Old age, injuries and a series of bad personnel moves sent the Sacramento Kings spiraling from the team with the NBA’s best record to the one with the worst during a seven-year slide....The only franchise in the past 35 seasons to go from best to worst faster than the Kings did was the post-Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls, who fell off in three years.

you have cut me to the quick, sir
ouch! another reason to question my sanity as I am a proud Kings fan.
The other part of this, which is going unsaid, is information on all of the rest of the teams whom are persistently stuck in mediocrity. The Clippers, for example, have NEVER been first. Further, it ignores the fastest worst to first I can think of, the Miami Heat (Champs of 2006, worst team 2007-08).
It is all “sticks and stones….etc” for the most part. But, losing does you make a bit numb, even as a fan. It is easy to imagine how it effects the players, making them numb (put paid handsomely for that callousing). And if you are Brad Miller, it makes you number (numb-er).

i’m pretty numb, too. i am also proud of myself for sticking with a team through a historic landslide. from the frequent contributors on this site, the people with seasons tickets, the out of towners who watch choppy illicit internet streams of every game, we must be some of the most loyal fans in all of sports
