So
in addition to Nocioni possibly starting at the 3, this is really telling of what the organization has thought of Mason’s performance thus far…
New Projected Depth Chart?
1 – Evans, Udrih, Rodriguez
2 – Martin, Udoka
3 – Nocioni, Casspi, Greene, Mason
4 – Thompson, Thomas, Brockman
5 – Hawes, May
IR – Garcia
Any chance both Udoka and Mason are around come February? I think not…

Yeah
I’m ok with this signing as long as Mason is waved. I think Udoka provides the same D, but with the bonus of shooting range.

I think
either:
Kevin is hurt more than we know
or
maybe they don’t want him playing 40+ minutes a night
and this has to be an indictment of Dé3.

I briefly thought about the Martin injury
But I can’t believe that they would have brought Udoka in, worked him out, and agreed on a contract in this short of a period. This had to have been on the burner for awhile.
Maybe Mason did not react well to the thought of being pulled from the starting lineup? This is indeed odd.

Perhaps the Kings wanted Udoka all along
But Portland didn’t cut him until the very end of preseason.

At one point Amick said on his Twitter that the Kings didn't want Udoka
Something changed, and maybe, as 214 speculates, that the Kings changed their mind on Mason.

I think they want people who can shoot.
and Udoka is not a bad defender by any means. He’s probably not as good at defense as Mason, but his shooting more than makes up for it.

He's not that good of a shooter Aykis
Well maybe he is. (I had to look up at my post to see Mason & Udoka’s stats.) Udoka shot nearly 39% from 3. So yeah, you’re definitely right there.
But with Noc, Casspi and what not, why Udoka? And, why not Udoka when they signed Mason? I mean, it’s not like Udoka had a guaranteed job when the Kings signed Mason.

He straight up needs a swingman IV, 24/7
Maybe he wants to run some wacky all swingman set? Something like a constant 5-man weave offense where the ball doesn’t touch the floor? Or is he stockpiling all available swingmen, knowing that playoff bound teams will eventually need a role-player, which Geoff can then say, “Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah, I’ve got all the average and slightly above average swingmen. What now? I’ll trade you (an ill-advised player looking to start over) for (generic swingman).”

fine with this. Udoka has always been a professional and he is credited with being a good practice guy… the only way our youth will improve is if they have to beat out guys NBA caliber players in PRACTICE! This helps… might be a bit of a waste of money but it helps (it also gives us another decent defender and guy who can help score a bucket or two from 3pt land on the wing)

The Kings didn't have a 2 guard to back up Kevin
Now they do. So this guy has to be happy knowing he may play 32 seconds in some games.

Not sure what all the negativity is about.
There’s nothing in this guy’s career that screams out sucktitiude in any way. The only reason why he isn’t on the Trailblazers or the Spurs is because they’re already loaded with talent at his position. Fifth year guys are usually still in their prime so it’s not like we’re getting damaged goods. I’ll wait a few more games before I critique this signing or join the mob-think for that matter.
This doesn’t blow my mind but it’s not disappointing either. I’m sure the reason’s will become known soon.

true, but they are playing better than us
and if we can surprise some teams and win a few i think that will definitely help out morale, keep the players on board with Westphal, and overall i think that will help the team get better over time.
also, Udoka has been on some of the teams in our conference, practiced with some really good players, and can definitely help the young guys scout better and learn how to play against certain players.

I disagree.
Any team with stud defenders like Ariza and Battier together on the floor has got to win some games on defense alone.
Maybe teams with 3 all-stars like the Spurs and Celtics could expose the Rockets easily but most teams just aren’t that well-equipped offensively.
Aaron Brooks hasn’t even peaked yet and Budinger is playing like a solid rookie. Nobody sucks on that squad and we all know Adelman truly knows how to make the most of his talent. I am not surprised at all.

chuck hayes averaged 10.8 ppg and 11.4 rpg in the D-League
i am pretty sure Houston is glad they have him.

Benson got 20% of his teams rebounds and blocked over 50% of his teams shots.

There has to be more planned that this and it just hasn’t happened. Mason is likely gone. They probably had to pick up Udoka before somebody else got him.
Probably a trade in the works as well…

If desmond is realeased
then I can’t see this not being a good move Ime is better at everything than Mason, except for jumping. He is a very good defender, and can shoot. If you watched the games when Mason was in the game, the spacing was terrible, especially on post ups, because Mason’s man would free roam and double anyone with the ball. This was especially noticable at the beginning of games whenever they try to post up Evans. The spacing has been so bad at the beggining of games, and thats probably the reason the Kings got off to bad starts. I wouldn’t be suprised with a DNP from Mason tonight

Ok, no one has time to read all of these posts so I may be repeating some stuff here.
I LOVE this signing.
Reasons:
1. Udoka can play defense, Mason can…well…maybe play D.
2. Udoka can play the 2. Martin sat for all of 20 something seconds in an overtime game because the Kings don’t have a back-up 2 not named Evans…the starting point guard.
3. Udoka can shoot from the perimeter which stretches the defense.
4. Udoka knows his role and will not cause problems. He spent last year playing for Pop so he understands defensive scheme’s and positioning.
5. Donté Greene can now go to Reno to work on his game.
6. Mason can retire.
7. It adds another viable player in case the Kings decide to deal the Noc.
Udoka was good enough to play minutes for the San Antonio Spurs last year. If the Kings were a playoff team, I would still love this signing because good teams have guys who know what they are supposed to do when they walk to the scorers table. For Udoka, he knows he is supposed to rebound and play defense. Over the last few seasons the Kings have neither rebounded or played defense well. How could you not like a perimeter defender and three point shooter to spell Kevin Martin for 10 minutes a game?
