Open Game Thread - Kings At Hornets

Emeka_okafor-arton21122-240x2401_medium

Why is Emeka Okafor smiling? Because he saw how good Nenad Krstic looked against the Kings front line two nights ago.

5 PM (PDT) tip. I've heard that Chris Paul III is pretty good - we'll see.

Go Kings!

Okafor is smiling because Bill Simmons thought he was going to be the better player between himslef and Dwight Howard.

Kings in HD

Question…. Are the Kings games in high definition anywhere on Direct TV?

by KingsFanNoMatterWhat on Oct 30, 2009 4:49 PM PDT reply actions

Look at the On-Screen Guide

It will have the little HD icon next to the game if it is in HD. It doesn’t look like this one will be HD.

The Kings are televising all home games in HD, not road. The Hornets are televising locally, but I am not seeing a HD feed. FYI in years past, League Pass carries just one broadcast if both teams are televising, but this year I have noticed they are putting both feeds up. Not always, but frequently.

You're right

but Kevin should be hitting his shots. That’s the point of Mason starting. They should get plenty of points from Martin and Tyreke so having Mason in for defense makes sense. Omri’s just not there yet. I love the kid, and he belongs in this league, but he’s still learning.

I think it's more about balance at this point vf

What Omri does the bench desperately needs in order to be effective. That isn’t true of Mason.

Disagree.

Mason played fine defense, but that doesn’t mean Casspi doesn’t either. He’s very aggressive. I think he can fill that role and more, so I’d like to see him get more minutes and time to improve even more.

My theory is that he's going to rotate them each game

One game Beno plays, the next Segio

If one of them sucks it up too much though the other will see more playing time.

This is goign to keep happening until like 15 games into the season, then the one PW decides is better will start getting the real minutes every game.

Then my head explodes.

You guys need to get used to sucking the last 3 minutes of close games

If we’re lucky we’re going to have 50 games like this one this year and lose 35 of them.

Its part of being a ridiculously young team, a rookie point guard, no post up player with sure moves and no superstar.

Hopefully we’ll learn and get better and Kevin/Tyreke learn to get good shots over the course of the year. When decent teams put the screws to us late in games though, there’s going to be a lot of roguh moments.

They were more composed in the first half

but that’s how it goes at crunch time. Defenses tighten up, refs let a few go, you miss a few “bunnies” and suddenly it’s a lot harder to buy a bucket. Especially if your name is Kevin Martin.

I think too Tyreke

can attack the rim full speed and force the refs to call a foul. He had the angle on the drive and the defenders were below the semi-circle, so could not be an offensive charge.

What stood out to me

For an extended portion of the 3rd quarter, New Orleans couldn’t match the Kings energy – it was an interesting mix of athleticism, speed and hardnosed defense. It was a great glimpse of what this team could be down the road.

The execution on offense is really what killed them tonight – by all rights, they deserved to win that game, they just executed poorly on the offensive end at crucial times. And they missed a ton of chippies.

I agree with the consensus here – it was a great developmental game for the team. It will be interesting to see what they bring in San Antonio tomorrow night.

I think it's a combination of several things

Phil Jackson handles his role players differently. You have superstars like Kobe Bryant on the team, and when role players know their role and have the superstar around them, it makes for a good contrast. Third, the system does help anybody with a high basketball IQ. If you have natural hops or anything else like that, it just enhances what you bring.

We did similar things with Jimmy Jackson, Pollard,

Funderburke. So, I agree having the superstar types helps make the others more effective. Just look at Dhantay Jones. Much more viable in Denver than he was for us.

It's not hard to become a citizen

You read, write, and I assume, speak English at a very reasonably high basis.

I actually have an Aunt who lives here who is still an Austrian citizen so her son had a chance at becoming an Austrian citizen if he chose.

true, there was always

prejudice against the immigrants, but at least there was a time where if you could get to America you could stay.

You can make the argument that many people around the world would be better off staying where they're at

There’s too many problems in the US right now I think for immigrants to believe that the US is the best destination for them.

Talking about PF

I was impressed with some of JT;s moves today. Just being able to back down his defender was nice to see. Hehad a nice half hook too. Ball just wasn’t falling tonight

He has a decent half hook

But, I wasn’t impressed with what he did. He needs to A) finish better, and B) come up with another post move besides the hook. But, JT is definitely a work in progress.

He has improved from what we saw last year. They were posting him up a lot in the 4th. Looks like PW trusts him. Good assist number as well

I’m going to watch the game again (as soon as NBA.com decides it’s going to put it in the archives the assholes), and I’m going to watch JT specifically and see what kind of shots he missed.
