If the Kings had a choice
Between Durant and Bynum, you’d pick Durant? I love KD, but he’s just not the dominant player that Bynum is at this point. I’m not saying it’s not close. It is a close decision. And KD’s clutch ability factors in. But Bynum is a monster.

I respect your opinions
but to answer your question, I pick Durant 9 times out of 10
Godfather of the "nice ass" movement.... the future begins now...
Same.
If you took Bynum and put him in OKC and put Durant in LA, Bynum would be considered probably as good as Brook Lopez. Who doesn’t have a Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Ron Artest to take attention away from him. He’s a good player no doubt, but I think you could put a lot of young Centers in Bynum’s situation and with all the media coverage they get, proclaim them great.
Father of the "Natt this!" movement and Grandmaster of the "Never let AnotherStupidSN forget what a Sham-Wow is" Order.
That's a valid point
I respect your position. But I’m talking about if the Kings had the opportunity to take either player. Or, more appropriately, if you’re starting a new team from scratch. A dominant big man is more difficult to find than an all-star swingman. With the exception of LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, I can’t think of a small forward capable of taking his team to a championship.

6'6" SG/SF named M Jeffrey Jordan
and with McHale and Parish, I think that makes #33 from French Lick, IN. the SF.
and the former ABA monster Afro headed guy who dunked from the free throw line for the Philly 76ers.
and the 1975 GSW – you could argue that it was either the underhand free throw shooter turned Bay Area radio show host or the smooth (worm produced) fabric guy.
As for Bynum – his injuries are another concern. Durantula is a star now and getting better. But it is a good argument, not a one sided one.

Those are obviously great examples
I was thinking current players, but your point is well received. In that same vein, Bill Russell is the greatest champion of all-time. Just saying…

Kobe Bryant is a SG

You take Franchise dominance over a very good player
Durant case closed.

I'll rephrase this since this is a crappy way of explaining my position
Let’s say your the Wolves, and you need a franchise player. Bynum is many things, a very good player obviously, but a franchise level player he is not. He would not take the Wolves anywhere beyond maybe a 1st round exit as they are presently constituted.
Would Durant make the Wolves a playoff team? Maybe. Could he take the Wolves beyond the 1st round? Again, maybe. If you’re a team, you always take a franchise player for a variety of reason’s (mostly because they are so rare) but size is not always something you value in a franchise player. I mean, if you’re the Wolves and you know you can only get to the 2nd round (at best) with Durant, and maybe be a playoff team with Bynum, which is better? Maybe you don’t get that big player to complement Durant, but you can’t get that big player to complement Durant without Durant being there.
That’s why so many teams look for franchise players.

I respectfully disagree
Bynum has the ability to be a franchise player. If the Lakers believed differently, they likely would have traded him for Jason Kidd years ago. Also, Bynum gives you the opportunity to anchor a defense in a way that Durant cannot.

Ability maybe
Actual franchise player? No.

I completely agree (with someone)
As hard as it is to find a good big man – you take the franchise guy and that is Durant in my book – a game changer.
