Let's hope Mason's knee stays strong all season.
October 28th couldn't come soon enough.

Sigh
Westie’s really behind this Mason guy isn’t he?

I love me some Omri too
but I’d prefer Mason in the starting lineup as a SF more than Beno as SG.

I just wanna know what Noc did to get demoted
I’m not the guy’s biggest fan, but Noc is clearly our best/most seasoned 3 right now. It’s the preseason and the Lakers are without Gasol. It’d behoove us to go big.
Hell, start Shock at the 3 like we did for a couple games last season and put Brock or Hawes in at the 4 and the other at 5.
Screw Omri, Free Jon Brockman!

JT cannot stay in front of Ron Ron
Nope, Noce is the best choice there I think.

I think Westphal wants to be able to bring Noc in off the bench
for a few reasons:
1. His physical nature could lead to early foul trouble. JT also has problems with fouls. You don’t want both those guys saddled with early fouls.
2. His versatility allows him to play both the 3 and the 4, so depending on the situation, Westphal can bring him in where he feels he’s best suited.
3. Mason, by most accounts is the better defender, although Noc is the more physical one. Perhaps Westphal wants to utilize Mason’s better defense at the start of the game, and use Noc on the 2nd tier players where his defense will seem better than usual.

Love Casspi
But these are the kinds of games where it would make no sense to start Omri. Who do you want guarding Kobe or Artest? K-Mart? Omri? Beno? Maybe Tyreke, but what’s that going to do to his offense? We’ve got a couple of decent offensive matchups here, but our defensive matchups are not pretty. If Mason is healthy, this is the perfect type of game to play him significant minutes.

I agree
Starting Casspi in this game would probably just make him look bad.

great point
seems like it would have to be either mason or Noc on artest for it to even be a reasonable matchup

Noce on Artest seems to make the most sense to me as well
Artest too strong. (for most people) Casspi against the Warriors on Saturday though? Much better matchups at a number of spots. Gonna need some speed.

Ya Casspi and Brockman could play very well against the Warriors
Although Steph Curry/Monta Ellis v. Tyreke Evans/Kevin Martin is something I’m dying to see, although the Warriors will probably start Ellis and Morrow. Speaking of Morrow, that kid is a stud. I honestly think he could be the Warriors best player for the future. Dump Ellis for a quality big man, start Curry and Morrow in the backcourt. If the Warriors didn’t have such a crappy Front Office/Coach/Ownership that could be a really good and exciting team with the right moves. Kings v. Warriors games should be fun for the next couple years.
Tyreke will prove the difference maker in Kings v. Warriors backcourt matchups though. Since he can play actual defense.

Ellis' contract is a lot to dump
and there are some charactor questions there as well. I blame Nelson, I don’t think his players trust him.

Yeah, right this is the perfect situation to play Mason
Why, pitting this 6’5" guy against a team who’s average height is about 6’9" makes perfect sense!

What?
Mason gets the start, right after an injury, just because of a good practice session about 2 weeks ago?? Looks like Westphal is about as in love with Mason as Theus was with Lobster Claws.

Mason has been back at practice this week
And if he is outplaying Casspi and Greene, he deserves the start. I’d rather see one of the youngsters, but only if they prove themselves to be the better option by beating Mason out at practice.

We haven't had a chance to see Mason play in a Preseason game yet
and Westphal has seen all of these guys every day. So give him a break and lets see what happens tonight before we panic.

Evans defense against Kobe
I think that Mason may end up covering Kobe, but what I really want to see (and can unfortunately NOT) is Evan’s defense against Kobe…
That is going to be something to see. I would love it if Evans can give him fits, but then love to see most any L@ker frustrated.

Watch the video I fanshotted with Westphal
He says Evans will probably guard Fisher. That would probably mean Mason on Kobe and Martin on Artest. I don’t think I like that matchup though. I would put Evans on Artest, Mason on Kobe and Martin on Fisher. But I’m not an NBA coach.

Artest the beast
Martin would get his arse handed to him on Artest. That is waving red flag in front of a bull and not getting out of the way of the charge. Not sure Evans would be ready for that either… Noce could cover Artest. He may be physical enough… Maybe

Sounds weird but I would want
Reke to guard Kobe, but Kobe to dominate. Going against the best in this league will lit the fire under Reke to keep working hard and becoming the best he can be.
i wouldn’t mind if Kobe has his way tonight so that when they meet again on the regular season, Reke shows how much he has improved on the defensive end.
The future begins now...

I can see your point, but
I would not like to think that Evans, with the defensive abilities he has, can do at least a passible job now. He is green, but clearly talented. Watching him in that second game shut down guys was great.
I agree that some edumacation at the hands of Kobe would be instructive, but would like to at least see that happen on just a few plays AND have Evan do a better job than most.
Cause otherwise my concern may be that ,just maybe, he isn’t as good defensively as I think and as billed so far. Not too big of a concern cause Kobe is.. well Kobe.

Off point
but to keep it on on topic KCAL 9 is broadcating Mason’s start locally. Anybody know how to get a feed?

I have an idea
Let’s close Tyreke Evans twice using the Multiplicity effect, and that way we can have 5 of him vs the Lakers. Than, we can lose by 13 points instead of 15 points. Yippee.
