Donte Greene Should start

i know right now Mason is our Sf, and i really am pissed off about this, the dude shoots airballs, but his defense, and hustle is really whats so great about him.

Omri caspi is really good, he hustles, and shoots really well, but right now he shouldnt have the Sf role,

Donte Greene should start at Sf, he has height that will mismatch other Sf, he has a capable 3 point shot sometimes, but his type of game will develop to around the rim. and his explosive and hes defense has been getting better

so who do you thinks the kings should start at Sf?

Omri

Donte

Mason

Desmond Mason - Untied the balloon in Colorado, forged Obama's birth certificate, and ruined the careers of Omri Casspi and Tyreke Evans.

No offense otis

I have read this site for years, didn’t post my first post for a long time (after reading alot), don’t post frequently, and mostly just enjoy getting input about the NBA / the Kings. Last night, for the first time in a while, a comment struck me as absurd and I wrote a comment to disagree; then noticed that otis had already pretty much stated my point exactly. So I canceled the post. I’ve written and canceled quite a few posts, usually for a different reason. Here’s why:

Between otis’ response to Briggz and the replies to “Kevin Can’t Let Go” (which makes alot of sense to me), I’ve realized that the panic after game one isn’t the only thing on display way too early this year. The reason I don’t post much and many others may not (making this site weaker, I think), is the snobby attitude of some of the people on here who take it way too serious.

Sounds like Briggz likes Mason’s D, Casspi’s hustle, and Greene’s promise / potential. Mavbe Briggz is a dreamer. Give Greene a shot and he’ll be MIP this year. Unlikely, but it’s ok to hope for the best. Only one person responding actually answered the question this fellow Kings fan raised, no matter how old of a question it is. Who should start at SF. Hardly a foregone conclusion at this point. Still up for discussion. If Greene started and suceeded beyond everyone’s wildest dreams by the end of the year, all these experts would be telling everybody why Greene should start and anyone else is ridiculous. Kinda like the reaction to JT a couple years ago.

I like reading some of the ramblings with poor punctuation, capitalization, grammar, and thoughts. I totally skip some of the posts by longtime, holier-than-thou, legend-in-their-own-mind, desk-chair GMs who are not only all too ready to attack someone’s ideas, but their style as well. This isn’t an english class. Sure, it would be great if everyone here was a journalism major, but they’re not. Myself especially. But no one here is winning a pulitzer prize or a job at Sports Illustrated any time soon so just get over yourselves. Aren’t we in the age of texting, twitter, etc. (I don’t know much about any of that by the way) where things Lk abbreviated wrds & #s 4 wrds R accptd.

Also, the ideas about the team can go two ways (or more). Sometimes I can’t believe the thoughts some people have about what went wrong on the court, why, who should play, start, finish, get traded, get signed, coach, announce, etc. Whatever. I say, read stuff if you want to, don’t if you don’t, record great stuff, ignore what you consider wrong unless you can respond without attacking people’s innocent ideas and grammar.

It’s really less enjoyable, to me atleast, to read the attacks and bickering. The differing opinions, stat info (besides +/-), and pictues are great. Just stick to that.

Maybe I should cancel this post too. I’ll get called long winded and a crybaby with thin skin.

If these guys

Briggz, riseofthewest and straight knowledge (who by the way seeem the be the same person) really want to contribute to this community, where are they?? They post something on their first day and never post anything else. They don’t even come back and defend their post. They are welcome to, and someone will explain to them why no one agrees. They post, run something they did not research at all, and have no smart explanation to their opinion.

So Briggz wants to ask a question about who should start at 3. Why not read around first and see if this have been discussed before? Why is it necessary they use a fanpost to ask a simple question. I can tell you right now Mason is a bad shooter, Omri brings energy and Donte has potential. What did you learn from that? I’m sure you knew that already. What is he contributing to the conversation?

People here come out and defend this blog because if you let these to keep happening, the quality of the conversation goes down and those who are actually here a lot (count me as one) don’t appreciate that.

The future begins now...

Busybe

Glad you finally posted. Well thought out and made sense.

Considering this is a testosterone (sp?) laden, sports blog, about a team that was once great and now is flailing, I don’t think that the back and forth is near as bad as it could be. Nobody stands on a pedestal that I’ve seen. And if they do, someone is quick to knock them off.

The gripe, that I, and I think lots of others have, is the people who have not been lurking for years. They watch a game, search for a blog, and post without doing the slightest bit of reading to see if the topic has been covered, what the format for posting is, or even reading the basic rules. That ticks people off on all blogs—not just this one. Nearly every blog I belong to has some kind of sticky that says, “Take time to read what is here before firing off a new topic.” If you don’t show at least that much courtesy, you are serving your head up on a platter.

I can see your point

And sometimes we can be a bit harsh.

But there is no kind of justification for starting Greene at SF except “I like him”.

So it would have been better for him to post a comment in the thread of another post rather than create a whole post here.

Then he/she should come and defend the post

Sorry if my response offended you, but we’ve had a trend of these posts lately – people that throw out an ill-conceived, inane fanpost…and then refuse to participate in defending their nonsense.

Clearly Briggz didn’t care enough to hang around and discuss. He/she basically just came in and took a dump on the living room floor, then left abruptly.

If you are offended by what I posted (which was basically my way of saying “another one hit wonder”), then maybe it hit a bit too close to home. Maybe you are a long winded crybaby with thin skin. Honestly, I haven’t noticed that from you in the past, but I haven’t seen enough of your writing to know.

I’ll happily plead guilty to being an elitist snob here. And I don’t mind being considered the site jackass (you know, on pookey’s off days), if it helps shame/inspire newer posters to meet some basic site standards for participation.

And to the point of the fanpost, all he had to do on the subject line was add “in Reno” to the end and I would have agreed wholeheartedly.

Wow.

You’re either Donté Greene’s best friend or a complete idiot.

On what planet, exactly, has he earned a starting position? Planet Turnover? Planet Brick? Planet I-wave-a-towel-better-than-anyone?

He just got a contract extension, so obviously he has shown some promise and potential. But right now that’s not enough to start. It doesn’t even seem to be enough to play more than 5 minutes a game.

I love him as much as anyone, but saying he should start now is absurd. The SF depth chart right now goes like this:

1. Mason
2. Nocioni
3. Casspi
4. Greene

And if Cisco wasn’t injured, Donté would be 5th.

The draft lottery has reinforced my belief that there are not enough bad words in the English language.

i actually agree with greene starting

he doesn’t see much minutes in game. westphaul said he is much better defending and we need a defensive starting sf. his offensive skills are 100x better than mason. he needs to be on court to learn. even with last years team i didn’t understand why the veterans got so many minutes more than him and we gonna need the young kids to get us over the top. by the time the kids develops the veterans will be gone. many people say he has a ton of potential, why not at least get him in the game so he can prove he belongs there.

I think the depth chart right now should be:

1. Nocioni – best combination of experience, size, defense & offense. Still, trade him whenever we can get a backup 7 footer.
2. Casspi – good combo of size, offense & defense, and especially effort.
3. Mason – off the bench defensive spark plug at the 3 or 2. See comment above about trade for 7 footer.
4. Greene – possible ultimate combination of youth, size, defense?, offense?, ? C’mon Greene, excel please. Trade for 7 footer? Maybe. With the way Casspi’s performing so far it seems possible.

I thought Garcia deserved the starts this year (before he was injured) but I don’t know. He seems so much more like a great sixth man behind the 2 / 3. Besides, the team doesn’t seem big enough overall to start two slim guys at the 2 / 3.

When could a trade / signing happen for that backup 7 footer?

by busybe on Oct 31, 2009 2:08 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

as the year toils on, that question will be re-visited time and again
When could a trade / signing happen for that backup 7 footer?

There are not alot of choices, of course, and the cost, as always is the issue. Factoring in the financial cost – salary cap, long term salary considerations seem to take precendence over talent, IMO. I will repeat, there are not alot of choices.

The big gamble for this team, as I have mentioned previiously, is that of the 3 “big men” – capable of playing power forward and/or center – you have Sean May, Spencer Hawes and Jason Thompson. Two of the three, Hawes and May, have a poor health record. The third, JT, has a foul prone history and his minutes are limited. The risk for injury has to be expected. If one, or heaven forbid, two, of these 3 go down, big tough teams will eat the Kings alive.

On the flip side, Donté would get hs chance to play.

Greene

Should not start….lol really? he got benched in LVSL i mean come on a guy who never played in the US before took his starting spot. Because he has like 5 inches and isn’t a rookie means should should have at least kept the starting spot in summer league. Greene needs like 2 more years to develop, remember he is supposted to be a 3rd year in college right now. But if Donte wants minutes, he needs to play great Defense; obviously he’s not because he’s not getting off the bench

by shadowchicken on Oct 31, 2009 2:42 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

If we wanted his height to create mismatches

let’s just start him at PG. But otherwise, he’s not good enough to start.

I feel for the kid, I really do, but I doubt starting him is going to help his confidence or his game. What he needs is to stop thinking/worrying so much and just have fun playing.

In this regard, I think Westphal has him on too short a leash. Sometimes a carrot works better than a stick.

You also need to get real game time to show it.

9 Minutes in 2 games, it isn’t ease not to worry. There was no practical reason not to play all the reserves more minutes in the SA game. Even if Donte & Sergio showed nothing in practice, they still deserve garbage minutes. We are a young rebuilding team, and young players need experience.

And, I don’t want to go into the what IF senario, had Sergio been allowed to get into the game earlier.

What if we made Donte a 2?

Donte backup Kevin. All he has to do there is make shots and create mismatches. Maybe if he gets a couple of shots to go down, he’ll find his groove. At 6’10" he’ll be able to shoot over most 2s guarding him.

His defense… well, his length will be a problem for most 2s in the league, so just as long as he sticks to his man, it’ll be ok.

There's nothing to fear but everything.

Actually,

Truck Robinson said (in a pregame interview with season ticket holders) that the coaching staff envisioned Donté as a 2. Personally, I don’t see the perimeter game that you would like to see in a 2 guard, but given that the coaching staff is about 1,000,000 times smarter than me…

Your giving them too much credit,

They have played Omri at the 2, because of his defense. Donte can be more effective defending the 3 because of his length, then he would defending the 2 where his footspeed would be a detriment. And, the corner 3 would be an easier shot for Donte.

Also, I’d rather see Donte hitting the boards, and Omri getting back on defense to stop fastbreaks.
