especially in clutch situations. That has to be true this year and next. Ultimately a leader presents himself, or else the team goes nowhere. Some teams have great mutual accountability, and there is potential among this group for that. But, today, Kevin Martin needs to grab the horns of that bull on the court.
Lower their expectations and rise to met them
It's all a smokescreen
Kevin knows his responsibilities. It’s obvious that the coaches and the other players look to him for leadership and expect him to take it on. And I think he is shouldering the responsibility — but he doesn’t need to shout it from every publication in the land.
To Kev, leadership is not just a title, it’s not about being the best baller on the floor. He knows there’s real responsibilities that come with the tag, about setting the tone through the entire team, about being a positive example to his young teammates, about bringing in wins and keeping spirits up when they lose.
He’s keenly aware that a whole team, a whole city, expects him to be the leader, the last thing he needs is for the media to be up in his grill about it too. Because this is new to him. Just because he’s expected to lead, doesn’t mean Kevin knows that he’s good at it.
So here’s him buying a little space, a little time and a little ease of mind for himself.
There's nothing to fear but everything.
Section214 nailed it.
It’s like your kid throwing a tantrum at the grocery store and acting like, “Who’s kid is that?”
