But ‘Reke on opposing point guards is going to be one of the biggest mismatches in the NBA this season.

I can’t wait for the season to start.

I don't view this list positively...

in fact, its not good news (assuming you accept the list at face value). We are a very young team and we only have one player on the list, and that player hasn’t played a minute of NBA basketball. I have always believed that we need at least one of the other youngsters (Hawes, JT, Greene, Casspi) to blossom into being an elite/top 25 player if we have any hope of vast improvement in the next couple of years. Notice how many of the “bad” teams have multiple names on the list, most notably the TWolves and Thunder. Not trying to be a downer, but I would be a lot happier if at least one of the other guys was on the list…. so is the list b.s? looked pretty good to me at first glance.

The list is fine

There’s only two guys i’d consider taking off to make room for JT or Hawes, and its those last two.

10) Evans
11) ROndo

15) Oden
16) Westbrook
17) Millsap
18) Horford

if only...

you are right, then we are fine… unfortunately, I don’t see it. Hawes ahead of Westbrook? Oden? Millsap? Horford? no way.

by longtimelistenerfirsttimecaller on Oct 14, 2009 4:17 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

Spencer might be top 30, but he is not a top 20 guy at this point. The bright side is that he has 4 years until turning 25. I think that we are going to see a lot of improvement to an already decent game.

by Kusian on Oct 14, 2009 4:26 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well,

I’m of the opinion that Hawes has a brighter future than Oden, Bynum or Biedrins. It might still take another 3-4 years to develop into the player I see, but I definitely see him getting to some all-star games during his prime. I mean the kid is only 21 this season. He’s got a LOT of room for growth and is already one of the most skilled post players in the league.

by Smills91 on Oct 14, 2009 4:34 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not to knock on Hawes or anything...

But I think Oden is the next Ewing. Look at the numbers he’d post when he was healthy. Given full playing time, I can see him as a 20ppg/12boards/2 or 3 blocks per game kinda guy. 9ppg, 7 boards and a block in 21 mins per game of an injury riddled season is nothing to gawk at.

by CloudyEyes on Oct 14, 2009 5:08 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Word. I see a nice career ahead of Oden.

It seems like he worked a lot more on his game this summer than Spence.

October 28th couldn't come soon enough.

Ok

Maybe on D..Ewing had a great mid range shot

Oden will crash on the anti-depressents

a good chance anyway. He’ll have an uneven career – or worse.

I'm a Kings fan trying to be objective about the list

I’d love to include Hawes and Thompson, but the numbers just don’t back up it. If Hawes starts the season like he did last year, he has a good shot to be Top 20 soon.

by oldenpolynice on Oct 14, 2009 4:38 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well if it was all about actual numbers...

How is Randolph, Evans, Griffin or even Oden on the original list? I mean Randolph did JACK CRAP number wise during his rookie season.

by Smills91 on Oct 14, 2009 4:40 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Randolph posted a bunch of crazy good numbers in his starts toward the end of last year. He’s been fairly consistent in his averages, given certain amounts of playing time.

by CloudyEyes on Oct 14, 2009 5:16 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

7.9ppg, 5.8 boards, 1.2 blocks in 18 mins of action isn’t bad at all.

by CloudyEyes on Oct 14, 2009 5:17 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm not so sure

I see more toughness and ferocity in JT, which this team desperately needs. But Spence is the more gifted shooter, and there is always room in this league for shooters.

If JT develops a left hand, the sky’s the limit. Without that, he could still be a nice complimentary piece for most teams. Spencer could become the next Brad Miller (in his prime, Brad was damn good) or the next Matt Bonner.

Shawes has more natural ability IMO

JT has more natural fitting in ability than Shawes. If you would like an analogy, and it’s a twisted one, JT is DC13, and Shawes is Bibbilicious.

I disagree Smills

Horford and Oden are better than Spencer, at least now. So is Millsap and Biedrins.

A testament to anyone's right to make a list,

and some people’s opportunity.

I appreciated Smills cleaning up the top ten, and seeing Rondo and Bynum dropped significantly. Dropping Bynum out of the list altogether might suggest the same bias that adding our favorite young big does, but I won’t argue. What I don’t get is leaving Marc Gasol out of anyone’s consideration for at least #21-25.

Some discouragement over Hawes, JT, et al not being on this list must be due to the severe drop-off in quality after #20 or so. We’d like to think our big kids are better than that. This is their year to prove it.

In the miserable tradition

of replying to one’s own comment, I have to add that I think one could do this list without rookies who have not played an NBA regular season minute. It loses credibility. Of course, that would take Havoc off the list.

I have no problem with that.

I feel that stats from their rookie year is a true gauge of talent and promise.

if that is the case - I don't think it is

Where is Mike Conley, Jr.? (John Stockton, Kevin Johnson, Steve Nash all had lousy first few years). Stats are often built on systems and opportunities. Not disagreeing with the list and don’t think MCJr should be on it, jes’ sayin’.

is this list just the top performers in preseason?

Because that would explain why Hawes was left off but Evans is included.

The Linked List

is not an official document. It’s not a sample of the NBA GMs or sportswriters. It’s just some dude’s list. Don’t get down on our guys for being left off of some random dude’s list.

Besides, a list that puts Rondo above Rose and J. Smith is de facto flawed anyhow.

I think 'Reke was one of three 20-year-olds.

Does anyone know if he is the youngest guy on the list? If so, that’s pretty awesome.

by twasserm on Oct 16, 2009 5:02 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

He is

Westbrook is a bit older, but not by a great deal. <a href="http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Blake-Griffin-1268/>Blake Griffin will turn 21 during the season, and so will Eric Gordon. Gordon & Westbrook both turn 21 in December. Griffin turns 21 in March, and Evans turns 21 just before the start of training camp next September. So yes, Evans is definitely one of the youngest players in the draft. (Ricky Rubio is by far the youngest.)
