F*** these experts...especially Hollinger!

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/preview2009/news/story?page=Predictions0910-Kings

Look I know it isn't going to be pretty this season. But I don't think we're delusional to think we have something we can build on here with this roster and in Sacramento. What angers me is the way these "experts" talk about us --- it's straigh up elitist, with no mention of anything positive and then a kick while we're down by Hollinger about the arena issue --- I'm willing to be that idiot knows nothing about local politics or real estate. These are the same b****es who were swinging from our team's balls when we were on top --- and they will again.

Long Live the Kings!!!!

Meh..whats really there to say about us nationally?

We suck, and most of the analyst probably don’t watch enough (or any ) kings games to see any positives. They just see the box scores and make some jokes. Its not a surprise to me that the only analyst who gave a opinion worth any sort of discussion was David Thorpe, who does watch Kings games.

by king4life on Oct 21, 2009 11:07 AM PDT reply actions

king4life nailed it

Thorpe was the only one who made any sort of sense. I guess that’s why his analysis was at the bottom of the list. Reading the others is like trying to get unbiased political analysis from political party website.

Thank you David.

On the upside, perhaps the pundits will light a little fire under the players to prove them wrong!

Can't blame them

the team was the worst last season. The only thing the Kings can do is produce, and make them eat their words.

by Dub_TC on Oct 21, 2009 11:45 AM PDT reply actions

If they didn't spout back

what was common knowledge without doing any research, they wouldn’t be “experts”.

With apologies to David Thorpe and a small handful of other exceptions.

To be honest

I don’t have a problem with this.

We are the reigning worst team in the league and that won’t change until this team shows otherwise on the court. It’s not like being the worst team in the L gets you (or earns you) any respect from the national media. Who really cares about what these experts say anyway?

If they said we had a chance to make the playoffs, some here would believe that and get excited. I’d rather have very low expectations and have this team use that criticism as motivation to prove everyone wrong.

Of course I don’t agree that we’ll be the worst team in the league again (near the bottom is more accurate), but until the Kings play some real games and play some good basketball, all I have is the faith of hardcore fan.

The future begins now...

Did you read the comments?

Overall, I thought they were fair. They mentioned that Kings were last year’s worst team and did poorly in nearly every category. Unfortunate but true. To expect the team to be dramatically better is unrealistic, but they may be significantly better and I believe most, but not all of the comments state just that.

I read these comments: Jalen Rose predicts Tyreke Evans as RoY. Ford and Hollinger see brighter times IF Kevin Martin can remain healthy and recognize his talent. Thorpe calls for frontcourt improvement but is high on both JT and Spencer.
Tongue in cheek Stein finds the Kings making news about whether or not they will stay in town as winning won’t come much. Jon Barry plainly speaks to the lack of overall talent. Chris Sheridan brings up the improvement angle: Nocioni and Kenny Thomas – will they stay?

JA Adande and Jamelle Hill have quips that are mean spirited and contrite. For those two, I agree with you – Eff’em.

by betweentheeyes on Oct 21, 2009 1:04 PM PDT reply actions

yes

I read all the comments - and I know I’m super biased and go into a blind rage when people dog the kings. So this may come across as just a bitter fan of a losing team, but whatever I think I got a legit grip these guys suck at their jobs.

As experts, they should give a little more burn to their comments than the obvious and pedestrian ones they routinely give - and I read other team’s comments too. This isn’t just about the fact we suck and don’t get any love - most of the comments for good teams are pretty lame too.Being an NBA expert and saying that Tyreke Evans could be ROY, and that we’d be better if Kevin Martin plays a full season is a lot like a fitness expert saying you’d be less fat if you didn’t eat so much and exercised more. Thanks.

It's all true until proven wrong

I don’t know if the Kings will have the worst record in the NBA this year. But if they do, I am not going to be shocked, but only because I live in the real world.

The pre-season is not necessarily a crystal ball for the season, but the Kings are 1-4. The bench is deeper than last year, but with no major additions, and largely pinning our optimism on an unproven (albeit very promising) rookie, I just don’t have a cogent response to the negativism coming from the ESPN analysts.

They’ll be more fun to watch this year, I believe that. But if we draft lower than 5 in 2010, I will be stunned.

On one hand you're right Sims

On the other hand, you’re not exactly beating the streets to find out what ESPN had to say either. None of it was surprised, and it’s like any bad team. You just put in your standard mix of jumbled rhetoric, add the specifics, rinse, wash, repeat.

I don’t even read ESPN very often anymore unless it’s on True Hoop. There’s just nothing really that important there.

And never touch the ball offensively which is what he needs to have happen to be as effective as possible consistently?

LTTG

Favors is a shorter Hasheem Thabeet, but with way more basketball skills. You’ll love him. Very athletic as well, and the potential to be a good offensive option. Fantastic rebounder. He will definitely be the guy I’m watching this year, along with Wall, Davis, and Monroe.

The main Euro this year, Motiejunas, doesn’t excite me. Yes he could be the next Nowitzki, but Nowitzki isn’t what this team needs. The team needs a force.

The Kings in October 2008 is completely different than today.

So, if they aren’t paying much attention to the 2009-10 Kings (and why would they?), they would have no reason to think us much better.

But the Kings ARE better in a lot of ways. Adande and Jamelle clearly haven’t paid much attention to the change of direction and spirit on this team.

Just the fact that PW is a coach who the young players believe in is a fantastic advantage that this year’s squad has over lasts’. Also, JT’s soph season looks to be a breakout year. Add Tyreke and a healthy K-Mart and there is no way we finish last
Besides, Adande embarrasses himself regularly on Around the Horn and thusly…he sucks

Funny thing is

I got to the ESPN article from the fanshot and was stoked that we weren’t 15th on 2! ballots. Come here and you’re pissed it was only 2. Expectations I guess.

I’ll be happy if we aren’t worst in the league again this year, and I’m far from sure that we won’t be last again.

I want other teams to completely underestimate this team and not do their research. Let them focus all of their worry on other teams.

Come on into Sac thinking it is going to be easy peasy and then find out that there may be more going on than predicted.

This is why I dont really like the NBA

at the beginning of the year, there’s really only 2 or 3 teams picked to win it all. The NBA is so unbalanced. Does someone remember seeing the stat about the championship teams the last 25 years? Somthing like only 7 different teams had won a world championship the last quarter century. That’s pathetic.

The NBA is a superstar league

One player makes a huge difference and if a franchise is lucky enough to draft a superstar who is a difference maker on both ends of the court, they will win. Look at the MJ Bulls, Spurs, Lakers, Celtics and other teams with superstars. They tend to do well in the league. The teams that suck don’t have a true superstar or have a star that may only make a difference on the offensive side of the ball. The only team that I can think of right now who won without a true superstar was the 04 Pistons. They won by playing great defense and played well as a team. I wish there were more teams like those Pistons. I don’t like the pound the rock for 15 seconds and take a bad shot type of play that you see from many teams and players these days. To me, basketball is just a lot more fun to watch when there are five guys on the court playing together and unselfishly.
