If this deal never happens,
I still like the message that it sends to the fans and the team -
1 – We are looking to make this team better, and even larger contracts will be at least considered.
2 – Any position can be upgraded at any time, so as a player you better not grow too complacent.

I think that he is fair value
Perahps slightly overpaid when compared to other centers of his caliber. His contract would be crippling only if he were injured. Otherwise, you know that you are going to get consistent productivity, especially on the defensive end. That said, it does not kill the Kings if they do or do not make this deal.

It's not a good sign if the Kings are saying that it's too much money, period.
But if they are saying that it is too much money for Okafor and his specific skill set, that is reasonable, whether or not I agree with it.

It seems to me
that the reason is that its too much for Emeka Okafor. As soon as the offer was made the Maloofs were probably looking at his salary. The fact that it was even discussed, even if for a day, and that a source “leaked” it means that they probably considered it and just decided against it because they didn’t think he was worth it. I bet if NO had sweetened the deal with a pick or youngster they’d have gone for it

It’s too much money for Okafor. Yes his stats look good but his teams have never had any success. Now granted the Bobcats were/are horrible, but there is talent in N.O. He wasn’t a difference maker there. There is talent on the Kings as well. So that tells me he is no the kinda player that can take an already talented team over the hump. That’s why I wouldn’t do this deal.

I guess my question is…why is it Okafor’s fault (what is happening in New Orleans)? Why not trade Paul or West and see if things improve? On the flipside, why wouldn’t you trade Martin, Garcia, Hawes and Thompson? They were key ingredients of our 17 win team last season…

The Okafor issue will hang around this team until they say yay or nay and leak it. I always suspected they would sleep on it for a couple of days, and than see where people were at with it.
