I repeat
I hate this news. I hate it, hate it.
Hey Noc: You suck bro.
No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
Sort of makes you wish you had a coach with first-hand experience to advise him.
Wait, no it doesn’t.
Maybe this will make it easier to trade him to Milwaukee.

No, that was it, since there's no team in Saint Louis.

What I'm hoping is that this doesn't scare a team off

Yes
I’m sure teams will be beating down our door now!
I’ve never been a fan of the “Bad news? Time to trade him!” mentality. Let the fervor dissipate, and then trade when you can get a better deal.
Never forget: I am a complete idiot
Or trade when you know an appropriate deal is on the table that suits you
I think the Kings will try & trade Noc by the deadline. I’ve always thought that. I doubt this DUI changes anything.
Rashard Lewis got a DUI in the wintertime in Seattle 06-07 if I remember right. Next summer the Magic had him inked to that deal. Teams (and fans) could really care less. I think most teams (and fans) see DUI’s as more political posturing than driving safety.

Actually
Shard was arrested in Sept 2005. So, there’s that.

Good points
I like Noc and what he brings to the game. I think it is only a matter of time before he gets traded and hope that this doesn’t blow up too bad.
For what it's worth
This stuff always blows over with celebs. It ain’t right, but this is how it is. Fortunately, it looks like no one got hurt, but I hope Noc is at least required to get some counseling and do some community service.
And Noc, if you want me to chauffeur you around, I am very reasonable (using your salary as a guideline), and would enjoy being in an expensive car.

LOL sims
That’s awesome. I hope you get the job.

Most likely a two game suspension
But it should take the league a while to impose that.
Was Mello traded away after his dui? No. Was Jason Richardson traded? No. These things happen. NBA players are human too. They make mistakes. I’m not going to call for Noc’s head on this.
OK, jedi leroy,
Here’s the canvas –

Note to Kings PR folks:
Do not do another press conference like this. Just let this blow over and it’ll be forgotten relatively quickly. Have Noce give the requisite contrite (written) statement for the press and public, let him serve out his two game suspension and move on.
Sure, it’s a different scenario when it’s the coach who gets the DUI, so I can understand why they chose to do the whole show w/ EM three years ago.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a serious charge and Noce potentially put people’s lives at risk, but I don’t think we need to banish the guy. (Although my opinion on this may change if we later find out his BAC was a 0.5 or something like that.) I actually like Noce and was glad to see him in the starting line up.

and this was just Officer Goldbergstein trying to get Casspi into the starting lineup.
::crosses fingers that this isn’t too offensive::
"Sometimes the capriciousness of youth anesthetizes common sense." -Let Geoff's words guide our patience this season.
Here's what I find offensive
Noc is making 7.5 million dollars this season. There are multiple ways he could have handled his drinking situation. The easiest if he didn’t want to bother any friends was simply call a cab. Most of the guys who drive a cab in Sac are Indians (from India) who could give 2 shits about driving a professional basketball player. As long as they get their money, they could give 2 shits about who Noc is. I’m sure Noc got arrested downtown where there are 100 cabs all over it.
If Noc didn’t want to bother a friend or anyone else, there was no reason for him to drive. I’ve seen a lot of drunk drivers on the roads at 330 am, and they all swerve. They give cops, who could care less really, a chance to pull them over. There isn’t a cop who will ever let a DUI go now. It’s too much money into the cop budget, and they’re all savvy enough to know that. Plus, as I said, there’s always alternatives.
No mistakes in the tango, darling. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake, and get all tangled up, you just tango on.....
Maybe that's why you're still just an aspiring cab driver

Everyone thinks they can handle it at some point
I know I myself have driven multiple times when I was certainly at least a little over the limit. Even in retrospect I don’t believe I was a danger, but perhaps I like most people was fooling myself.
I may not have Noce bucks but I am also not penniless and can afford a cab if one would actually show up in this town (which ain’t easy).
He’ll pay a much bigger price than any of us would for his lapse in judgement (and bad luck).

Depends where you at
What you’re expecting to happen, and the timing of it. Catching a cab in Sacramento is VERY easy.

Bears, Beets, Battlestar Galactica
Because it does
We as a society accept it. People are arrest who have 7 or 8 DUI’s and their still out there driving. You have to Kill someone, before people start to get angry.
What really ironic is that the Kings just started that campaign where you get a Kings coin and flip to see who will be the designated driver.
"If you don't have anything good to say, LIE" - Mom
Hmmm, I haven't heard about that campaign
seems more fair than the “smallest guy drives” rule that my friends and I currently employ.

We as a society accept it?
No we don’t. The US is one of the most repressive countries in the planet when it comes to drinking. Some of the strictest underage drinking laws/DUI laws anywhere.
The reason why it seems like it happens too often is because learned behavior toward drinking here doesn’t stem from the family. This learned behavior usually stems from the clubs and your friends telling you to chug 12 beers on your first experience.
I concur
My family allowed wine at dinner from the time I was about 12…New years one dilluted drink. Took the mystery out of it. Didn’t like the wine and if you combined every drink I’ve had in my life Into one night I would still probably be sober.
Repressive?
Yeah, you get 10-20 DUIs and they’ll take your license.
The fact of the matter is that if you have enough money, it is virtually impossible to stop you from driving. Jail time almost never happens, and usually only when someone is killed by the idiot driving drunk.
And even then it’s involuntary manslaughter, 2-4 years. My opinion, your car is a loaded weapon, and if you step into it drunk, that is pre-meditated murder, even if you don’t know who your victim will be.
Rocks are free, and slingshots easily stolen.
Huh?
If you get 10 to 20 DUIs, that means you’d have 6 to 16 felonies, about 2 years in jail per offense and permanent loss of drivers license. You’re really overexagerating here, just to say the least. 3rd offense is 120 days to 1 year in jail. First offense is 4 months revocation of your license, 1 month for taking classes. Second is 1 year revocation…
…so, yeah, I have no idea where you guys are getting the idea that you can get a DUI 10 times or whatever.

Unfortunately I was arrested for dui 2 years ago. I had been in the sac county holding tank before for getting into a bar fight so I knew how bad it is to be in there. 50+ people in a 15′×15′ room with about 15 bums urinating on themselves. Anyways so I asked the booking officer if I can bail out. He told me there is no bail for dui & I spent 20 hours trying not to contract hep C. How does Nocioni get to bail out? He should have to endure what I & everyone else who commits this crime has to endure.
by allbenji's on Nov 5, 2009 3:04 PM PST via mobile reply actions
He spent the night.
And his bail was at 1400 dollars. I know its pocket change to him, but to guys like us thats a lot of money.
Father of the "Natt this!" movement and Grandmaster of the "Never let AnotherStupidSN forget what a Sham-Wow is" Order.
"spending the night"
was like 2 hours. Everyone else spends a good 20+ hours & $1400 is alot to me but believe me if someone had an actual picture of hell it would be the sac county holding tank & it’s always “suspicion” of dui until you are proven guilty. All that being said those 20 hours were enough to make me never want to do it again that’s why I think he should have stayed like everyone else has to. It’s not just a cell its a room with about 50 drunk smelly people, heroin attics detoxing & bums with their shoes off right in your face. Next to hurting or God forbid killing someone or yourself it’s a pretty strong deterent.

Difference
I don’t want to assume, so I will ask (if you’re willing to share): was yours a DUI or Suspicion of DUI? I don’t know the legal differences, but I notice Noc’s is being called suspicion of DUI.
Never forget: I am a complete idiot

WTF?!
After a long, slow summer of no news, I was glad to have actual meaningful stuff to talk about. I did not want to be reading about DUI arrests. hairline fractures, and freak exploding exercise ball accidents. Seriously WTF?
Yeah, that's pretty crazy
…considering he’s in San Fran and all, where possession in the lowest priority list for the SFPD.
nm, disregard that.
just found he was in Washington at the time
Yeah outside Portland
Even though the article on ESPN said “Seattle”. I love news outlets.
