"Paul is not a conventional coach and not a conventional person. A lot of things he does will have us all asking questions. You can't put him in a box. But in the end, he always has his reasons."

Nice quote by KJ
The thing that makes me laugh is that PW is doing a wise thing. Hawes needs to earn his C spot. He hasn’t quite yet. Therefore it makes sense that he would be coming off the bench. Is it better in the long term? No. The long term doesn’t matter if Hawes isn’t a reasonable solution to the C issue.
As far as Casspi, and this is a multiple level issue in of itself, I don’t think he’s a starter yet. He has to prove he is a starter yet, and so far has not. Maybe Desmond Mason isn’t having to go through the same process, but Mason hasn’t gotten more than 25 mins once so far in 3 games. He’s at best a situational player who is doing simply what PW asks of him.
The other problem with Casspi is that he hasn’t played that well (outside of shooting at a high clip against OKC). With Casspi, though, they need more than just quality shooting. They need quality decision making, ball handling, shooting from the outside to complement Evans and what not, and they need a guy who can finish around the basket as well. Casspi is not always doing those things. He’s a rookie; he’s got time. I don’t see anything inherently wrong with Casspi actually. What I don’t see is a rookie who should start, nor do I see a rookie who is outplaying his bench competition at the moment.
Maybe tonight will be a reversal in fortunes. Should be fun to watch given that the Grizzlies got their own issue’s at the moment.

Do you think Casspi's a bit like Cisco as a rookie?
He hustles and plays his ass off and brings a ton of energy. But the decision making isn’t always there and we end up seeing some bone headed play.

Cisco hasn't come close to shedding that particular tendency
You know in any given half, he’s going to come barrelling down the court and kick the ball out of bounds at some point. But with hustle, many things can be overlooked and forgiven.
Casspi is, I think, more mature as a basketball player than most rookies, but he played professionally, and even abroad, I think it makes a difference in the style of play once they get to the NBA. I’m over the moon about the pick.

Maybe a little
Cisco has a short fuse, and when he gets angry or frustrated he’s liable to do anything. Casspi is like a puppy, “throw me the ball, master, throw me the ball”. His biggest mistake seems to be losing his man on defense. So, I believe it’s more technic and will improve with coaching and experience.

I think Casspi has a higher Bball IQ honestly
But, Cisco as a rookie didn’t get a lot of mins early on in the season. Once Artest was traded for, it was pretty much a given that Cisco fit better with Artest and playing them together made more sense.
It’s not that I don’t like Casspi. It’s just that he hasn’t impressed me enough to believe he should get any more minutes than what he’s getting now. If he’s an All-Star, and he’s not, we’ll know. He’s a rookie 3 games in. Let’s breathe a little before we worry exactly what the totality of his upside is.
