"Coach gets on him sometimes when he takes bad shots, but he's doing a good job keeping his head up," Evans said. "Sometimes he puts his head down and gets frustrated. Coach tells him not to shoot, and I tell him to shoot. I'm the guy out there on the floor. He's a shooter, and he's going to make it or miss it. I'll ride with him."

You quote make Evans sound rebellious… Should you have included the context of his joking about it, see below?
Tyreke Evans joked that he has been encouraging Greene in the area that Westphal has discouraged him so.
I didn't read it as rebellious
I read it as being supportive. And I love it, cause that’s what you want out of your point guard.
Never forget: I am a complete idiot
I can see that...
Jokes tend to have a grain of truth anyway. I just wouldn’t want people to read that and think that we had some kind of a subversive locker room presence.
Advocating what the coach is discouraging
is not simple support – no need to whitewash this. I suppose it would depend on the tone and context, which we don’t know anything about.
At any rate, at least its out in the open – and not some behind-the-door mutiny.

Mustang does have a point.
My first thought was whether PW had a “the-hell-you-did” moment.
There can only be one Noce!
I see this quote as leadership.
Just another sign that Tyreke is a leader on the floor and is in tune with his teammates and the flow of the game.
33 Wins. Yeah, I said it.
That's the way I see it too
I haven’t detected any bad blood between the Kings and Westphal. In fact they seem to be embracing each other.

Tyreke Evans – rebel….. uh, no. Tyreke Evans – team leader, one of the guys…. absolutely

Well, if the finances get too bad
You just go with a player-coach.

and Lenny Wilkins, Dave DeBuschere not so much
ahhh, to harken back – but no use trying to live in a world without cell phones, microwave ovens and luggage without wheels – the player/coach in the NBA (would they have 4 other assistant player/coaches and they all go out on the court during timeouts before they huddle?) has gone the way of disco and the Nehru jacket (for all of you young pups look it up – uhhh, I had one, in peach polyester…. oh the shame…)
It may be a good option for the financially sturggling WNBA though.

I think we shouldn't read too much into this
Tyreke’s not a fantastic speaker. I love the guy and his game, but its true. He probably meant to imply that he tells him to shoot but more within the confines of their offensive system. Donte’s big problem, as well as everyone’s complaint about him, has been that he gets the ball and jacks up a three. This is probably what PW is discouraging him from doing. Instead he’s asked Donte to shoot good shots and its paid off. Donte’s playing his role. Westphal’s helped him come a long way and D’s game has improved big time. I’m sure PW is okay with Donte shooting 6-8 threes during a game if they are the right shots and if Donte’s hitting them. I know I am.

I respectfully disagree. I think he speaks fine.
Unfortunately, he seems so used to saying the same ol’ tired sports cliche’s for every interview. ‘Reke is thinking too much when it comes the ’mainstream’ media but he’s showed he has tons of personality when he’s relaxed and on the Donte Show. He’s 20 years old so I don’t expect him to come off like a savvy media veteran. I’m giving him a break for now.
Not only that…I’d rather have him speak with his skills on the court anyway. :P
33 Wins. Yeah, I said it.
Actually I agree with you
I meant his speaking isn’t great when it comes to the media. In an interview type of format he seems quiet and reserved and doesn’t always know what to say

I remember a few years ago,
Popovich said that Parker sometimes ignores him during matches as the offense starts and makes his own decision about what play he’ll call. And that made him respect him and trust him more. Of course Parker’s decisions most of the times had good results, but you get my point. I’m with Tyreke on this.
If Evans was demonstrating abject disobedience of PW - don't you think he would pull him? He has done so with everyone else.
Truly everyone on this roster has had a fairly short tether, particularly the young’uns. It brings up the point that Coach Westphal’s longer leash for Tyreke is a show of trust for this rookie.

When Tyreke Evans is your best player
You always show him more trust.
No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
