4 game win streak
The previous time the Kings won four consecutive games was late in the 2007-08 season.

Just got back - great win against a GOOD team!

Did what they had to do to win it, out hustled, Out REBOUNDED (had to!) and as I thought, if they could do those things – outscored a ‘good’ team.

Last year they would obviously have lost this game and thats a big step.

Mental toughness, especially by Noce and beno who once again made key shots and key plays at KEY moments.

The kings had 18 turnovers and they still won by 9.

They have far exceeded my expectations so far. I loved the banked in shot by Tyreke and the pass off the back of the defender and bucket by Beno.

More thoughts about the game

I thought Spencer had a horrible shooting night but he still helped the team win with is D, rebounding, and screens. I mentioned that PW showed a lot of trust by havinghim out there and it just shows that he was doing what was asked by the coaching staff.

We can all cringe and complain everytime he misses a shot, but he also did a lot of stuff that he gets no credit for. A lot of those buckets Beno makes after turning the corner happen because of good screens set by Spence. He’s ben playing much better defense and Westphal sees that.

It’s all about knowing your role with this team and Spencer is doing a good job with that IMO

by edm7 on Nov 13, 2009 10:33 PM PST reply actions

Spencer also had 9 rebounds

7 of them were defensive. JT by counterpart grabbed 9 offensive boards (out of his 11 total).

Another point you could make

Of the 38 defensive rebounds, Spence grabbed 7, Udoka grabbed 6, Thomas grabbed 6, Nocioni grabbed 6 (I didn’t notice that honestly), Reke grabbed 6, WaBeno, Brockness and JT grabbed 2 apiece, and Casspi grabbed a d-board tonight.

That’s gang rebounding at it’s finest. But, tomorrow, people will see JT’s 27 & 11 and assume he was a big part of the defensive rebounding. Eh, wrong.

by pookeyguru on Nov 13, 2009 10:42 PM PST up reply actions

That's true

and this is when Spencer gets back to people hating on him but there’s nothing we can do. It’s all about effort right now and you gotta love that.

I still want to see us hold our own with bigger teams. I want to see how we play against clearly more talented teams. We’ve shown we can handle teams that are in our realm, but I want to see how we react to playing teams like Orlando, Blazers, Lakers, even Dallas. Those are the games when sometimes effort doesn’t get you too far. It’s important to learn from those teams too.

By the same token ed

I’m sure several of JT’s o-boards cost the Rockets defensive boards and it’s hard to discount that either. Jt is a brilliant o-boarder and PW has done everything he can to take advantage of it.

Of course

I’m actually one of those that hate when people point out that JT only gets a lot of boards because he keeps missing shots and is only good at tipping the ball in. I don’t consider that inflating his boards.

He’s just really good at fighting for the ball and that shouldn’t be inflating anything. To me that just means he;s that much better than everyone else at getting to the ball and reading where it is going. I think he earns every single stat on that box score

The Kings will have to rebound well, and because the pace is about even for both teams (Houston is 11th, Sacramento 12th), the Kings will have to make a large percentage of their open shots to win. Additionally, moving the ball will be critical, and rebounding from a poor practice yesterday as well may have to be in the cards for this young team. (If this were a veteran team, I wouldn’t be nearly as worried.) Houston offers all kind of matchup problems offensively and defensively, and it should be fun to see the type of matchup’s Paul Westphal and Rick Adelman attempt to will their teams to victory.

God I feel smart.

by pookeyguru on Nov 13, 2009 11:04 PM PST up reply actions

And yet you have something like this
The strength of the offense has been in shooting (6th in the league with an effective field goal percentage of .518) and in offensive rebounding (9th). The team doesn’t draw many fouls (23rd) and coughs up a bit too many turnovers (20th). The only weakness on defense for the Rockets is rebounding — as the Kings (or Jason Thompson, rather) continue to impress on the offensive glass, this should be a key item to watch. Luis Scola is by far the team’s best defensive rebounder. If Thompson can beat Scola to the ball, the Kings could have some opportunities for easy buckets against Houston, which is something that will rarely otherwise happen.

TZ FTW!

Can’t hardly believe what we saw. A great, great win. Thankfully we killed them in rebounding, which made up for our turnovers. One thing though…I was mildly concerned about our perimeter (3 pt. shooting) defense. I would think after Battier and Ariza started dropping 3’s we could have made a better effort to stay on them, but overall a great effort by our Sacto Kings.

but those are the things that I’m sure the coaching staff is looking for. In this case, it’s almost like an assist.

How many times do we see a player pass to Hawes, then receive the hand off and get a screen? I know Noce and Beno use these all the time. Those things count too

But we didn't expect Bibby or Peja to be the White Jesus

Some of us expect him to be a 20-10 guy like JT is proving to be. I think he’s more Mehmet Okur than we like. (6 pts one game, 20 pts another).

by elfboy_ on Nov 13, 2009 11:16 PM PST up reply actions

As long as he delivers what he's expected to deliver in the realm of his role, I'm good with him.

He showed tons of restraint tonight that he didn’t show all last season. He kicked the ball out when he knew he couldn’t take a good shot more than a few times tonight. Coach W has definitely limited Spence’s offensive roll which is a good thing for now. As he improves, I’m sure his roll will increase.

If he can block shots like he does and be Mehmet Okur, that’s not so bad in my opinion. He’s also WAY more mobile than Okur. I wish he was as automatic as Okur from the arc.

After the Warriors game, Westphal went up to Casspi (who missed a bunch of FTs in the game) and told him not to worry about them. He said that he trust him and that to show that, next time there’s a technical, Omi would take it. That’s why he took the technical the other day.

K-9 and May in Spence's head

Hawes claimed that K-9 and May kept telling him to keep his head in the game and make an impact even though his shot wasn’t falling. That, to me, seems to be what Hawes is starting to do better, and his biggest hurdle. He is still searching for his role.

could be out for awhile. Could be another winning streak on the horizen. Memphis, NY, NJ & NO with CP3. Could the Kings finish out November 9 & 7 or 10 & 6 or would you believe 11 & 5. I dare not mention the last possiblity for fear of jinxing them.
