Didn't get to see the game

Cause of work, but looks like Lieutenant Surge and Shock played well. Reke looks like he had an off game though, but it doesn’t matter. Our Point guards all put up good numbers.

I think Reke was off cuz Spencer wasn't in there

I know it was my theory that Spencer & Reke didn’t work well together as a tandem in terms of actual stats, but the threat of Spencer’s outside shooting was missed tonight. Hopefully Spence can come back against Indy.

Glad 'Reke hit that jumper to keep his confidence up.

I really hope ‘Reke is practicing Beno’s pop and stop at the free throw line. That shot is unstoppable and has bailed the Kings out many times.

I don't either

But the good thing is, I do see him eventually being a pretty good shooter, because his mechanics aren’t too bad, and he’s been putting in a lot of effort.

He's already had a break out game

Against Utah. And a few very solid ones too. He hasn’t had anything like Jennings 55, but I don’t think any rookie will do that again this year, not even Jennings.

but he;‘s only getting all this attention because of that game. Reke is putting similar numbers but hasn’t had a “55 point” type game yet

To be fair to Jennings

He is also getting a lot of attention because the Bucks are winning, with him leading the way.

I would still rather have Easy Reke though, and I’m confident he’ll end up winning RoY still. And if he doesn’t, and that motivates him to work even harder, all the better.

Take the picks out of the equation and I go with Psycho T.

As far who’s giving their team the most bang for the buck? The answer is indeed Brocktimus Prime.

Psycho T can score in more ways than Brocktimus with just as much hustle as well as a bigger frame (height wise). I trust that if Psycho T was a King, Coach Westphal would be getting just as much from Psycho T as he gets from Brocktimus Prime.

But don’t get it twisted, I’m more than pleased with who we have. I think Brocktimus will be having a chip on his shoulder when the Pacers come to town. He got 1/50th of the press that Psycho T got and put in just as much effort in his college career. It’s gonna be a battle.

Yeah he's found a way to incorporate all his tools consistently

He’s really making it difficult for the coaching staff to justify a spot for Ime Udoka on the roster beyond Kevin Martin’s return. Really really difficult. If that isn’t the best news this franchise has received in a long time, I don’t know what is.

That judgment might be based on

too small a sample size. He missed a few shots that he needed to make in a couple of games. But that’s certainly what Westphal is using to decide his lineups.

I think you can always find a spot for a good character guy who plays defense and hustles, particularly on a roster with plenty of guys who can score.

There is no reasonable way you can argue that Ime Udoka has more value to this roster as a player than Donte Greene

If you want to argue experience, or intangibles, or something else fine. But as talent goes, Udoka does not have all the skills Donte Greene has. Not Udoka’s fault; it wasn’t slamming him as a player.

The reality is that a veteran is a nice luxury for a young ballclub without Kevin Martin or Francisco Garcia. How important is Udoka once both Martin & Garcia return?

We're not talking about Donte Greene

We’re talking about the bottom of the roster. And things are moving quickly, because it wasn’t that long ago that Udoka was the first guy off the bench for a few games and Sergio was cannon fodder.

Things can change, guys can start playing better or worse or get hurt, so let’s see where we are a couple of weeks from now.

Maybe you’re think that’s the end of the surprises the Kings have in store for us and the future is crystal clear. But I sort of doubt it.

Not really

With how bad this team was last year and with all the new faces I’m fine with not having a rotation. Until we reach a point where we have 8 or 9 guys that we know are going to consistantly win us game this is the best thing to do; even if it costs us some wins. As long as every guy comes in and competes when their name is called this will only help the team in the long run. It will make it so we have a 12 man roster that can compete rather than an 8 man roster.

The Brockman line

Westphal has something nice going with that lineup where he puts Brockman with JT, Tyreke, Sergio and Casspi. A lot of hustle and skill.

Brockman came in tonight with the team up 1, left up 9. Came in up 8, left up 12, Came in up 8, left up 17 (that was in the stretch where they came back to 86-83). That’s a plus 21. I don’t know what the official stats show, but I like those kinda numbers.

I also like how the Kings responded when threatened. Last year and at the beginning of this year they would have folded and lost that came by 10. Instead, we outscored them 26-13 to close the game.

I think Brockman must have played volleyball somehwere down the line. This was the second straight game where he volleyballed a pass and we got a three out of it.

Would you trade for Okafur based on tonight's performance?

He was very effective, and tough in the paint. Jerry Reynolds did not hesitate to mention he is smaller than JT. I think the price tag is too high. If he had a low post game, he would be a beast. Ultimately, I think Geoff Petrie wants a guy with a more versatile and dynamic game for $50 million, or whatever he is owed. But his stat line was impressive:

20 PTS 9 REBSs 2 BLKs 0 ASST 9-10 FGs in 32 minutes

by bench_blob on Nov 29, 2009 9:26 PM PST reply actions

Yep. I've always commented about his lack of post game.

He did hit a few midrange jumpers tonight though, but JT could do that. Basically, getting Okafor would be getting another JT which isn’t a bad thing but I’d rather get someone who can rebound, block shots AND score on the low block like Pau, Big Al, or Kaman.

33 Wins. Yeah, I said it.

by JETisKing on Nov 29, 2009 9:30 PM PST up reply actions

To use a poker analogy

Trading for Okafur would be like going all in with a pair of 6s. It makes you better , but not a slam dunk upper echelon team.

On offense, he’s not a pick and roll player, and he’s not really a post player, so you would basically play 4 on 5 on offense. Tyreke gets enough attention already. He doesn’t need a big man hounding him too. And on defense Okafur camps out in the paint. Big guys who can shoot can step out on him.

He’s a great athlete, but I don’t want him. I am glad this looks like an internet rumor with no substance.

Yah but the price not that impressive

Considering he was matched up with JT most the night do to Hawes injury and the only thing he had on JT were the two blocks

JT-22-14-1 on 8-13 and 6-7 from the line

Emeka went to the line only 4 times and made just 2, also had 4 fouls compared to JT’s 2 ( i think the first time all year JT didn’t reach 4)

If Okafor wasn’t owed 53 million over the next 4 years (option year included), and was owed say, 35 million, the Kings couldn’t get him for Kenny Thomas straight up.

This is a team that appears to know how to close out games.

What about protecting the home floor? 7-2 at home.

Sergio was floating on a cloud. Brockman left a bunch of pancake skin on the hardwood.

Beno was money. Nice nice win

Seven guys averaging double figures

How many teams can say that?

Donte is just below at 9.6, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see Sergio get there the way he’s been playing and scoring the ball.

Wow, I figured the 7 guys wouldve included Donte

With so many players able to score, it’s easy to see us competing on every night. If one player (or even 2) is having an off night, there is a good chance somebody else will be able to step it up.

The only problem is figuring out how to spread the minutes around. And that’s a great problem to have.

Sergio..

Man who knew he could make the kinds of savvy decisions he has been showing. They cover all the passing lanes he scores, they close in on him cutting to the hoop he passes for a score… Basically drives the tempo up about a half dozen notches and the other team just can’t really get set up defensively when he pushes. NICE.

3.) I still like your team. Please knock off the Lakers soon.

Spanish Blazers fan here.

This is what I posted in Sep-25-09:

“I think getting rid of Sergio has been the biggest mistake by the Blazers in quite a few years. They were just afraid of Sergio disturbing the locker-room and going into Rudy´s head against Nate McMillan (Blazers coach).

I might be biased, because I´m Spanish. But I think I´m not.

I think Sergio will be your nicest surprise of the year by a large margin. Get ready to have fun."

Although I could be one of those broken clocks, being right twice a day ;)

Sorry aml

Donte & Omri are far & away my nicest surprise. Not even 25 point games for the rest of the year would be a nicer surprise than those two and the way they are playing right now.

On the other hand, I didn’t think Sergio would do much for the Kings at any point. Thrilled to see I’m wrong.

I like a lot Donte and Omri, and yes, they did fall under my radar.

Both have a bright future with the Kings.

I thought Sergio could be the nicest surprise because he went to Sacramento as the third string point guard. He´s improved enough to be much more than that and he brings a lot of fun. Sergio is only 23, two years older than both Donte and Omri, and he´s playing the most difficult position to learn in the NBA, at least when you want to be a real point guard.

by amlmart1 on Nov 30, 2009 6:51 AM PST up reply actions

That Sergio Rodriguez

for Jeff Pendergraph trade is looking real good right now. Of course, Pendergraph has been hurt. Getting Jon Brockman after trading down a few notches? Priceless.

I’m glad that thread is there for future reference. Here’s one of my comments since we’re going down memory lane:

Haha. Brockman is NICE!!! The kid has heart. He’s like a short Kevin Love. He can rebound and will punch you in the face. Jay doesn’t know…he doesn’t watch west coast b-ball. (by JETisKing on Jun 25, 2009 7:55 PM PDT)

But if you're curious on what I thought about Brockman on draft day here you go.

Draft Day:

(Yeah, maybe tomorrow I’ll wake up sober. But, umm, I didn’t understand why the Kings took Patrick Ewing Jr in the 2nd round, and with Brockman, I don’t understand this pick. Argh.)

Day After:

I think Brockman will likely get more time to begin with because he’s tough and can rebound. These are the things the Kings need, and likely Brockman will get minutes because he can hit a perimeter shot when he gets his chances. Plus, if he finishes at a high level inside, I think he’ll make it easier for Westphal to keep him on the court. He’s a lunch pail/hard hat type of guy.

But with Spanish chocolate and the guy thats only one spot back, i’m cool with it. Wonder how the blaze feel about it considering they were the ones that picked for us at 31(Pendergraf over Blair) and gave away sergio.(Blake is their version of last years Beno so far)

He’s got lottery talent—but Brockman may have a longer career if Blair doesn’t stay healthy. So far, so good. For his sake, I hope he has a long career.

Blair is also longer

DX Measurements. Blair has a 7’2 wingspan (and is 6’7 with shoes), and Brockman’s unknown. Brockman is 6’7, and I would suspect his wingspan isn’t more htan 6’9. That’s a major difference.

Yeah Blair is a far more advanced offensive player than Brockman is

Still, I don’t mind a guy like Brockman as opposed to Blair. With Blair you would always be worried about his future and how much long term viability he has. With Brockman he doesn’t provide the same upside or downside.

Besides, I don’t think Blair is the perfect 3rd rotation big anyway. But I’m thrilled to see he’s doing well in SA. That’s great for him & the Spurs.
