Kings Player Rankings
It's early, and the sample size is admittedly small, but here's my take, subject to ongoing analysis (playing time per game in parentheses):
1. Martin 40 (really no other true 2 guard on the team without Cisco)
2. Thompson 34 (love the way he runs the court and picks up cheap garbage hustle buckets)
3. Casspi 30 (as pointed out, should start at SF)
4. Evans 30 (only a rookie, will get better, needs to learn to depend high post screens)
5. Hawes 28 (not a big fan, but he's all we got, so play him)
6. Nocioni 22 (tweener who is too slow for SF and too small for PF, but a gritty vet nonetheless)
7. Mason 18 (defense should earn him minutes behind both Casspi and Martin)
8. Udrih 10 (showcase him for a trade at midseason to someone stupid)
9. May 8 (hopefully he will get better)
10. Brockman 8 (he earned more minutes last night)
11. Rodriguez 8 (serviceable backup PG at best)
12. Greene 4 (Casspi's play makes him expendable)
13. Thomas (see No. 10)

I go
Martin 38 Evans 36 JT 36 Hawes 36 Casspi 30 Noc 28 May/Brockman 24 Rodriguez 12, With Casspi playing 10 minutes at the 2 and Noc 0 minutes at PF.
This rotation only has 2 guys that can handle and 3 that can’t shoot, but keeps us as big as possible.
Sergio's D last night was inexcuseable
but I’ll give it some more time.

I'm kinda on board with Udrih
because he’ll add a shooter and may be a better fit with the current group
Hmm...
I will get on board with Udrih as a backup SG when we can afix an remote control electric shock pad on him. That way every time he starts to drift away from and loses his defensive assignment PW can give him a jolt.
And yet...
Evans was a defensive liability as well against OKC. He couldn’t guard Westbrook and was constantly getting picked off his man.
The draft lottery has reinforced my belief that there are not enough bad words in the English language.

Reke's on the ball defense is exceptional
But his off the ball d is very poor. He’ll learn though. I hope.

Team wide issue
but Evan’s biggest mistake was on a drive by Durant…he was under the basket in perfect help position and then vacated it by following his man out even though he saw Durant coming. Rookie mistake.
May, had at least 2 help defense errors, one when he failed to show at all on a pick and actually got in the way and another when he just opted out of rotating that resulted in an open 3.
Evans and Casspi are both adjusting to all the screens. I am not worried about either of these 2 becoming solid defenders
Because of Tyreke's size the Kings have chosen to which on screens
so, it’s not his responsiblity to fight through them all the time. But, saying that, the Kings haven’t and still don’t defend the pick & roll well at all.
There was one play where Thomas screened and Hawes showed but the guy with the ball feed to Thomas going to the basket. But, Hawes was able to get back and block Thomas from behind. I don’t think Hawes got credit for the block, but it was the best pick & roll defense I’ve seen from the Kings in 2 years.

Noc & Mason's performance was pitiful
making the need to develop Greene that much more urgent. Being down after the 1st quarter, with JT in foul trouble and Noc unable to stay with Greene, Donte should have gotten more minutes at the 4 to defend Green. Brockman who I think of as Lil JT, for his game and energy, was no match for Green, and with Omri on Durant, Donte was the logical choice.
Not saying that he would have done any better, but he needs the work & PT, and a blowout is as good a time as any.

I say
Martin – 36
JT – 40
Hawes – 32
Evans – 36
Casspi – 30
Nocioni – 24
May – 12/18
Sergio/Udrih – 12
Brockman – 6/12
Greene – 6
