Kings Things I'm Thankful For

As I sit here watching the Thanksgiving Day Parade, I can't help but wish that it was dangerously windy in New York.  It always make the parade more interesting.

But I also can't help but reflect on how enjoyable the beginning of this season has been.  As I read the recap from last night's game, I couldn't help but to think of a few Kings things I'm thankful for.

Star-divide

  • The Kings are 6-8.  A lot of teams wouldn't celebrate a losing record, but after a 17-win season it's nice to have experienced 6 wins already this season.
  • Tyreke Evans.  As someone who was among the most vocal advocates for some kid named Rubio, I have become completely enamored with Tyreke and his game.  I really like what he brings to this team, I think he can become a star, and I he's a fun player to follow.
  • Sam Amick and Jason Jones.  It's truly something to be thankful for that there are two quality reporters giving us Kings news.
  • Donté Greene's rebirth.  As a guy who many had written off, it's really nice to see Donté making a positive impact in games.
  • Kevin Martin.  Even though he's injured, I feel thankful to be a Kings fan so I can understand just how good Martin is, even if casual fans of other teams don't fully understand.
  • Jason Thompson.  It's a lot of fun watching JT come into his own and becoming a true force down low.
  • Beno Udrih.  Yes, that's right.  I'm thankful for Beno Udrih, specifically how he's back to playing well and working on earning that contract.  We should all be thankful that his play has improved from last season.
  • Coach Westphal.  The guy deserves a lot of credit for some of the early changes we've seen.  Just how much credit is still unknown, but I'm thankful that we've got a coach who seems to have a clue what he's doing, and it getting the players to buy in and play hard.
  • Sactown Royalty.  I've said it before, but I am so very happy that this site and this community exist.  I'm thankful for guys like TZ and Section who keep things running, and I'm thankful for all of the folks that read and contribute.  The level of discussion here is so far above and beyond anything else out there, and it make me proud to be a part of it.  Much thanks to everyone who discusses, argues, debates, and jokes about our favorite team, the Sacramento Kings.  You're what makes a 17-win season tolerable, and what makes a 6-8 start feel so rewarding.

If I've forgotten anyone or anything, or there are other things about the Kings that you'd like to share you thanks for, let's open it up in the comments.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Kings things I'm thankful for
  • Thankful for having a real coaching staff. And not just Westphal, but the assistants as well. They’ve really changed the mentality of this team.
  • Scrappiness. These Kings don’t give up.
  • Our rookies. I love all 3 of our rooks.
  • The Kings Front office. Yes there have been rumors of trades already, but I’m glad they haven’t done anything rash yet. The chemistry is good right now and I think they shouldn’t mess with it until a good trade comes along. And offers will come.
  • Of course StR. You guys are all awesome. And thanks for liking my weekly updates, or at least pretending to. I do it for you guys.

Good stuff G

I agree there’s a lot to be thankful about with this team. Aside from injuries it’s tough to find something bad about the King that’ truly great, especially considering last year.

Happy thanksgivng all!! Eat good food and hopefully you all get to enjoy time with your families

Thanks for this and Happy Thanksgiving!

Great points all around. These jewels really spoke to me:

The Kings are 6-8. A lot of teams wouldn’t celebrate a losing record, but after a 17-win season it’s nice to have experienced 6 wins already this season.

I feel that this is a good team again despite the youth and inexperience. Seeing a team with a purpose and focus is such a great and rewarding feeling. The best thing is – we’re not even at our full potential and we’re already exciting and fun to watch.

On Tyreke:I really like what he brings to this team, I think he can become a star, and he’s a fun player to follow.

I’m so glad you see him in that light too. We build around him and the rest will follow.

If Donte keeps it up, consider the Kings ‘loaded’ with scoring talent at most positions.

Coach Westphal truly is the captain of this ship. No one wants to say “Coach of the Year” but as Kings fans, we totally see and feel the change he’s brought to our team and community.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, Exhibit, and the rest of the StR peeps.

33 Wins. Yeah, I said it.

There really is a huge difference between a bad team and a team with a losing record..

The Knicks are bad, so were we last year. We will have a losing record season but the improvement is palpable.

Great Post Man

I agree with you that this is the best place to get your opinion heard when it comes to Kings basketball. Everyone knows what they are talking about and they respect each other.

Only one correction

Tyreke Evans IS a star.

And, I would add that I’m thankful for the Maloof’s. For their efforts in the community, for their enthusiasm ( they were there cheering with us last night and every night ), and for the efforts to keep the KIngs in Sacramento. They really are some of the best owners in Professional sports.

Happy Thanksgiving and Holidays to all.

I have to agree

For all the crap the Maloofs have taken and massive amounts of financial loss they’ve experienced, they still take the time out to come to the games and have been sticking to their guns in keeping the Kings in Sacramento. I’m sure we could all be thankful for that one.

You all have listed much of what makes me thankful this time of the year. Rec's to all of you!

and two special rec’s- a big Reke Rec’d to Tyreke for leadin the charge on a new and brighter future for the Sacramento Kings

And a very big dessert Rec’d: It is Thanksgiving; there is pumpkin pie, pumpkin cheesecake, pecan pie, apple pie, berry pie, linzer tort, sweet poatoe pie, and holiday cookies on the tables of those fortunate of us to have traditional Thanksgiving with all the trimmings,
but this year, I passed on all that – I WANT PANCAKES!
thank you and damn you Jon Brockman

by betweentheeyes on Nov 26, 2009 4:08 PM PST reply actions

Not to nitpick...

…but wouldn’t this season be considered Donte’s BIRTH as an NBA player, rather than re-birth.

We need to trade Andres Nocioni PRONTO

by Smills91 on Nov 26, 2009 5:46 PM PST reply actions

I’m thankful that Jon Brockman was our second pick. That guy was a joy to watch last night. I’m also thankful that he was not at my thanksgiving table because I’m sure there would have been no leftovers for me to enjoy the rest of the week.

Disclaimer: comments may have been made under the influence of alcohol. If the Kings start winning, this will probably change.

Actually he would technically be our third pick Reke>Bombri>Mancakes..or do you mean our second round pick?
